did you read that article on the right about st louis tv coverage?
this from it:
The Post-Dispatch says that the reason some fans are suspicious is because the introduction of Mark McGwire on opening day wasn’t shown either and some think they didn’t want to televise any booing. (Mee also dismisses that notion as off-base.)
"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."
eh
I’m annoyed the production values dropped like a stone. see spants’ well-documented complaint about color contrasts.
the centerfield camera that I love so much is atrocious.
the time-delay of a live game is not quick enough to correct any on-the-spot directing choices. as I’ve said before, it’s notoriously hard to figure the Chevy traffic jam. something like Pujols running is a split-second decision, and it’s not a standard shot sequence out of six or more cameras to choose from. esp. on a ball which may or may not have gone out — you follow the ball. CDGAF about conspiracy. the work of the field crew is starting to grate, though.
Lick that shoulder—you're in the doghouse now.

and it's outright making me dizzy at times
cameras are moving which should not be moving. cameras which should be following are not following properly. it’s like a frickin’ Batman villain scene.

Is my tv schedule messing with me?
Is the game actually on FSMW, and not blacked out by Fox? It’s gonna be a good day.

This is the same guy that, a few weeks ago, knocked on my door and told me I was “Walking too loudly at night.”

I am still unclear on how I was walking any differently than any other human
I asked if he meant the creaky floor, and he said no, I was walking too loud.

history help
Reds’ announcers claimed there was a lot of friction (amongst the other players) last year about how much time Colby (the rookie) was getting to play. And that is part of why Colby slumped and had stomach problems.
In short, my question is, who was bitching? I don’t remember this phenomenon.

according to his career
and the fact that he was coming back from an injury
"Moneyball: It's kind of like communism."
he was really, really bad in Boston
and he wasn’t injured. He didn’t just become healthy in the National League. There’s a stark contrast to his numbers. Horrible in Boston. Pretty damn good in SF.
actually, his peripherals are pretty similar
he just got different results
he was unlucky in boston and he was lucky in SF
"Moneyball: It's kind of like communism."
well, i disagree with you
it’s not documented at all. i can agree that he was a lot more unlucky in Boston.
we had months of offseason to reach this conclusion
and you want to talk about it now?
look at the numbers. he’s been a consistent mid-3 FIP guy his whole career. he gets hurt, he comes back, and he put up mid-4s in boston and low-4s in SF
it’s not a hard conclusion to draw
"Moneyball: It's kind of like communism."
coming back from an injury
does not equal “injured.” he wasn’t injured. not that this matters that much. apparently, you wanted to talk about it, too, or you wouldn’t be responding.
maybe "injured"
isn’t the right word
he wasn’t full healthy, though

i've seen many of good throws from Ankiel
i’ve seen off line throws from Ankiel. But I haven’t seen a good throw from Colby to third or home yet.
I feel like half the throws Colby makes are fine
But the other half, for some reason, are way offline or bounce twice before second base or something.
any throw he tries to put a little extra on
seems doomed to hitting the ground six feet in front of him. this must have been his first attempt to correct that.
well....
don’t forget lack of outfield communication, and poor jumps/reads on attempted stolen bases. I like Colby a lot but it’s not like he doesn’t have things to improve on.

no i think he was going for
every throw doesn’t have to be a prefect strike in order to be effective. Oddly enough the best throw i’ve seen from the Cardinals outfield this year has been the one from John Jay.

grrrr, even Horton
Colby did NOT strike out last night with runners at 2nd and 3rd.
He was CALLED out on strikes; there is a difference
what are you getting at?
What’s the difference being called out on strikes vs. swinging and missing?
Well if there isn't a difference, then why distinguish between them?
You can read it in any tone you like.
you don't leave the bat on your shoulder with runners aboard
don’t give the ump the chance to ring you. also in that situation no DP was in order. you GOT to swing anything close
He still struck out
Striking out swinging or being called out on strikes are both ways of striking out.
ok
when I was talking about there not being a difference, I was talking about as far as results. There is no difference between striking out with a runner on third and less than two outs than being called out of strikes. There runner is still not given a chance to score.
But I do see what you are saying. Colby should have swung at the pitch instead of Beltraning it.
thank goodness he didn't call that a strike.

I like this walking business.
In football, the object is for the quarterback, otherwise known as the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his recievers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use the shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.

Isn’t it Boston’s decision (from a list previously agreed to)?
by ArkansasTravs on May 1, 2010 4:22 PM EDT up reply actions
no.
We traded Lugo away for a PTBNL. We gave Boston duncan for him last year. I don’t know what the deadline is but the longer we can wait the better. Because we get a larger sample size of the players in the pool, and if we have an injury we may be able to fill a need.
or it could be cash, right?
"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."
Cash may well be something worth taking.
I can’t imagine Baltimore putting anyone of actual value on the PTBNL list, and anything to ease the burden of the contracts we’ll have on the books is okay in my books.
Of course, if there is a need that can be filled, do it, but…I don’t want to see them take a useless spare part just to take something, either.
or we can let them keep the cash if they take stav

by Willie McGee's Twin on May 1, 2010 4:31 PM EDT up reply actions
because he did finish with 2 Ks
I would have sent him back out with a short leash. Still in the 80s in the pitch count. I would have left him there until a runner got into scoring position.Iit wasn’t one of those moves that I am going to really complain about because I can understand both arguments for leaving him in or taking him out.
But what do I know, I’m just a guy in his mom’s basement.
yeah, I would have been fine with him sending him back out there
but if tlr thought the confidence thing was important, then pull him so a bad inning can’t happen and he’s assured of going out on a good note.

I'm just glad he didn't
do a headfirst slide into home, dislocating a shoulder, or jamming an wrist.

DFA Carp and Wainright, obviously.
Pitching like #4 and 5 guys.
i wouldn't go so far as to DFA them
but they need to assume their rightful places at 4 and 5. besides, this makes us look even more awesome when joe morgan says: “the staff is so good that waino and carp are their 4 and 5”

"We were men - flesh and blood - and we played baseball in the sunshine. We hit doubles off the wall, slid hard into second base. We had fights, and we made love. We sang songs and prayed on Sundays. . . . We felt pain. And we felt joy. There was a lot wrong with the world. But we weren't sad, man. We had the times of our lives." Buck O'Neil, from "The Soul of Baseball: A Road Trip Through Buck O'Neil's America."
