It's my birthday
I want a Cardinals win for my birthday! And a Cubs loss would also be a wonderful gift.
And Albert Pujols is RIDICULOUS!!

Honestly, it sounds like an awesome time.
In his autobiography, “Heat,” Gooden recalls his most vivid image of the flight. “At one point the partying was so out of control, the lavatory door accidentally flew open and there was one of my teammates, his face in front of lines of cocaine,” he writes. “I wasn’t shocked that he was using. I was shocked that he was so high, he didn’t even realize the door was open.”
"I usually don’t read other peoples sigs." -Cuttah
Not to pile on Thurston more (he says as he prepares to pile on Thurston)...
…but it looks like 1) he was out at first base and 2) he was out because he did a sort of stutter step right before he got to the bag. I’ve never seen a baserunner like him.

Hey!
Welcome to VEB. Ankiel is one of Don Tony’s guys, as I think TLR feels mildly responsible for ruining Ankiel’s pitching career. Ankiel’s level of production this year does not, however, merit re-signing him, in my opinion.
If he can keep up with this last couple of weeks’ production, I’d be fine with re-signing him to an inexpensive contract, but I don’t know if he (as a Boras client) would accept that.
It’s hard for me to separate the emotional side of the story with Ankiel—awesome pitcher who suddenly completely lost it, and then fought back into the majors as a position player—so I’m more forgiving of him than most around here, I think.
The first thing that a pitcher has to understand is that Albert is better than you.-- Jim Palmer
This is a damn shame.
After last night’s crushing loss, the Mets were fully prepared to come to the park today and completely roll over and let us win.
Instead we have Lohse throwing belt high changeups with no movement, Thurston booting routine groundballs, and Ankiel doing God knows what in CF.
Is 2 off days in a week not enough for the boys?

When we’re into the Mets bullpen in the 3rd. I don’t understand this
by cloistermaximus on Aug 5, 2009 12:54 PM EDT reply actions
yeah, I don't get this
we’re going to burn our bullpen today either way. the only question is whether we’ll do it w/in reach of tying it up or not. I guess Tony chooses not.
And we have an off day tomorrow...everyone in the pen could pitch.
of course…4 of them threw last night because Pineiro sucked.
we have him for 4 years @ 40 million
it better happen or we’re fucked. And that’s more important than a game in which we are already down 5 runs.
He's got plenty of other days to work on it.
such as any day that he’s not actually in the game making it more and more unlikely that the cards win.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.

this team drives me insane
We get a rookie lefthanded pitcher throwing against us… the GOB strike and we get the mets bullpen… but errors and lohse sucking have taken what i would have bet was a sure win and turned it into possibly 1 game back

I feel confident that this lineup can score 12 runs again.

LOHSER
Regressing back to the mediocrity he exhibited his whole career. With Piniero’s aura slipping, it looks as if there are only two real starters going forward.
.500 baseball won’t keep us in the wildcard race (and .500 will only happen in Carp and Waino win every game from here on out.)
pineiro has one bad outing and lohse is a couple games off a dl stint and you're panicking? nice.

Regressing?
He was hardly ever above average and his mediocrity is well…..average
hold up on the panic button
I didn’t look at pitch f/x data but iirc Pinata is a BAMF because of his sinker now, but his sinker wasn’t sinking (according to shannon yesterday, I had to listen to the game). More likely he wasn’t throwing it well vs completely forgot how to throw it.

And say what you want about Pujols' game last night
but we should have DFA’d Albert at the All-Star break or maybe tried to trade him and sell high. Now it’s probably too late to move him for anything of value.
Albert Pujols does not have "down" years. He has "~6 WAR" years.
he had no trade value
because he participated in the derby.
"How depressing is it being you? Would you equate it to being a lifelong Cubs fan?"
I've always wanted the Cards to say Pujols is on the market
just to see what teams would offer in return. Don’t trade him of course, just get some good laughs at the ridiculous packages offered

Albert Pujols does not have "down" years. He has "~6 WAR" years.
Pinata didn't give up a HR and his walk-rate still stayed down
the only thing that happened was he got knocked around a bit and Ankiel made some blunders on balls off the wall.

Thanks for the memories Captain Contract Year.
Is very bad to steal A-Pu's rum...is very bad.
i agree that is not a good practice
But struggles post injury are not why. That can happen to any pitcher.
i don't like this outing or his contract either, but this outing is not evidence that the contract
was bad. it just shows he’s been coming off the dl.

It's not just today. He p. much sucks.
He got eviscerated in may when he was healthy then, too.

Any pitcher (Wellemeyer) can have a good month.
He was crap in the month before he got hurt, and he’s been crap since. Kyle Lohse isn’t the 2008 version of himself, he never was. That was way above his head. He’s much closer to this pitcher.
Is very bad to steal A-Pu's rum...is very bad.
i think it's too early to say that he sucks. he missed a big chunk of the season,
had some good outings and some bad ones (at least some of which were products of injury).
