Just curious to see if new posts come up all effed up like the rest of the site at the moment. Nothing to see here, folks.
Got an email in to site support; haven't heard back yet. Hopefully this doesn't take long.
Since the other thread is now unusable, if everybody just wants to use this one to continue discussions and the like, I'll just leave it up.

Do you know if, in the Yahoo league,
only people on the bench don’t count towards your stats?
Does an CI count also, along with the starters?
yeah
this confused me for a while, but I actually emailed someone with yahoo and it’s true, only the bench and the dl’d players don’t count for stats (which is kinda crazy imo)

So I have Ta-share-uh as my first baseman
and Kendry Morales as my CI. I’m trying to decide if it’s worth it to trade Morales for a pitcher.
Someone offered Greinke and Delgado (their players) for Morales and Penny (mine).
My best pitcher is Wandy Rodriguez right now, so would this be a good trade?
I think so

Aha, so Cubs nation = Alfonso Soriano?
In football, the object is for the quarterback, otherwise known as the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his recievers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use the shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.
In baseball the object is to go home! And to be safe! "I hope I'll be safe at home!"

If anyone's interested, I think I figured something out about the other thread
Every time someone left an italics or bold or strikethrough tag open, the page changed the tag from (for example)
<b>
to
<b />
automatically. They probably have this feature in for people who post images using the <img> tag without closing it. You don’t have to close an img tag for it to work, but it’s good coding practice to do so, usually by doing this:
<img blah blah blah />
It’s some sort of auto-fix to close tags that don’t get closed, but instead of closing it with a separate tag, it closes within the original tag. It should be an easy fix for SBN’s programmers (I would imagine).

i ended up getting bombed with a cubs fan in a zambrano jersey yesterday
my internet was f’ing up and i didn’t want to take the chance of missing the game via mlb.tv so i went to a bar. i had on a red cards t-shirt. just before first pitch a reds fan in votto jersey and cincy cap sits next to me. we chatted through the whole game – he was a huge fan but also a cool guy and we got along fine. about the 7th inning a brewers fan takes a seat next to the reds fan – team cap but no jersey. instead he’s got one of those douchey t-shirts. he’s an obnoxious guy, f’ing the cards and reds constantly and then says to reds guy and i – “eat it, mothers!” and pulls up his douchey tee sleeve to reveal a tattoo: filling a brewer blue circle almost the size of a softball is “08”. reds guy and i are confused – 08? then it dawns on me. “because you guys made the playoffs?” i ask. “yeah, motherf’ers!” he shouts, “brewers!”
well, reds guy and i ignore him best we can when, lo and behold, cubs guy enters in time for the start of his game. had the jersey and cap. he’s standing behind us taking in the game. when things started falling apart for the cubbies and big z, brewers guy starts getting loud, mocking the cubs and really enjoying himself. cubs guy is peeved but doesn’t say anything until brewers guy turns toward him and shows that tattoo with a loud, “cubs suck!”. cubs guy thinks that “08” refers to getting swept by dodgers, i find out later, because, well, it makes just as much sense. words are exchanged and brewers guy ends up on the deck with a bloody lip.
three or four guys at the bar grab cubs guy, just to calm him down, i think, but cubs guy is pissed and having none of it. the guys end up wrestling him to the ground. so there’s a cubs guy and brewers guy down with reds guy and i just sitting there. inexplicably, though, reds guy and i get up at same time and start pulling the dudes off cubs guy. to make a long story short, once peace was restored cubs and reds guys and i leave and wind up drinking together at another bar, watch the rest of the cubs game. no idea what became of brewers guy. and no, an astros and pirates fan didn’t show up at the other bar. still, the nl central is a crazy division.

the cubs guy was pretty fatalistic, or realistic. he’ll always be a cubs fan, of course, but figures they have to wait about another decade before having a chance again – he actually said, “but a decade doesn’t seem long in comparison to a century” – he thinks this for two reasons: pujols’ greatness and soriano’s contract/non-greatness.
"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."
it was nice when that was the majority of cubs fans
i mean, it’s sad, because for a long stretch the cubs were pretty competitive with the cards, and it was a nice rivalry on the field.
i don’t know, obviously I’m biased — I just don’t buy the whole “every park has these people, they’re just the vocal minority” thing. it smacks of making excuses for whatever sparked the rep in the first place.

In PT school
been in several similar situations. Best bet would be to check with the people you will be working with, if you have a contact person, on people who have come in in a similar situation to yours. You can always just look for month to month lease furnished apartments, but in Seattle that would probably run you double your 8.55 an hour just for the place. As far as making a trip or taking the plunge blind, I’ve never had to do that. I’ve been on 4 clinical rotations where I had to find housing and found something in every location.
There is a relatively new chain of hotels that rents on a weekly basis, I’m thinking in the $200 range, but I cant think of their name. You can also do a search for “extended stay america” and see what comes up. I’m pretty sure theres an extended stay database, but I can’t do the searches for you because the place I am currently staying has crappy internet service and I have to leave my browser open with VEB loaded already if I want to have any chance to get on here at all at night.
When I get in to work in the morning I will do some more searching for you and see what I come up with. Again, there shouldn’t be any reason why you would have to drive to the city just to find a place, unless you want to see where you could potentially stay for yourself.

You might try holing up at a youth hostel, if there are any in Seattle

I would unquestionably make coffee and clean off doorknobs on an unpaid internship over the summer so long as the company gave me a glowing report to put on my resume. That’s what it’s all about anyway.
Not afraid to nitpick
The problem with cracking down
is that it will remove a lot of great opportunities for networking. I pretty much landed my current job thanks to working last spring and summer for our city’s Chamber of Commerce eight hours a day, 40 hours a week.

they have potentially the best pitching in that division, and 3 centre-fielders in the OF. Their run prevention should be amazing. Just that their offense sucks.
I’d still give them, say, a 5-10% shot at the division, with the other three teams all being somewhere in the 20-35% range.

giants.
if i keep picking them every year, i’m bound to be right eventually. either way, ponder this.
rotation is stacked. lincecum and cain need no mention. sanchez is steadily improving every year and is a hell of a number 3 starter. if zito can duplicate ‘09 he is well above average as a number 4 starter and probably a number 3 starter. wellemeyer is wellemyer, but when your 2 pitches like an ace and your 3 like a 2, etc., plus your ace is the best pitcher in the world, you’re not giving up many runs
the offense? there’s fat panda. posey will be up at some point giving you >molina offense. dero will look more like his ’08 self. league average production from rowand, bowker and uribe. lewis is useful. renteria and huff ought to bounce back to some level of usefulness
overall, average offense, above average bullpen and one of the best rotations in the game. they’ll win some games
"Moneyball: It's kind of like communism."
Juan Uribe will not hit at a league average level. His wOBA last year looks super-anomalous, given he had only been above average once in his career before and BABIPed about .040 points above his career rate
I think you’re probably over-rating their offense.
CHONE projects three Giants players to be above-average offensively. Those guys are Pablo Sandoval (who will, presumably, be good), Aubrey Huff (who is projected exactly 1 run above average, and who will have to fight with Ishikawa and maybe Sandoval for playing time at 1B) and John Bowker (who is, seemingly, somewhat over-rated by CHONE after his stellar season in AAA, and who may not be an everyday player anyhow). That’s it. I really think they’ll struggle to score runs. They’re not as bad at that aspect of the game as they were last year, but they’ve probably got as bad an offense as any team in the NL not from Pittsburgh or San Diego (and actually, CHONE seems to like those two offenses about as much anyway).

“Was this a test?”
He said, “Yes.”
“And what does it mean?”
He said, “Well, had you eaten the ears first you would have been normal; had you eaten the feet first you would have had an inferiority complex; had you eaten the tail first you would have had latent homosexual tendencies; and had you eaten the breasts first you would have had a latent oedipal complex.”
I said, “Well, go on. What does it mean when you bite out the eyes and scream, ‘Stop staring at me!’?’”
He says, “It shows you’ve a tendency towards self-destruction.”
I said, “What do you recommend?”
He says, “Go for it!”

went to the original site
The position of a blog in the Wikio ranking depends on the number and weight of the incoming links from other blogs. Our algorithm accords a greater value to links from blogs placed higher up in the ranking.
A blog linking another blog is only counted once a month i.e. if blog A links to blog B 10 times in a given month, it is only counted as having linked to that blog once that month. The weight of any link decreases over time. Also, if a blog always links to the same blog, the weight of these links is decreased.
Only links found in RSS feeds are counted. Blogrolls are not taken into account.
Our rankings are updated on a monthly basis and also include Top Blogs for several categories: Technology, Politics, etc. New categories will be added on a regular basis.
It’s about how often they are link each other. Makes sense since BCB is often linked for ridicule and BtB is linked often for content.
I'm one of those "I don't care how you killed the cow; just serve me a great steak" guys. If the results are logical and easy to understand, I'm pouring some A1 sauce on that formula and eating it. UZR qualifies. -Bill Simmons
and the guy that runs
mlbtraderumors is a big cubs fan, so he is more likely to link to BCB. Basically you’re saying its a useless ranking system?

I want the Cards to have someone like Jonny Gomes on the team to charge the mound from the dugout for Pujols when things like that happen. No sense in the best player in baseball having to take a suspension for something like that, but if they know we have a psycho over there who will come out, maybe they’ll think twice about throwing at Albert. I kinda thought that was why Chris Duncan was on the team for so long, but he never showed the balls. Maybe Shelley Duncan?
