The Phillies lock up Ryan Howard @ 25 mil/per year, effectively raising Pujols asking price north of 30 million for sure. I can't imagine the Cardinals are going to devote 50 million dollars to Pujols/Holliday so I think it best we all enjoy Pujols in a redbird uni while we can.

yeah, I wouldn't throw in the towel just yet

I’m sure ownership knows if Albert goes, attendance probably goes down = less money for them

I crawled the earth, but now I'm higher, 2010 watch it go to fire!

if the cardinals continue with the same mentality

Then yes, he most definitely will sign elsewhere. Sorry, but you can pay 2 hitters 50 mil and field a team for 90 mil, it just isn’t fiscally responsible.

How do you know payroll's not going up?

How do you know Albert will want (or be able to get) more than $30m, in a market where none of the big-market teams will likely need a 1B (except maybe the Dodgers)?

Chris Carpenter doesn't give a fuck about your fantasy team.

Um, the Red Sox desperately need offense

Most Sox fans I know think Pujols to Boston is pretty much a done deal in a few years—they lost out on Texiera and they won’t be overbid on Pujols.

Plus, the Yankees could afford to pay Pujols to be in a DH platoon.

Pujols doesn't really have a place on that team when they have Adrian Gonzalez

of course, if Gonzo ends up somewhere else (Chicago?), then they start to become a much bigger worry.

Plus, the Yankees could afford to pay Pujols to be in a DH platoon.

I realise this was (presumably) a somewhat facetious comment, but we could afford to give Octavio Dotel $50m to be our right-handed set-up man, but it doesn’t mean there’s a cat in hell’s chance of it happening.

I still fail to see your correlation.

What does the Phillies being incompetent have to do with the Cardinals signing Pujols?

by Mister Eff on Apr 27, 2010 5:17 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't know what kind of math you use

but they have to give Pujols a contract with an AAV of 34M to make it 50M between him and Albert.

I DON'T GIVE A FUCK!

BOO you debbie downer.

I am the Batman .
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

lame

as if Pujols would leave to go play in a city he doesn’t want to play in. use your noggan

he is a bit eccentric

for 35mil/yr

I could learn to love boston/LA/new york/chicago…as I’m sure Apu could.

Yankees are about the only team that could/would

but they’re absolutely stacked at 1B/DH. If Pujols was a middle infielder or an outfielder, they’d be a much bigger concern.

Knee-jerk reactions are perpetually on the rise, aren’t they?

the quality of the fanposts

seems to be declining here recently…

seriously though. these things have no correlation. let’s not all get on the waaaambulance just yet.

fanpost used here

incorrectly. sorry, lopey; this is, i suppose, more appropriate for a fanshot than a fanpost so my indictment was less valid.

however, my other point still stands.

a fanshot

Is the perfect place for a kneejerk reaction.

My point still stands, why wouldn’t 25 mil be the benchmark for pujols in the contract negotiations he keeps saying he wants to have but never does?

by lopey986 on Apr 28, 2010 8:40 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

so you're saying that we won't give him that much

I think you are wrong on that account

25 mil was the benchmark before Howard signed his deal

realistically, unless he wanted to give us a big discount, he wasn’t going to sign for less than that.

if you had named your fanshot something less dramatic

you’d be getting better responses. good bye? he’s still here all of this year and all of next year, at the very least.
