Game 143 Overflow

Top of the 9th, one run lead. Don't screw this up Franky!

Star-divide

The GOB's finally woke up & decided the umps had screwed the Cards way to many times the past two days. It's about freaking time too. These umps are out of control. This really is a disgrace to the game to have umps this bad. I for one, welcome our new robot umpire over lords. They can't get here quick enough.

Get the win Franky, the GOB's have spoken.

Got to win a few games here on the homestand

Don’t want the Cubs to come in thinking they still have a shot.

We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there.

by KYCards on Sep 12, 2009 7:45 PM EDT reply actions

If you look at the tough upcoming schedule

The Cubs probably will have a shot. We built up the lead because of a cushy schedule in August and now the chickens are coming home to roost.

As long as we can take 2 of 3 from the Cubs

we will have this wrapped up. But I am a little worried about our annual September swoon….we have seen this before in 06. Cant get too comfortable. The Cubs series next weekend might be more important than we might have wished for though. But one series at a time. Let’s hope we can take one tomorrow.

We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there.

I told y'all.

August is only padding.

Tempt the GOBs at your own peril.

In all seriousness

How many blown saves in a row does Franklin need before he gets pulled from the role? I just don’t see him saving another game this year, and possibly in his career.

I like the Smoltz as one inning closer concept.

His split-finger pitch is coming along and he is the Braves all-time saves leader . . .

by MercuryThe on Sep 12, 2009 8:00 PM EDT reply actions

so I'm guessing you are all drunk?

that would be a good plan.

I for one, will never, ever forget the sheer beauty of Chipper Jones’s POV as Boog runs full speed at him. L O L.

that said, I think they sat Franklin one time too many up in Milwaukee. once you let the confidence get shaken… remove him from his pattern, and the goat-voice starts warbling… “My first thought was ‘why?’” … not good, man. not good.

also, go rock lobster. face+palm.

Don't feel even remotely comfortable

with Franklin as our closer in the postseason. He is in all out regression mode right now

I would actually agree with that, eyeball-wise.

Tony is going to stick with him though

and honestly with a 10 game lead I would too. I think he deserves a couple more chances to close out the game. If we are going to have any success in the playoffs (if we make it) Franklin will have to be in a better mindframe that he can close out a game. Athough a few outings like today and I will agree we might be in trouble and Tony will have to make Smoltz the closer.

We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there.

by KYCards on Sep 12, 2009 8:35 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah, it just seems mostly mental

I won’t discount years of listening to the sheer vitriol piled on Izzy. That’s got to be lurking in the back of his mind. Or the front, depending on how the bleachers population is treating him this year. He’s just got to get in that rhythm of a completely routine inning — it seems like his best mental moment came from throwing catch with his son.

Simplify, Franky. Simplify.

Me thinks this is what Boog reads after the games. I can just see Tony taking away Boog’s stash in his locker like a parent finding dirty magazines under a son’s bed.

I was trying to match the font on the cover of Pitching in a Pinch (for a somewhat old timey effect), but that’s the best I could find quickly.

They used several typefaces in the campaign, didn’t they?

oh ok, now i know what's bugging me

if you don’t mind nitpickin’

it’s not the font, it’s the placement. keep all the lines together, that’ll keep the focal point = photograph. got the right idea with the font running off the borders, if necessary.

That’d be tough to pull off with such a skinny pic, though. The lettering does seem like a bit much now that you’ve pointed it out. Hmm.

BTW- If you Google “play like a cardinal”, bacon pegacorn shows up on page 8.

i think it can be done...

move the “like a” line down so it’s on top of “perfecto” and make it smaller so it brackets his legs. then stick “play” around his knee level. it’ll still look good with different font sizes, imho.

chrome & iron fought a good fight & i was able to get through it.

what a trip. i learned a lot about life, losses & love which i’m grateful for. i’m curious about a few things though, how many creepy emails did clemson, andi & spants get after that? when fritz was killed & gave away all his stuff, why didn’t i get his CD’s? and btw, i can’t believe no one said they’d take mrs. fritz. and it’s nice to know i’m starting in right, but it’s more than disappointing to have my fears confirmed that i am in fact a gigered, sexless retard. but the pod cast spants posted at the end gave me hope that one day if i keep fighting, i’ll get out of this basement & have a great sex life.

Stacy is my favorite person ever

ever

"I remember once talking to one guy on the Cardinals and asking him what Pujols was like as a teammate. He said something that’s really special, if you think about it. He said: "Albert is so good that you feel like you let him down when you screw up." I thought that had to be the ultimate line that could ever be said about a ballplayer. I build my baseball team around that ballplayer."
