Unofficial Albert's new officially unofficial nickname thread

Per rotoworld, Albert has again stressed his displeasure with the nickname "el hombre".  And we don't want to make Albert mad (or do we?).  So lets use this thread to discuss the new officially unoffical nickname at veb.

We should probably eliminate any and all variations of the man including el hombre, mang, etc.

"the machine" is an obvious candidate.  i have no idea how that translates to spanish.

anything relating to destruction of brad lidge should deserve serious consideration as well.  lets just be sure to get out in front of the dispatch on this one so we can dictate the new nickname.

well, this is just a brainstorming thread.  i may add a poll once we get some frontrunners.

That's the word. A translation was asked for, and there it is.

Just because a word has a feminine designation doesn’t mean that it’s a ‘girly’ word, anyway.

I have often wondered

whether any languages that have masc/fem designations on words ever use feminine ones for really masculine words (“la penis” or whatever) or vice versa.

You would be surprised

But most of the vulgar sustitutions for the word ‘penis’ in Spanish comes preceded by a feminine designation.

I think El Hombre will stick especially if he remains

A cardinal for his career, that’ll always be his nickname, I can understand though his feelings, mainly because Stan the Man is so much to the cardinals after his playing days and I don’t think he’d be so loved if he wasn’t a lifetime cardinal and ‘only’ a career cardinal. Albert hasn’t reached Stan as a lifetime cardinal yet.

Hmmm

Isn’t this a bit wierd? The machine = La maquina (too lazy to get the accent). So Americanized, it’s The Mac.

How about the Big Mac :D

In football, the object is for the quarterback, otherwise known as the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his recievers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use the shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.

In baseball the object is to go home! And to be safe! "I hope I'll be safe at home!"

How about Biggus Stickus?

“I have a very good friend named Biggus Stickus.”

Albert Pujols does not have "down" years. He has "~6 WAR" years.

el hombre

well, if he doesn’t like it….doesn’t that kinda solidify it?

maybe he needs a history lesson or two to realize what an honor it is to even be mentioned in the same breath as musial. when it comes to class and dignity, pujols still can’t carry musial’s jock. musial was never thrown out of a game.
golly. ASFAIK, i was the first to drop “hombre” on pujols way back when over at birdsonthebat. but he wants a new one eh? sadly in a couple of years it will be “Yanks DH” regardless of anything so he’ll always be el hombre to me. let the yank fans make up a new one when he gets there.

when does RB Fallstrom get inducted to the hall of fame?

by hongniao on Mar 2, 2010 1:29 AM EST reply actions

i don't get the animosity

and if he can’t carry musial’s jock, why did you “drop” the name on him in the first place?

just, wow.

I don’t think he needs a history lesson, the reason he doesn’t like it is because he is deferring to STM. What more do you want?

I think it's pretty classy of him to want Stan to keep his name so he has all of the honor.

Sure, to want that.

But it’s less than classy to keep complaining about it. Stan would’ve never done that.

Incorrigible.

by spants on Mar 2, 2010 12:41 PM EST up reply actions

True.

But it’s also less than classy to just say he is going to be the Yankees DH in a few years anyway.

I've always been partial to

El Caballo, but I’m sure that’s been used before. Maybe El Caballo ____, inserting favorite adjective here.

I like

El Caballo Loco (but it’s too close to Pollo Loco)
El Caballo Grande
El Caballo Fuerte?
El Caballo Rojo

The man is pure horsepower.

Caballos de Fuerza (horsepower)
