Kirksville, MO

I am looking at moving to Kirksville, MO. I have been offered a job, and would need to move over there. Looking for apartments, have a bunch of questions, can’t seem to find any web sites for complexes. Anyone know of any?

I'm kind of particular about

Things with the apartment, what with the little lady and all. She’s two, so I’m a bit picky.

I would love to have a gym/pool/etc. and have cable/net included. Not too worried about the rent, so….. Ya. any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

by pbg222 on Apr 18, 2010 10:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Well

Laundry in the apartment would be great, cable and net being included would be awesome, the pool thing is really important because my daughter is a freaking swimming FANATIC. Everyday we come home she says “Daddy, pool. Let’s play in the water daddy. Ooooooooh, water!” So, I wouldn’t want to break her little heart by not letting her have access to a pool. Other than that I’m willing to compromise. Proximity to the U is not priority at all.

you'll have to figure out how close you want to live to the university

if you want amenities you’re going to want to be on the edge of town, most likely. KV is a one-stoplight town that’s grown some due to the university there, but it’s still pretty tiny and most of the apartments are going to be geared towards students.

The Ville

1) Sorry…

2) Campbell Apartments are alright. They’re in the SW corner of town, but unless your job is out in the boonies, then you can get there in 10-15 minutes since K-Ville is so small.

Small towns

I’m from a small town, (1700 people) and have lived in a town of 22,000 for MOST of the last 6 years. So, small towns don’t bother me. Plus, I kind of like the idea of small towns for me and the little lady.

clemens and lincecum were 2's?

i’m talking reality, the ace of the staff, not who starts opening day or something frivolous. carp was the best pitcher on the cards last year, but had waino had a better year and also won the cy, i’d say he was the ace. so, has the second best pitcher on a staff won over the best pitcher on the staff, i guess i’m asking. looks like cody might have an answer below. apparently the third best pitcher on the braves in some particular year won a cy.

"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."

by cardball on Apr 19, 2010 12:42 AM EDT up reply actions

that's a contradiction

ace of staff pitches opening day most years, unless you mean at end of year in which case this doesn’t make sense

Lining up the starters?

Who do we have against Arizona, anyways?

Penny vs. Lopez

Lohse vs. Haren

Carp vs. Jackson?

I could be quite wrong, of course. I could very well see yet another 2-1 result after the end of this series, based on nothing but the prospective pitching matchups, that might not even be correct.

the 20 bullet points for 20 innings post on the front page is well worth a read
19. I recognize that it was late in the game and a lot of those guys had been in there for the equivalent of two ballgames, but to score zero runs against infielder Felipe Lopez in the 18th and just two runs in the final two innings against outfielder Joe Mather is depressing, embarrassing, and even a little shameful
20. And finally, the quote of the day: When Jerry Manuel was asked during the postgame interview, “In all seriousness, if you had taken out your cleanup hitter in a New York home game and have the pitcher twice bat with the bases loaded after Pujols walked, what would happen to you?”, the Mets’ manager responded, “Oh, you know what’d happen to me!”

Yup, pretty much nailed those two.

Game Recap

short but sweet tonight
Player of the Game – Waino – CG, 9 IP, 9 Ks, 2 ERs, W
Goat of the Game – Albert Pujols – 0-5, 5 LOBsters
Defensive Play of the Game – I’m not one to reward mets players, but jeff franceour’s throwout of ludwick in the 1st earns it

Stupid Quote of the Day – “That’s the problem, when you hit as good as albert, you think you can hit anything” – Joe Morgan

Hmmm……. honorable mention to Joe saying Waino had a bad curveball when the hitter fell out of his shoes

Stupid Play of the Day – Waino error in 2nd almost ruined his start

Umpire Grading – C+ – Umpires have generally sucked this series… better than last night, but not great

Had a kid on the team back in high school

that threw a half decent knuckler. The catcher we had literally caught on his knees the whole game, just…trying to keep it in front of him. It was pretty hilarious, even though if he didn’t release it just right, he got battered.

Awesome story:

I was at this local grocer getting some stuff yesterday, and there was an open bottle of Jameson on the counter, so I was BSing with the meat-counter guy, asking him which one of them was drinking whiskey in the middle of the morning, and the owner was like “here, have some” gave me a shot and a little bottle of Tullamore for a penny.

VEB Weekend Recap Thread:

Thursday night: Friend flies in from Missouri to come visit me. I just turned 21 on Tuesday, so we have a few beers at a friend’s place, go to sleep fairly early.

Friday: Wake up, give him a tour around campus. Go to Santa Monica beach and hang out with some girlies, then meet a few buddies at the Yard House (I think there’s one in KC. It’s FANTASTIC. 100 beers on tap). Had a goblet of Maudite, a goblet of Delerium Tremens, and a pint of Warsteiner Dunkel. Was there until 11:30, come back, play some FIFA, go to sleep.

Saturday: Spend all day in Claremont watching the women’s Ultimate Frisbee team here play in their Sectionals. Come back just in time to watch the start of the 15th inning of the Cards game. Finished that out, took a few shots, went and ate Mexican food at Chano’s here. Took a tram to meet up with a friend downtown, where we went to an ULTRA-CLASSY rum bar that has a membership fee of $20 per year or something, some other random bar called the Golden Gopher, and then to the Standard Hotel for late night dinner.

One consequence I’ve noticed since turning 21 is that I no longer know when it’s socially acceptable to drink. Now, every time I go to a restaurant that serves, I feel OBLIGATED to buy a beer.

That feeling of obligation dies very quickly on a college budget

That was also beaten out of me by visiting the city of Prague: land of the $1 .5L beers and .3L waters for $2.50. By the end of the monthish, I dreaded beer (before 8 PM) but just couldn’t bring myself to spend 4x as much money on a beverage even at 10 AM….along with everyone else in that city.

Unbelievable

It never got bombed in WWII so there’s an amazing amount of historical stuff there.

More importantly for the social life: put it this way, the legal climate is effectively similar to Amsterdam except it’s 3x as large a city—-it has beer that is on par with Germany’s finest but ohbytheway costs $1-2 for .5L (17 ounces) in 95% of the places—-cheap public transportation takes you most places in the downtown—-once you get to the main square you can walk 2 miles in any direction and find endless restaurants/bars/casinos/clubs/"special"clubs so bar hopping gets taken to a whole new level, and the party goes all night. The only negative I can think of is that not everyone speaks English and some of the older people are a little standoffish to foreigners, but that’s kinda fun in a way.

If I could get a job and live there, I’d be learning Czech.

gdm's random thought of the night

after watching the replay again, if Luddy slides towards the inside part of the plate instead of the outside part in the first inning, he would have been safe. he ran right into the throw & it was easy for the catcher to tag him. there’s no way with the catcher going back to catch it like he had do, that he could have tagged Luddy out if Luddy slid on the inside part. his momentum would have been taking him away from Luddy instead of right at Luddy.

the question is, should or could Luddy have recognized that and been able to adjust accordingly? think about it, if he’s safe, Lego’s on 2nd with two outs & mayne has to pitch to Colby with a RISP & with as bad as he was pitching tonight, who knows what happens next? oh what might have been,,,,

this as been gdm’s random thought of the night. you may now go back to doing whatever it was you were doing

but, traditionally the on-deck batter should be guiding the runner where to slide, so colby could have helped to cue luddy in on the location of the throw and where to slide.

yeah

can’t tell that from the still. But part of the problem may have been a bad angle around 3rd that put him too far in foul territory and eliminated the option of going to the inside completely. Luddy certainly looks like he was coming from an angle well into foul territory in the still.

Haha

That was my favorite show when I was a kid.

But the few times I’ve caught an episode as an adult it’s been truly terrible

You crazy?

That show will forever be awesome. Except for when they were little. Cory’s voice drives me bonkers.

My friend downloaded that voice on her TomTom. She liked the idea of Mr. Feeny telling her where to go. We didn’t know at the time why he was an option. Them my mother explained. And I said I liked our way better.
