Cud LaDunc Work His Magic With This Guy??

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/03/white-sox-release-daniel-cabrera-jason-botts.html

Star-divide

Daniel Cabrera.  I know, the name just gives you the shivers, doesn't it?  This is a guy who cud bring heat, but was just all over the place.  Lots of wild pitches, hit batters, annual FIP over 5, nary a WHIP udder 1.50, and bushels of walks, walks, walks.

But

Lots of K's.  And close to 50% ground ball outs.  No serious injuries I can think of.  And he'd be cheap, cheap, cheap.

Here is the question: is Cabrera worth picking up to use as a reliever ONLY, provided Dave Duncan can wave his sparkly wand and produce an-udder reclamation miracle, or is he such damaged goods that we should just wave buh-bye and be done with him?

Curious cows wanna know what YOU think!

I bet there's an injury in that arm somewhere

2005 Fastball – 96mph
2009 Fastball – 91mph

Think; It's not illegal yet.

he's got size, and a good arm

don’t know if it’s ever been done, but might be worth a try.

I get the joke, but nah

If I remember correctly, he was 0-for-13 for his career before drawing a walk.

if you want to cowvert someone into a reliever that has control issues

we already have Rich Hill

Duncan has generally found mediocre pitchers and made them fantastic

Carpenter, Williams, Kile, etc. have followed that pattern.

When he’s taken on terrible pitchers like the baron, Tomko, and Wellemeyer, the results haven’t been so great.

what's weird about Welley is that in '08 he was so much better than in '09

We did OK with Wellemeyer

if we could get another 2008 (sub-4 ERA, nearly league average WAR over 150-odd innings) with a dumpster dive, I’d be very happy. He sucked in 2009, but he’d have hurt us less if they’d been prepared to cut bait on him sooner.

That said, I’m not terribly excited about Daniel Cabrera. Steve Blass disease, plus likely injury-induced nosedive in velocity, plus awful 2009 with bad team, plus never-was-really-very-good-in-the-first-place, equals a crappier version of Rich Hill, and we’ve already got Rich Hill. I suppose if they just stuck him in Memphis on a MiLB deal I could live with it, but then he doesn’t really get to work with Duncan anyway, does he?

Well, what Got me Interested in Him...

…udder than the fact that I saw him a lot on tv (since I get to see Orioles games a lot) and noticed cow many ground ball outs he got – I figured that was something Dunc already preached, and I figured maybe with better D and O he might have a chance if he worked out his troubles. But yer all right, I don’t see him as any kind of a plus anymoore – I’m just scoutin’ the dumper for a worthy dive.

On a minor league deal,

with a shot at a callup if our bullpen really tanks, I could live with that.

Yeah, I don't think anyone would really object

to stocking up on some depth bullpen arms to stick in Memphis.

He wouldn't listen to Mazzone and quiet down his delivery

I doubt he’s going to listen to Duncan.

Plus, as Az posted, it looks like he might be hurt.

Can Colby round out our new MV3?
