you caloric abomination….he just called Rick—-in his heyday—a “pretty good” pitcher. Uh…as far as rookie pitchers go, Rick was about as promising as they come. Give him some credit, fatty

wells was kind of busy when rick came up

ending

JD drews career year

btw…that is why i love holliday so much….dude can take a 93 mph off his hand and the next day come back and crack a homer….holliday was hit by 9 pitches this year……drew’s career wouldve been over if he took this hbp’s

Wow!!

From starting the season with the Royals (and on the DL for most of that time) and me thinking his career was just about over because of injuries….to hitting a homerun in the playoffs to win a game for the Braves!!

The feel good story that is Rick Ankiel has just added another chapter.

who had

the website that had an excitement rating?

this is why baseball is the greatest game…..u go from a boring hopeless game to a momentum swing of a double play to the bomb in the pond

also i just realized that my comment about the hopelessness of the braves is equivalent to the cards playing the ’stros……..may have had deeper meaning…….GOB realized that they needed more games like the 05 nlcs where the Pujols beat Lidge in the 9th….eh? im on to something

it’s more fangraphs-like without the team weights, though. so no actual game events are counted, like panda collisions or historic homers or crazy ejections. mostly robots.

you only have 8 innings to score

against the Yankees, that’s for sure. Oh, if that were true for the Cards…

by mattyp on Oct 9, 2010 2:04 AM EDT up reply actions

You know

I can remember some of La Russa’s teams (2000-2002 & 2009) playing “too tight” in the playoffs and probably losing because of it….but they have nothing on this Reds team. They looked brutal out there. I almost felt sorry for them…..almost. From being no-hit to all the errors….yikes.

they didn't look tight, though

the bullpen did
some of the fielding errors were flukey

on the other hand, Ryan Howard got his fill of righties with lefties available, and then there was an inexplicable IBB, so it’s not like it was all ’tude…

Once Rolen made his error

you could just feel the tightness on that Reds team….at least I could. From that point something got in their heads….and they were really shakey all around….more so the bullpen like you said.

“I was just looking for a pitch to drive, and got lucky and put a good swing on it,” Ankiel said. “And I can’t explain how I feel right now. … I can’t even explain it. I’d say this is the pinnacle of everything I’ve ever done. To win a playoff game with a home run, I mean, that’s where it’s at.”

One thing is for sure

The National League series have been hell of a lot more exciting that the AL 4-hour game borefests thus far. Watching a few innings of some of the AL games have put me to sleep…but I have really enjoyed the NL games.

okay i just watched the CG of the reds/phils

okay in 7th it looked like utley didnt get HBP…looked like he was out at 2nd… and it looked like he missed 3rd base on rollins hit to bruce…and reds didnt appeal….that is one crazy inning for utley….who played about as shitty as oilspill…..not a good game for 2basemen

by guillermozeliak on Oct 9, 2010 3:01 AM EDT reply actions

I noticed that too

Seemed like the umps were giving the Phils a few breaks….but the Reds shit their pants so hard at that point it didn’t even matter. But that “HBP” on Utley was a big break for Philly for sure. i just couldn’t get over how wild the Reds bullpen got. Their nerves really got to them….which can happen to a young team with very few players with post season experience. To me when Rolen (their veteran leader) made that costly error…I think it shook them up.

sheesh

yea its a lil hard to get a feel for the flow of the game on the condensed version

but i just noticed Rolen’s boot on Polanco’s grounder…Arroyo wouldve gotten out of the inning unscathed, o well
