FWIW, bourbon is a kind of whiskey

made in the style of whiskey originally made in Bourbon County, KY (corn whiskey aged a couple of years in oak barrels).

It’s somewhat analogous to the fact that champagne is a kind of wine, made in the Champagne region of Fr, except that there’s no law or treaty saying you can’t call Bourbon Whiskey made outside of Ky “Bourbon”.

eh

It was an ok fight. Faber had his legs kicked out from under him so many times he couldn’t walk by the end of the fight. The problem was, and this happens from time to time, Aldo chose not to press the action and take the decision victory.

If I was Aldo, I’d do the same thing. He’s got the win via points and he avoids some random, fluke submission or breaking his hand during a punch. As a fan, it’s frustrating though because you want to see them finish.

That said, it was the best PPV card I’ve ever bought. Some great finishes (Henderson, Gamburyan) some epic battles (Garcia/Jung) and some really technical fighting both on the feet (Aldo) and on the ground (Roller). It showcased almost every aspect of MMA.

I can’t stand the Liddell/Franklin/Mir types who weren’t good enough athletes/punchers to go into other sports/boxing, going into JJ or whatever and beating the rest of the unathletic guys who did the same. This is Hughes dominating Royce on a sport-wide scale. The game has changed for the better.

And since I’m on the guy’s team, and being engaged, I would be an impartial judge, they chose me

It's a weird phenomenon

Being engaged, I have 10x more girl friends than any other guy I know because I’m essentially a gay best friend. Non-threatening.

However, being engaged, I have no desire to take advantage of this fact at all. I am an incredible wingman, though

wtf was up with leaving waino in after

Allowing run #1? He was right at 100 pitches or more, clearly struggling. Making him pitch to 112 didn’t do anything but increase the stress on his arm, 5 days after a CG.

"We were men - flesh and blood - and we played baseball in the sunshine. We hit doubles off the wall, slid hard into second base. We had fights, and we made love. We sang songs and prayed on Sundays. . . . We felt pain. And we felt joy. There was a lot wrong with the world. But we weren't sad, man. We had the times of our lives." Post game thought

Other than Haren….this team has done very poorly against “top of the rotation starters” and Bud Norris. Let’s hope the Cards get to face some 3rd and 4th starters soon to score some runs and win some more games. But if the Cards are going to be a post season team they have to find a way to score some runs off of some of the NL’s best pitchers. Right now this team would be toast against a good pitching staff.

At this point they are getting shut down way too often. The living on the homerun needs to slow down as well and they need to find ways to manufacture runs and not just wait for a 3-run jack.

haha yeah

but i’m just as amazed that it him so hard that the freakin’ catcher almost caught it.

reminds me of the time

Billy Wagner took one off the noggin. It went into foul territory as well. IIRC, former Cardinal Kelly Stinnett hit that one.

i was a bit perplexed by the wide receiver pick in round 4

but i can live with that. what really gets me is why we took not one but two very questionable tight ends later on. the rams needed a tight end, yes, but why draft a couple guys that are crapshoots at best and both players that daniel fells is better than. hopefully one of them works out. the defensive tackles in the later rounds sounds like good potential projects, and i’m one of the few people i know that actually like both the second and third round choices.

by stlcardinalsfang on Apr 25, 2010 1:40 AM EDT up reply actions

my thoughts are summed up

here

if you don’t want to read it all, here’s the summary
Saffold was good pick, but he OT wasn’t on top of priority list so i think we should have traded
I really like Murphy of USF becomes he reminds me of Bradley Fletcher
Gilyard, i think, was questionable… why do we need another 5’11, speedy receiver
first TE sucked, second could actually be good but he has no football experience
i love Hall Davis, he should thrive with Spags
Selvie was the best value in the draft

I will not have you slamming my Hooi

anytime you can draft an Illinois football player you have to make that call… He’ll be fine on seam routes… other than that I’m not sure what he really brings to the team.

you see this anywhere else, yadi2?

i can’t verify its accuracy, but it was posted as a quote on mccovey chronicles:

Sunday starter Brad Penny, who finished the 2009 season with the Giants, Chris Carpenter and about 10 other Cardinals received a private tour of San Quentin State Prison on Saturday morning after Penny arranged it.

penny better throw a shutout tomorrow

what’s odd is it seems he got this bright idea to visit san quentin, and 10 other guys thought that would be cool, too. is this supposed to be akin to working at a soup kitchen?

Penny plus
Carpenter

  1. Skip
  2. LaRue
  3. ?

I’m guessing Brendan didn’t go, because didn’t he make an error too? yet it was only Skip raising his hand.

lol

i thought i noticed

when albert gets in slumps, he seems to be trying to pull everything. When he’s on, he is lasering balls up the middle and one step in front of and behind the OFs. I have no right to be giving hitting advice to anyone over the age of 12, but maybe Albert should try going oppo for a few atbats and see if he can find his swing

Oe maybe it’d be nice to just face some shitty pitchers. Unfortunately we don’t really get any kind of a break. Cain tomorrow, and then Hudson, Lowe, Kawakami, and Jurrjens from ATL. O dear.

closer to the all-star break, we can start worrying about great pitchers vs. our lineup

by cardball on Apr 25, 2010 4:08 AM EDT up reply actions

NL average is .744 OPS

albert’s avg is .729. Which is amazingly bad for an Albert-ish player, who should have a non-trivial impact on the “avg”, driving it upwards.

There’s a good chance we could win this division with Albert out for the year- glad I’m not Mo, right now.

the college pitching matchup of the year:

LSU’s Ranaudo (2-1) was charged with the loss as he surrendered nine runs on nine hits in 1.2 innings with one walk and two strikeouts.

Ole Miss starter Pomeranz, the nation’s strikeouts leader, worked the first three innings, allowing five runs on one hit with nine walks and three strikeouts.
