I thought y’all should know that in the Greenville area we get to see the Cubs play the Rams, which I’m pretty excited about. Should be amusing.
Who needs affection when you can have blind hatred?
I love how this was never dignified with an answer.

serious question for anyone who has pitched
(or just cares to venture a guess) how do you train your wrist to do that (the dempster glove thing) when you are trying to throw a small ball to a certain location. seems like such a crazy thing to do that it would distract his pitching arm — like patting your head and rubbing your stomach. seems like something would slip, no?
i played in HS with a guy
good pitcher, ended up playing small college ball. but somehow, he would hold the ball in his glove when he started his windup, hand hanging at his side. during his windup he would reach into the glove, grip the ball, and pitch. and he threw a lot of breaking pitches, so i have no idea how he did that.

just my luck
we have a volleyball match tomorrow. Due to some arcane rule that makes some sort of sense when you actually think about it, it is necessary for our team to provide food. I had 4 pizzas in the oven. I’m at my parents house for the first time in a month (I had thought about decamping to the basement, but it turns out its full of wet rot and spiders so instead I’m in the living room). Engrossed in the game, I forgot about the pizzas and their absurdly hot (unlike my apartment) oven which cooks things to a crispy burnt residue in 13 milliseconds.
I suddenly remember and run to the kitchen to find 4 seriously carbonated pizzas (bad) right around the time Boog was stepping up to hit (bad) and miss the dinger (bad). SCREW YOU, HOT OVENS.

Not as good as DeRo, but realistically, I can’t see DeRo adding more than 1 WAR above our internal options – realistically, his contract won’t be anything approaching a bargain. I can’t see a scenario when we can have Holliday AND DeRo and it be anything other than a bad move. So I’d rather have Holliday.

$5m I could live with
really, the ideal would be an arby offer, and him saying no.
I want the picks, but I dunno if I want to pay for him. If Pin’ll take 3/26 and Holliday 5/80, and we get a pick or two from DeRo, our work is probably done. Alternatively, Smoltz, Holliday and Calero, with DeRo and Pin turning down arby and a nice bounty in the draft.

depends if he’s an A or B. He’s right on the line.
Please take this comment in the spirit it was intended.
counter-intuitively
it might be better if DeRo’s a type B. Other teams will be more inclined to sign him (no draft penalty) so he’ll be more likely to decline arby. If he’s a B, I see no way he accepts. If he’s an A, it’s probably 50:50. So B is all reward and no risk.
