Well, this is an interesting turn of events

It is unclear
with the article on stlcardinals.com but will they resign Mateo to a lower signing bonus? Or is the kid definitely out of the picture. He does seem like a highly regarded prospect and I would hate to miss out on such talent…

seems like there's serious doubts about him
if he has a degenerative eye condition, chances are he’s not going to be a pro ball-player.
Mateo has definitively been released – I suppose it’s not impossible they (or someone else) pick him back up for a smaller bonus but I suspect that’s probably it for his career now. Shame for him.

About someone else signing him
Keep in mind that Mateo being voided doesn’t mean career over, could still sign for less with another club. Already some buzz about it.Ben Badler:
Giants had very strong interest in Mateo before July 2. My guess is the interest is still thereBadler also had something else interesting to say:
For the record, I don’t think Mateo was voided over just having 20/30 vision. There’s more here than meets the eye, so to speakThough apparently, it’s not a cover for a scandal:
Luhnow said the contract being voided had nothing to do with any problems with Mateo’s age or identity.“Wagner probably had the cleanest investigation that we’ve ever come across,” Luhnow said. “There’s a lot of good feelings on this player. We still believe he’s a very talented young man and has a bright future in this game ahead of him if these medical issues can be resolved.”
It was a great selection of awesome.

Whatever happened to Sano?
We’ve got some extra money now?
Incognito needs to go, Shurmur needs to go, Avery's fumble-itis needs to go.
