Taguchi in cubbie blue
well it turns out the cubs called up So taguchi, so we may see him in cubbie blue sometime over teh weekend series.
i feel bad for so, granted he's a 5th OF at best and with september call ups he's more like a 6th since he's past 40. But he had a great few years here as a 4th/5th OF with enough fans liking him to get a cards shirt with his name and number on 'em (i don't really recall any other 4th OF on any team that has a t-shirt jersey of the player you could buy at stores)
Love him or hate him, he was a great part of the '06 run, especially the NLCS. (i still think yadi should of got series mvp over suppan but oh well)
you gotta love his quotes too "I don't have any friends in Chicago, so I thought it was a wrong number." He's a true cardinals player.

I'm convinced
Hendry gets his jollies on signing former Cardinals to try and “show us up”. It’s rather comical really.

worked very well with a string of players from Ernie Broglio to Aaron Miles. . . .

It's a cub thing.
cub fans obsess over “cub killers”. Derek Lee was one as well as a ton of other players they’ve acquired over the past couple of years. Then, I think Hendy (who’s not a very good GM) takes it to the next level and signs players that actually make things worse.
Not that So is a bad signing or anything. He pretty much did what they figured he’d do and that’s fill a spot at Iowa. Now, guys like Fuld and Fox and Hoffpauir became more valuable to the cubs so So had to wait.

billy wagner, maybe?
One of my top cardinal fan moments…
it's Clydesdales vs Goats. Actually sums up Cards vs. Cubs quite nicely. -all4tookie

all i'm going to say is:
if he get’s a PA this weekend, he better get the loudest fucking ovation ever, even if just for the game 2 NLCS home run that knocked wagner off the deep end.

Oh shit
I think that NLCS was one of the greatest ever. When I watch replays of the whole thing I still get chills.

I will always have a somewhat irrational love for So Taguchi.
For all the obvious reasons. But I went to his fangraphs page today, and I was surprised. I actually had come to believe that my “bench player love” was a little over the top and that he wasn’t very good. He’s far from great, but he was a perfectly find option for a back up outfielder. He usually managed to get on base a something like an average rate, and his UZR numbers were never bad, and occasionally good. If I could switch in So Taguchi from a few years ago for Rick Ankiel from this year I’d totally do it.

+1
he had a combined 3.8 WAR in six seasons with the club (including 1.6 WAR in ’05 and 1 WAR in ’07), and never played below replacement level. those are certainly not bad numbers for a 4/5 OF type.
