"We were men - flesh and blood - and we played baseball in the sunshine. We hit doubles off the wall, slid hard into second base. We had fights, and we made love. We sang songs and prayed on Sundays. . . . We felt pain. And we felt joy. There was a lot wrong with the world. But we weren't sad, man. We had the times of our lives." i know it's late & no one's reading this, but i still want to ask

if i open a bakery instead of a bar, will VEB’ers still frequent it? now bare with me for a second. in the morning, i’d serve donuts, breakfast pastries & coffee. then we’d close down for the afternoon & around 6pm we’d open back up & server deserts like cakes, pies, cupcakes, brownies & cookies along with various other desert dishes. of course there’d be TV’s & have alcohol, but it’d be a much more casual & cool place to come after you’ve had your supper so you can relax & watch the game, instead of the original idea of vivaelbaro. we’d have big soft seats & couches instead of hard tables & stools to sit on.

the more i think about this, the more i’d think i’d be happier owning a place like that than a traditional restaurant/bar

who's going to want to eat breakfast pastries or baked goods from 12-6ish?

that’s not really lunch food stuff. just thinking it wouldn’t be too smart business wise to be open when no one will be coming in

maybe just give away beer if you buy some bread

double carbs!

you could have coffee of course, always goes with pastries and cupcakes, etc

i'm thinking more along the line of cocktail type drinks than bottles & cans of beer

not that i wouldn’t be open to serving those, i just envision this as a more upscale/classier joint than your typical sports bar/restaurant. yet still laid back enough where you don’t feel out of place wearing jeans or shorts & a t shirt. because frankly that’s what i wear all the time & i wouldn’t want to own a place where even i couldn’t go to

i don’t know, it just seams to me there’s a market, i’m not sure how big it is, for a place that only serves desert style foods. i almost never order desert at a restaurant because they never have anything i find appealing. it’s usually a piece of stale cake/pie, a frozen cheese cake, or some kind of sundae or a crappy brownie with vanilla ice cream. if you have a place that specializes in only desert style after meal foods, i for one would much rather go there than eat a crappy overpriced desert at a place that doesn’t take the time to really make a good one. i look at it like this, you’ve eaten, you’re still a little hungry & want to scratch that itch your sweet tooth is giving you, so after you’ve walked around for about an hour or so after you’ve eaten you get the idea to stop on in & eat a really good desert/ice cream/frozen custard type dish in a casual comfortable setting where you can also enjoy the Cards game. now maybe this would only work in the summer or not at all. i don’t know. i know there’s two ted drews in the STL & of course dairy queen type places, so maybe this is a horrible idea. it’s just something i’ve envisioned for years about owning & the more i think about & the more research i do into actually owning & operating a sports bar type place, the less & less i actually want to do it.

no, not at all. i still would like to have the largest selection of beer in the city

i would just like most of them to come from the tap instead of bottles & cans

When I checked this morning

I still got brought to the Rich Hill story….I just saw your fan shot. Apparently I’ve only been checking the Rundown, and not the whole site.

pertinent to recent discussions of UZR and positioning

anybody see how the renegade pirates shifted their whole outfield to the right, regardless of batter? routine balls to left were falling for hits, so the lf’s uzr takes a big hit. but a right-center gapper would be right to the cf’er, who would then seemingly have amazing range.
