Around SBN: 2012 Africa Cup Of Nations Final

Hey all

I've been subscribed to the Birdos blog for awhile now, but am yet to be active on it.  I am a HUGE hockey fan, so that has been at the forefront of my attention lately, but with spring training looming closer, I thought I better introduce myself.  I am a student at the University of Northern Iowa who loves baseball and had the privilege of watching Pujols play minor league ball in Peoria for about 20 games (lived there briefly).  I was 11 I think and I bet my dad a whole dollar that Pujols would make it into the majors, to which my dad said he didn't have a prayer.  I got my dollar.  Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself, and I look forward to talking baseball with you guys.  Go Cardinals!

Welome to the forums

Glad to have you aboard, mate. Actually, it might be fun to have a posting where folks share their location and passions. I post pretty sporadically, but for what its worth…

I live in the Washington DC area. Currently I’m down in Houston TX visiting family for an extended length of time. And my work consists of supporting adult education initiatives for the National Guard, particularly those related to emergency management and disaster response.

I was thinking the same thing

When I was in high school, I made maps of where everyone was planning on going to school/work/travel for the school newspaper. It would be cool to do something similar here. Maybe a questionnaire with name, current location, location of origin, beginnings as a Cardinals fan, favorite Cardinals moment, favorite Cardinals player past and current. I would be willing to attempt to make said map if there is enough interest.

And, more importantly, welcome esylvester! As far as your hockey team selection, I applaud you.

You're in DC?

I lived there for the last 4 years, and am trying to get back as soon as possible. Actually going back on Tuesday for a job interview, and my girlfriend still lives in Cap Hill. Yeah, I agree – a “who I am, where I’m from, my background, and why I love the Cards” would be a great idea.

welcome

just wondering, having mentioned peoria and northern iowa, how did you escape the fandom (or dumb) of the cubs?

haha i actually grew up in canada for the first 10 years of my life, so when i moved to the midwest i was pretty open to anything. i saw there were WAYYYY too many cub fans, and as a rugby/hockey/cricket player, i sorta like obscurity. decided on being a cards fan after watching pujols in a ball… and to piss off cubs fans :)

Welcome!

I don’t really care that much about hockey so your choice of team does not bother me. And I don’t know why it bothers everyone else. Shows how much I know.
