So is this game on FSMW or not?

The website says it’s on MLB Network and FSNorth. But Eff said it’s on FSMW.

You can read it in any tone you like.

From a link on fangraphs what do you think

My computer just ate a nice post I did on UZR.
The Fangraphs valuations just don’t come close. Something’s wrong with their method and I think its probably UZR. Folr example, they value the whole 84-win Rays team in ‘09 at a salry of $229M, but they think the 80-win Brewers, just four less wins, are "worth" only $116M using their stat methods. Huh???? Even worse, they say the A’s and Blue Jays, both with 75 wins, are worth $162M and $176M, but the Astros and Pads, who won 74 and 75 games, are only worth $98M and $96M. Obviously, to me, there’s a big problem here.

OT - re MLB-TV

Am I dreaming this. I seem to remember that a while back MLB-TV offered a team-only package, like, just Cardinal games. It’s not so much wanting to go on the cheap, as it is I really don’t have the time or need for ALL games.
I just want to see Cardinal baseball.
On the MLB ads I can’t seem to find such a package; did they discontinue it, or did I dream that in the first place?

The Cubs are ratbrains...

In football, the object is for the quarterback, otherwise known as the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his recievers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use the shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.

In baseball the object is to go home! And to be safe! "I hope I'll be safe at home!"

i don’t know what to expect as for his draft potential. he throws low 90s with a good breaking ball, so i seriously doubt he’ll be first round material. it’s hard to tell at this point.

Last year proved that flat, high-90s is too easy for good hitters to just time out.

by thepainguy on Apr 2, 2010 8:59 PM EDT up reply actions

He wasn't regularly in the high-90s

He threw way too many 90-92 crap—-somethings in way too many games. He doesn’t get more life when he backs down the velo and doesn’t really seem to have great command no matter what, and when he doesn’t throw hard he gets lit. His secondary stuff is pretty much what it’s going to be and he can still be good with a killer fastball and a mediocre secondary pitch (see Papelbon. Not that Motte can be Papelbon, but he can be a poor man’s version…….alright homeless man’s version) He doesn’t seem to bring the killer fastball to the park with him all too frequently.

Not afraid to nitpick

by joker24 on Apr 2, 2010 9:07 PM EDT up reply actions

It was definitely, definitely not a slider

It was not a slider/cutter/cutfastball in any way shape or form. He’d throw a sinker or a soft 4-seam or something at 90-92 with disturbing regularity.

Granted this is an outing when he also had his good fastball but those guys at about -11 and 92 mph are….bad changeups? I don’t feel like digging too much here but I remember it that he would rely more on that thing when he didn’t have his good FB.

Not afraid to nitpick

by joker24 on Apr 2, 2010 9:28 PM EDT up reply actions

It still could be a slider, just a really crappy one.

by CodyG on Apr 2, 2010 9:45 PM EDT up reply actions

that's a bit of a reach, though

i thought they could tell rpm’s, etc. with this technology – although i bet motte has stubby little hands, which doesn’t help. better to have pedro or koufax hands. basketball hands like mine definitely are an advantage for a pitcher – i’ve been palming basketballs with both hands since i was 5’7".

"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."

by cardball on Apr 2, 2010 9:52 PM EDT up reply actions

That's what I'd think

But how many 2-seams are 4 mph slower than the slowest 4 seams? He’s definitely turning it over somethin hardcore. Either way I don’t really like it, if you can spot 97 you’ll be fine without a 2-seam.

Not afraid to nitpick

by joker24 on Apr 3, 2010 12:22 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree

I think that Duncan is overreacting to a bad season in a small sample size – or he may have actually seen something, I don’t know.

by vivaelpujols on Apr 3, 2010 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Not really

You can survive with a 95 MPH fastball and not much else. Motte had a bad season last year, but the sample size is too small to directly attribute his stats to his true performance.

95 up in the zone is a powerful thing, and I would bet that Motte can be effective with that and the occasionally slider.

by vivaelpujols on Apr 3, 2010 1:36 AM EDT up reply actions

He did the same thing last year.

Many pitchers have to back off a few MPH to improve their command

Maddux came up able to throw 93 but lived around 90.

Yes.

Because even if you have the right temperature selected doesn’t mean your oven is at that temperature everywhere. All ovens are different. And with something like a turkey you can be off by +/-30 mins. pretty easily.

So without a thermometer you can’t tell if it is done. Unless you cut it open in the deepest part to see if the juices are clear.

In football, the object is for the quarterback, otherwise known as the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his recievers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use the shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.

you have to imagine that - barring injury - the

Reds trade harang or arroyo midseason, if nothing else, for salary relief.

"We were men - flesh and blood - and we played baseball in the sunshine. We hit doubles off the wall, slid hard into second base. We had fights, and we made love. We sang songs and prayed on Sundays. . . . We felt pain. And we felt joy. There was a lot wrong with the world. But we weren't sad, man. We had the times of our lives." probably more realistic

but he has looked like a monster this spring. even MVP contender-like. if he keeps up this pace, (i don’t see how he couldn’t!) he’ll hit 45 HRs and have a slash line that looks like albert’s

SSSS whatever. i can hypereventilate if want

27, but how many doubles?

I’m going to say 45+

i'll go 28

although i think he’ll top that in coming years, i don’t think he’ll ever have a better all-around offensive and defensive year than this – don’t know why, but we had this discussion over the winter, and i’ll stick to it. i think he will have a brilliant career – edmondsesque – but that this will be remembered as his finest year.

watching the usc game, and they have a pitcher warming in “the mark prior bullpen”

that's 124 from those four

i’ll add freeze as the only other double-digit guy at 12, so that’s 136 from the boppers – you got over or under?

My projections

Pujo 45
Lego 30
Ludwig von Homeryan 29
Colt Ramone 26

total 130 I know it isn’t a big spike but Lego hasn’t posted an 8HR month since 07 when he posted and 8 and a 12 one 9HR month and he spikes above his last two years, Luddy may not be back to 08 form but I would guess the lineup around him should give him a bump.

only card highlight the holliday homer, then the final score – mostly span.

who’s everyone got final four. i’ll take mich st. over butler, and w.va. over duke. since i had w. va. losing to kansas for champ, i’ll take w. va. over mich st. in final.

he's in AAA

would you trade stav for him? just theoretical, because although the braves probably could use stav as AAA depth insurance (or barton), we already have gotay and no room in memphis.

from a brewers fanpost titled "more evidence jeff suppan sucks balls"

suppan threw 571 fastballs last year, got 247 swings with 11 misses for a .429 avg. – the worst fastball in baseball.

in other news, the tigers were visiting miller park tonite, and the Polish sausage won the wiener race, leading to this exchange:

I will try to remember to check the sausage race standings on Monday.
If they show 1 win for whoever wins on Monday, then we’ll know if tonight was an exhibition or not.
by tcyoung on Apr 2, 2010

The sausages race at Maryvale, so I’m not sure why they’d consider any exhibition game races as official races.
The fact we care about this says something, but I don’t know what.

Bleed Cubbie Blue fanpost

titled “Cards the favorite? Why?”

there is just so much wrong with the piece and comments, but this is so genuinely humorous even milton bradley might chuckle:

let’s hope …
that the Cardinals’ big free-agent signing flames out and says he understands why the Cardinals haven’t ton a title in four years. :)

it was self-deprecating martyr humor

bradley, their big free-agent signing, didn’t leave chicago without saying he understood now why the cubs hadn’t won a world series in 100 years.

at least i am assuming it was humor

if it wasn’t, then it is even funnier, but this comment that followed it perhaps gives more context:

Perhaps the vaunted St. Louis fans
will start racially taunting Holliday if he doesn’t produce.
