Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Awww. So cute! Brendan is cooking a nice salmon dinner for Mr. Mather, who is out running errands. The best part: dessert is a strawberry RING POP.

Observations and/ or interpretation welcome. : )

Mather will be portrayed by Sidney Poitier

Tony will be played by Katherine Hepburn. Also starring Spencer Tracy as Dave Duncan.

Albert Pujols does not have "down" years. He has "~6 WAR" years.

I second this.

It should continue all season long.

Me too.

I feel like they’re trying to keep him out of trouble since he can’t focus on baseball as much while recovering from surgery.

Here’s a camera, kid—stay busy. Don’t let me catch you in the strip club.

one of his last quotes was that he was trying to remind himself

every hour to stay focused on his rehab.

personally I’d rather have less Brendan TV and more Boog D.

Every HOUR? Good god.

Maybe he should go back on his meds.

I would rather be seeing Boog D but I don’t want him to push himself and get re-injured. TLR has expressed concern about this—if he’s told he’s not ready, he might push too hard to prove that he IS ready. He seems like a handful to manage.

If he fails to be outstanding this year, I’m afraid that might be the end of the Brendan Ryan-as-a-starter era, which I am NOT prepared for.

JUPITER, Fla. — St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Brendan Ryan outlined a rehab schedule that targets his exhibition-game debut for the week of March 21st, even as manager Tony La Russa repeated that there is a difference between Ryan being healthy for games and Ryan being ready for games.

"They want to make sure I have a good understanding of what the big picture is," Ryan said, "and I’m not only reminding myself of that daily, but (also) hourly."
….
La Russa cautioned Wednesday morning that rushing Ryan back now could risk an unnecessary setback later. He said Ryan falls under the category of "preparing for the worst, hope for the best," and that the club should prepare as if he won’t be available for opening day.

"Once he’s strong and ready, he’s got to take enough at-bat where’s he’s got his timing," La Russa said. "He can’t rush in there for four days and say, ‘Hey, I’m ready.’ And all of a sudden he hits .210."

Ryan said he "can’t imagine" not being ready to start the season.

"I never saw myself not ready for opening day, even to this last minute," Ryan said. "That’s what I’m shooting for. But if there’s a chance of risk, I’m not going to be stupid. Three games is not worth losing a season."

G-D: Ryan takes live batting practice Saturday, March 13, 2010

Brendan Ryan took batting practice Saturday for the first time after having wrist surgery on Feb 9. Ryan, who hit in a group with Joe Mather and Allen Craig, took four rounds of five swings each for a total of 20 swings.

"I didn’t know what to expect," Ryan said. "I thought it would go OK but it went better than I thought it would go. I didn’t have to compromise my swing in any way. I hit line drives to all fields. I took a lot better swings than I thought I was going to take.

"When I start worrying about my swing and stuff, that’s a good sign, because I’m not worried about my wrist, which is where I was at."

Ryan will take batting practice again on Sunday and hopes to progress to live pitching early next week. He said Friday that he hopes to return on March 20 and that timetable still appears within reach.

"I got in trouble for throwing a date out there," Ryan said Saturday. "But if everything is OK then I guess it’s alright. I feel good enough to keep moving along and hopefully it just keeps going that way."

Ryan said he is 100 percent defensively and hopes to appear as a late-inning defensive replacement or pinch-runner sometime next week.

Someday, he will.

Or he’ll be in the booth. But I think his presence translates better to TV.

Yeah, he will need a stylist. I'll volunteer.

He does seem cognizant of what some elements of his personal style should be (I like the gigantic chain—it works for him), but he needs direction and editing.

Those goofy t-shirts have to go.

P.S. I’m trying to remember—are the chains a uniform-only adornment for most MLB players? It seems as though some players have game day jewelry and street clothing jewelry. I guess a big platinum chain doesn’t really go with a t-shirt and shorts (or white gold, whatever).

i have never seen him in anything other than t-shirts

I suspect he has a collection, which means you’re prying it off his dead body. maybe a tailored jacket? I don’t know. if anyone were motivated to make t-shirts look cool, it’d be Boog

Also, remember he was on Saturday Night Live when he was 6.

The video is featured in a permanent installation in the Centre Pompidou.

baby Brendan on TV

He said he only had one line. I am fairly certain he’s the kid with two popped collars and mirrored sunglasses that says “It’s Miss Linda herself” just past the halfway point.

i'm not watching all that!

the centre pompidou and it’s surroundings in les halles are sort of the equivalent of boog’s goofy tees (well, his goofiness in general). i can even picture him walking around there aimlessly with the rest of the tourists, licking on an ice cream while watching the monkey perform, and then sitting fascinated by the gadgets in one of the fountains until mather goes looking for him because it’s suddenly dinnertime.

All that? It's like 5 minutes long. Just move the slider to the middle for Christ's sake

It features the voice of Phil Hartman and it’s funny.
