1985 Don Denkinger bad call photo

Hey Everyone,

My wife will be moving to Kansas City to work for one year.

I want to get a nice framed photo of Don Denkinger's bad call in the 1985 World Series against the Royals for her to hang up in her cubicle and annoy all of the Royals fans in her office. However, I'm having trouble finding a nice quality image to get printed. Does anyone know where I can find one of these bad boys? My fallback option is a signed photo of Don Denkinger, which appear to be plentiful on ebay.

Thanks in advance, and Go Cards!

If you found a nice

quality version of that photo, it would be really expensive. eBay is your best bet. OR, try to find it in a book and just make a color photocopy of it.

Mike Duffy's Pub and Grille...

… in Kirkwood used to have a huge framed picture of it. I don’t know if that place is even open anymore, and I haven’t been there in more than a decade, but I seem to recall that it came from the Post-Dispatch. I know with some newspapers you can order high-quality reprints from back issues, so it might be possible with the P-D. Prolly cost a little bit, but definitely worth it if you can. Other than that I have no idea.

Annoying Royals fans.

Does Denkinger’s bad call annoy KC fans? Most KC fans I know—which is a very small sample size—love to rub that in my face. I might get a picture from the 2006 World Series celebration and juxtapose it with a picture of David Glass shaking Dayton Moores hand at the initial press conference at which he was hired, so the KC fans know it is of Royals executives/owners. I would then follow that up by continuously emailing Joe Posnanski pieces to them because his writings on KC are well-written, smart, informed, not devoid of hope, and painfully honest.

If you want to annoy a Royals fan

Just point out the Royals record for the past 25 years.

the royals have won 2 more games than the pirates

since the buccos record-setting losing-season streak began in 1992.

interesting...

i thought it would annoy them, but perhaps not. i guess there may be better ways to get inside the psyche of the royals fanbase.

Kinda related

One of my prized possessions is a print of Rick Monday Saves the Flag.

The gal who got it for me tracked down the photographer who took it and the paper it ran in originally. The photographer was dead already and the paper had gone out of business. When the paper went under, their assets were turned over to Los Angeles County. She got one of their archivists to find the original film, blow up the biggest print they could, and mail it out to her. It’s hanging in a frame in my living room.

Best present I’ll ever get, I imagine. (Even if it was a Cubs game).

how about . . .

this?

"We were men - flesh and blood - and we played baseball in the sunshine. We hit doubles off the wall, slid hard into second base. We had fights, and we made love. We sang songs and prayed on Sundays. . . . We felt pain. And we felt joy. There was a lot wrong with the world. But we weren't sad, man. We had the times of our lives."
