Fun and Gems with the 2010 Cardinals
(Dec 2011 update - since FSNMW has killed all these videos, outside hosting was needed to keep them alive for everyone to see. My apologies to FSNMW but certain things shouldn't be deleted)
* * *You know what, I'm not going to mope about this all winter. It is what it is. And we ended on a high note..
Looking back at the 2010 season, aside from some (really, tragically) bad baseball, this season hasn't really lacked entertainment or highlights. I'll let you guys dissect the baseball fiasco, I will just concentrate on what made me smile this season. Feel free to throw in some of your favorites
|
The Boog and Bombs Sitcom My favorite part of the 2010 season was actually Spring Training because of the Boog and Bombs sitcom and I was very sad when it got canceled. But here's a recap. And if you haven't seen it, go watch it! It has everything - comedy, fashion, celebrities, cooking, travel, nature, medicine, art and broken stuff. Disclaimer: Boog Affliction T-Shirt appearance count - 5. Oh Boog... In the Boog-and-Bombs preseason trailers Boog arrived with a cast, and Joey Bombs in a teeny tiny Ford rental and a cool T-shirt * * * In the season premiere Boog the cameraman films "the most popular guy in camp - Joey Bombsquad" pretending to hit Mark McGwire's big HR with bat dropping, turning back to touch 1B, high fives, picking up the kid and everything * * * In the second episode Boog coaches Big Mac with a special appearance of one David Freese * * * An extra two part (1 & 2) tiny little episode Boog and Bombs briefly get to be in the vicinity of Kobe Bryant thanks to Albert Pujols convincing the security guards that they were on the Cardinals. * * * Another extra episode shows the chatty chatterbox that is Boog taking BP * * * Episode three is all about fashion. Matt Holliday's not appreciating * * * Episode four features Boog as Bombs' housewife (Boog, lose the shirt please) * * * Episode five takes place in the garage and tells the story of Joey's rental's parking and Joey's parking skills. Boog: "You parked the car and hit the garage door and i asked if the garage door was gonna hit the car and you came running over..". This is how close it was * * * |
2010 Cardinals HRs
|
|
For episode six on the Boog-and-Bombs show the boys are back in the garage. The episode features "one ball, one tennis racket, one Joe Mather, a hoop, lots of pride, and lots of skill." A trashcan lid makes an appearance too but it looks like this game is not ready to become a professional sport. Yet. * * * |
![]() |
Since garage basketball didn't take off as they'd wanted, in episode seven Boog and Bombs recruit some girls and attempt garage tennis. Before the game can really begin, Joey hits a bomb and a wall clock dies in the process. Joe tries to look innocent and rats out Boog for braking a framed vintage poster earlier.

* * *
Episode eight goes back to cinema basics - (almost) silent movie but long and artsy, and in color. Boog and Bombs are on a 2:45 am mission to retrieve some drinks and it is a success!

* * *
Midseason coincided with the end of spring training and it looked like a good time to do a best of that included a couple of unaired scenes

* * *
In episode ten Joe and Boog visit Target field. Here's a couple for the ladies:

* * *
Remember this?
Episode eleven takes us behind the scenes of this the Waino-Jim Rome interview sabotage - funny as hell

* * *
|
I wonder if this was supposed to be Boog's interview for his own Food Network show.. Maybe Boog wants to be a cooking psychologist and episode twelve looks almost rehearsed. "I've had ribs, and you haven't. How does that make you feel?" * * * |
![]() |
![]() |
And if the Food Network rejected him, that's probably Boog's plan B - audition for National Geographic. In episode thirteen Boog and Bombs discover The biggest. Bird. Ever! (that thing is pretty huge) * * * |
And now we'll be immersed in the world of medical dramas. In episodes fourteen and fifteen little Boog undergoes the surgical removal of an ingrown toenail. He's scared, he's screaming, there are doctors, surgical instruments, iodine, gloves, lots of close-ups and a surprisingly stoic Joe Mather. Watch these at your own peril. For the sensies among us, there will be no snapshots of body parts, just of scared Boog and in-pain Boog.

* * *
Episode sixteen, poetically entitled "Braving the storm" plays out to the undying Rick Astley hit and guest stars Freese and Motte and an epic downpour. Some disturbing closeups of wet pants I'd rather not post..
* * *
In episode seventeen Boog tries to get Bombs in trouble by making him honk the car horn at the car in front that's holding them up in the parking lot. Only, the driver of that car is the bossman Mo who's signing autographs. They honk. Mo gives them a look. That is probably when he called FSNMW and told them to cancel the show, because the next one is the last one.
* * *
The season finale takes place in Cincinnati on the off day after the opening day destruction of the Reds. Cincinnati is so boring, that the boys have to entertain themselves with a little bouncy ball, which is, of course, absolutely exhausting..

* * *
And while we're doing finale's, here's the season finale of Cardinals Live. See who rattles the cages, Hawk lurk and the reason why Pat Harris will one of these days take revenge on the freaky green hairy mess that is the Philly Phanatic
* * *
Extra episodes:
Spaceballs and Top Gun:

Thank you FSNMW and next year please give cameras to everyone!
* * *
Nov 4th 2010 update: Now that Joe Mather's off to Atlanta, it is certain there will be no more Boog and Bombs... :(( Also, 2011 found Boog traded to Seattle :(

FYI, Floppy's walk-off HR #41 in the list wasn't actually a HR, just a really long walk-off single off the wall
(I watched all the slams and walk-offs – super-cool)
It's going to take me all offseason to get through all this

That needs to be a season-long thing… which would require Bombs to be with the Big Squad all season…which would be a good thing.
Wonderful post. This will provide some nice re-read potential for the offseason doldrums.

it’s been easier to remember the lowlights since they couldn’t beat crappy teams. but the first couple of months were excellent. it was also easy to forget a lot of the daring defensive plays that showed just how much talent was on the team.

Boog and Bombs Video
I went to the game yesterday and sat next to the producer of the Boog and Bombs videos. He also produces the pregame shows and Cardinal Classics. He told me:
1) He had about 100 1-minute clips to go through and edit it down
2) They were having so much fun that they were trying to convince FSMW to turn it into a reality series
3) They took a ton of locker room videos which did not make the rest of the team too happy. Yadi had to take the camera away from them for a while and they were afraid that they were never going to give it back.
4) Carp told them "get the fucking camera out of my face or I am going to break it in half." I tried to convince him to either give me a copy of that video or post it online but it doesn’t look like either is going to happen.by Green Man! on Apr 30, 2010 9:19 AM CDT reply actions 7 recs

must-see homers for those that didn't go through them
Pujols – #1 (im sorry did i break your concentration?), #11 (grab extra towels for this one) , #42 (Oh you were finished?), #44 (out of Wrigley’s ballpark – a must-see of the must-sees), #46 (hell, see #45 too – worst camera man ever though), #63 (well, allow me to retort…), #93 (what country you from?), #99 (line drive homer that was 100 feet high), #109 (what ain’t no country i’ve ever heard of) #110 (haha no one’s there, but seriously middle deck left-center), #118 (welcome to the big leagues, bitch!), #125 (400 was good, but this shit was far), #147 (Out of Wrigley Part II) – tip – watch every pujols homer, they all make you need a towel
Holliday – #6 (how far was this hit?), #17 (how hard was this hit?), #66 (upper-deck bitches!), #84 (probably the prettiest looking one), #86 (they speak english in what?), #88 (are any of his homers barely-enough?), #97 (another one that looks really good), #126 (im not sure i can make it through this….),
#137 (bat-flip…),
colby – #9 (holy shit!), #22 (say what one more time, i dare, i double dare ya, you motherfucka), #53 (left-center! left-center! opposite way! fuck you al!), #59 (looks like an edmonds homer), #72 (tiebreaker, bitch!), #136 (holy shit!)
Luddy – #18 (crushedwick), #26 (upperdeckwick – also he doesn’t hit enough homers at home says Al), #36 (leadwick), #55 (beatifulwick), #57 (ohmygodwick)
floppy – #14 (granny, just watch it for crowd’s reaction), #100 (best…bat…flip…ever)
Stav – #7 (from his knees! hoffman loses some dignity…), #31 (crushed… sorta)
Freese – #27 (line drive! opposite field! foul pole!), #47 (hardest and farthest ball hit by freese)
Yadi – #8 (this one is pretty..), #112 (johnny cueto, brandon phillips = yadi power time!), #131 (granny) – Yadi hit two grand-slams, one off johnny cueto after “fight,” one that took a 1-0 lead, and a 3 run shot in a one run game – man knows when to hit his homers
Skip – #73 (crushed?!), #111 (“ITS A SLAM… A SLAM” – Rooney/Shannon call)
Craig – #93 (first career homer)
Greene – #79 (upperdeck near big mac land… seriously middle infielder…)
Jay – #127 (holy shit – that man can hit that far?!)
Winn – #95 (can you dig it?), #119 (breaks up no-hit bid and shutout for lincecum)
LaRue – #80 (definitively, his last career homer)
Penny – #38 (best served with a no comment..)
Carp – #138 (i think its safe to say heyward had no idea where this ball was when he jumped to get it)
holy shit i actually have work to do so i should probably start doing that…

If you want to see our longest homers of the year, they're
1. HR #75, by Colby – 483 ft (by far the longest Cardinal HR; second-longest true distance of any HR this year, behind a 485 ft HR Josh Hamilton hit on the same day)
2. HR #110, by Albert – 449 ft
