Remarkable
It doesn’t surprise me who penned that column either. Here’s my favorite line:
He plays a position at which players frankly age well.
How they have such a good team must frustrate the crap out of smarter teams. I’d be looking to make as many trades with them as I can and fleece the hell out of them.
Think; It's not illegal yet.
A piece in the NY Times
kind of summarizes the handful of thorough blog posts criticizing the deal and ends with this paragraph, which I feel is a good rebuttal to the above quote.
Shortly after the deal was announced, Philadelphia’s general manager, Ruben Amaro Jr., said Howard "kind of set the market for himself." When a general manager admits he has let players set their own market, it may be time to get into the market for a new general manager.
"I'm gonna throw the nastiest curveball I have ever thrown...if he hits it, I'll tip my cap, but if not we're going to the Series."
--Adam Wainwright on the final pitch of the 2006 NLCS
