VEB Day 2010

I am by no means trying to become the organizer of said day, however It may be a good time to begin to discuss it since some from out of town may need to do some planning.   Add your suggestions and let's figure this out.  I vote for June 19th against Oakland, since I'm coming to the Lou for the Mariners and Athletics series.   If anyone else is already planning a trip, or has a different suggestion for dates, let me know and I will add a poll.

I'd like to come this year.

I don’t really care when, but I would like to see the Mariners in person.

Ya....that's the main reason I'm coming out.

My GF got us Commissioners Box seats for one of the Mariners games. We’re going to catch all three of those, and then the first 2 of Oakland. I just figured not many would be interested in meeting up in the middle of the week.

For purely selfish reasons

I nominate the series against the Brewers over 4th of July weekend, as I’ll be in town already for a wedding.

But not a wedding so much as my family’s annual July 4th poker tournament.

Possibilities

Sat, 5/22 Angels 12:10p
Sat, 6/5 Brewers TBD
Sat, 6/19 Athletics TBD
Sat, 7/3 Brewers TBD
Sat, 7/17 Dodgers TBD
Sat, 7/31 Pirates 6:15p
Sat, 8/14 Cubs TBD
Sat, 8/21 Giants TBD

I think that Saturdays are the only days that really work for people to be able to hang out and come in from out of town. Above are all of the warm weather Saturday home games. I think that we have done Interleague games the last two years and if we want to do that again it leaves two possibilities, Angels and Oakland. Looking at those games I agree with the choice of the Oakland game on 6/19.

The game against the Scrubs is not really an option

Those games have premium pricing and very little ticket availability.

Also, group pricing and single game ticket sales are not yet available except for all-inclusive areas.

I believe that we need at least 25 people to qualify for group ticket pricing which knocks about $5 off the price of each ticket. I think it would be great if we all sat together in one of the all-inclusive areas. I usually end up spending more on drinks than I would pay in one of those areas.

The MVP Deck looks like a great place:

AMENITIES

MVP Deck accommodates either 16 or 32
A two-hour, all-you-can-eat buffet featuring Hunter Hot Dogs, BBQ beef, boneless chicken breast, nachos, baked beans and brownies
Buffet begins 30 minutes prior to scheduled game time
    Budweiser & Bud Light*
Beer service will begin 30 minutes prior to scheduled game time and be available through the middle of the 8th inning*
Coca-Cola products (available throughout the game)

PRICING

Regular: $90/ticket
Premium: $110/ticket** (Add $10 to the Premium Price for Opening Day and all Cubs games).

http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/stl/ticketing/suites.jsp

Saturday games are premium pricing however.

Premium pricing

Yes all Fri-Sun games are premium pricing. Cubs game are an additional $10 on top of the Premium price.

However, the only day that makes sense for people to meet up with many of the out of town VEBers are Sat. games. Maybe the best course of action is to get a block of regular tickets at the group discount price. We can get bleacher seats for about $25 per person on the group rate (even on a Sat.) and all sit together out there. Also, we get mention on the stadium scoreboard if we have 25. The key is to pick the date so that we (I will volunteer) can contact the ticket office and find out the group rate and the process for buying group tickets (i.e. deposits, date tickets have to be purchased, etc.).

The key here is gametime

If the game starts early enough (3:00 or so), the restaurant option would be awesome, as the less adventurous could join us, along with all the 7-year olds that frequent this blog. We could still make it work later, but that’s hit or miss.

That said, I would be perfectly happy with doing a comparison of Ted Drewes and Culver’s.

Tickets: Buy one, get one free

Doesn’t have to be for VEB day, can be any time you want to go to a game with someone. I went to a “jerseys off their back” game this summer and bought a handful of the chances. I “won” buy one get one free tickets on a couple of them. The redemption for winning this ‘prize’ is to simply enter the code “JERSEY” when you order your tickets off of stlcardinals.com.

Limitations: have to order after March 15, and it has to be a Mon-Thurs game. Blackout days: cubs games, opening day, and all games in July.

6/19 for me and my Evil Twin

Any way, I like the idea of watching an interleague game, plus our shared birthday is 6/12, so the next weekend works the best on both counts. (For those of you not aware, my twin brother picked up a login a little while back, Rejuvenile.)

Realistically, I probably wouldn’t mind any of the dates, although the Cubs series will be tough to get tickets for and I’d rather avoid the CHI-STL traffic for the weekend of the 4th.

I’ve been to both games so far and it was very cool to meet up with those that participated. Last year’s post-game would have been cooler if not for the hike. Bars are fine with me, but I wouldn’t say no to some Ted Drewes.

I think that there's already someone here by that name

if memory serves me correctly.

Can Colby round out our new MV3?

Someone has "evil twin"

but they aren’t a VEB member. No “eviltwin,” “evil-twin,” or “evil_twin.”

Now with extra feisty!

Me too

But he discovered the term “”http://www.rejuvenile.com/“>rejuvenile” recently and he thought that fit better. Plus Evil Twin sounds more like an angry Minnesota fan.

Let me try that again

Thanks RR

for starting this thread this early. Although I don’t know my summer schedule yet, if this is clearly decided within the next month or so, I may be able to set my schedule around VEB day. I missed both days so far and think this is a great idea. The block seats would be good, too, as some (me) may have family tagging along that are too young for the bar scene.

Given the dates available, I think I’d prefer one of the June games. Usually a bit cooler then and it will probably fit well with my other summer plans. (Although my only games last year were the first weekend after the All-Star game against the Rocks. UNBELIEVABLE weather for mid-July in StL. We almost needed light jackets after the Friday night game.)

I'm thinking....if it's all right with the group

that I’ll close this poll, and start a new one with the top 3 dates, and then we can go from there.

All-inclusive tickets have dropped in price

Premium dates (i.e. any Saturday game) are down to $92/ticket for Homer’s Landing (CF) and Left Field Landing. Tickets to these areas are sold in pairs.
