2 walkoffs in a row Postgame Thread

Apologies, yet again, for causing the walkoff. I was watching multiple games and had a brief brain freeze that cost Carp the win. But, hey, I was right on the walkoff part - and for that, I thank Brendan Ryan. He saved me not only from wanting to beat the crap out of myself but also from getting the crap beat out of me by you VEB faithful (and maybe even the GOB).

Anyway, let's celebrate! Viva el Birdos!

Perhaps the length of the 'Booog' should be determined by the quality and amazing-ness of the play it is being used for.

I can just imagine a file folder on your computer, with a series of images titled ‘Boog-O’s 6,’ ‘Boog O’s 7,’ ‘Boog O’s-8,’ etc…

Cards have to pull ahead of philly

Philly won the season series and I believe they would get the second seed and host the WC. The third seed would go on the road to LA (at this point)

As far as the Col series, the rotation looks like it will be Carp, Waino and Pineiro. Another great preview of October baseball.

controversial viewpoint: Molinas hold the key to the Cy Young race

anybody see the new elias rankings?

Pineiro AND Wellemeyer are Type B (welly barely).
Glaus is hanging onto Type A status by a thread. DeRosa is barely behind him, just on the other side — Type B.

Holliday is the premiere free agent in the off-season. A very important fact, since we will get a first-round pick over other teams should he sign with another team (e.g., the Yanks) who sign multiple type As.

None of our other free agents (ankiel, khalil, larue) rank.

derosa and pineiro would likely decline arb, so we could easily get two supplemental picks. can’t see us offering to welly, and offering arb to glaus is doubtful. I wonder if we wouldn’t be better off with glaus as a type B — we could more freely offer arb to him if he felt like he wouldn’t have the type a stigma on him.

He's actually 7-9 this year, which isn't a terrible record

His overall record the past two years is 20-18. Given the amount of weight that W/L record is included in their formula, that could explain why he’s a type B. Plus he’s “durable”.

These guys are so weird
Cardinals infielders Brendan Ryan and Mark DeRosa had just settled in Saturday for their daily “man stew” — the nickname for an afternoon dip in the hot tub — when the call came to take groundballs.

Shut up, Fritz™.

by Alxfritz on Sep 20, 2009 9:23 AM EDT reply actions

and there it is.

The hot tub seems to be very important in this team’s destiny.

Witness the Weltschmerz of Skip Schumaker.

Midway through spring training, he shared a hot tub soak with Chris Carpenter and told the pitcher he wasn’t sure if the switch was going to work. He was struggling with the footwork, with the timing. Schumaker told La Russa several times that he feared “being a liability.” He spent most nights worrying about costing the pitchers outs, not being able to turn a key double play or flubbing a routine grounder that fanned a rally. He had doubts.

“I would always go to the ballpark thinking about hitting,” Schumaker said. “The outfield came naturally. … I was worried for (the pitchers). Guys at first and third, I was worried. Turning the double play, I was worried. I was worried about all of these situations.”

Carpenter started calling him “his All-Star second baseman.” If he made an error during a Joel Piñeiro start, the sinkerballer would promise to get him another ground ball. Oquendo and bench coach Joe Pettini spent hours drilling Schumaker during spring training and continue to do so during the season — most days at 4 o’clock. His peers see, as one said, “dramatic” improvement.

I liked the Skip experiment all along

After all, he’s much better than Kennedy would’ve ever been.

I bleed Cardinal red.

Thank you for making me Google "Weltschmerz"
…coined by the German author Jean Paul and denotes the kind of feeling experienced by someone who understands that physical reality can never satisfy the demands of the mind.

Also: I really love this team.

I never would slip you Mickey! It is merely rhinoceros horn. This makes the champagna bubble.

DanUp may chastise me for using the term incorrectly

at which point I will ask him for examples in his next blogpost. I’ve got it all planned.

Seems right to me

But I could get behind increasing its usage. DanUp would probably do something great with it.

That’s one of the greatest stories I’ve ever heard. I love Skip.

"We have braking news coming into the KSDK news room!

A report out of the Cardinals club house just now reveals an unnamed robot was taken into police custody after he attempted to make his way into the Cardinals training room earlier this afternoon. As he was led out of the stadium, he was heard screaming something about robot stew being even moar delicious than man stew. There is no known motive at this time as to why said robot would try to make his way into the training room.

we’ll have more developments on this story as they break, now back to the studio & where Hal says we may need our umbrella’s come mid week. Is that right Hal?"

Does anyone else hope Brendan is not involved in anymore Walk-offs until the postseason

I am starting to fear for his safety
