Game 109 Open Thread: Cardinals at Mets

St. Louis Cardinals at New York Mets, Aug 4, 2009 7:10 PM EDT

Pineiro Santana
9-9, 2.84 12-8, 2.96

Santana's strikeout rate is still low, for him, but his last start was his first game over a strikeout an inning since May, when the nosedive began. He's a good enough pitcher that he's still great striking out six per nine, but since every Met making more than the league minimum this season is living under the constant fear of tearing a rotator cuff opening a door or something Mets fans are justifiably concerned about it.

Joel Pineiro—well, I don't know anymore. No idea. Just keep doing what you're doing.

I'd like to see Luddy back hitting 4th

he went in the crapper as soon as they moved him down in the order.

Of course its probably because he feels more pressure to produce and stay out of Holidays shadow. Even though he was producing all July long like no one else in the league, adding a “name” as even he described Holiday can cause you to press.

Milt Thompson FTW!

It was an “exciting moment” for him. “Great baseball city, great stadium, core of the team is in its prime.” “Fun to be around.” It appeals to him, apparently. Time to assess Operation Midwest-Nice. Turn it up to eleven, please?

Pineiro vs. the Mets this year:

2 starts, 2 wins including a complete game 2-hit shutout, 17 IP, 1.06 ERA, 0.65 WHIP, .151 BAA, and of course no HR allowed.
BUT…his K:BB ratio is 0.3333. Only 1 K in those 17 IP, but a full 20% of his 15 BB on the season came in those two games.

Be that as it may

I’m sure TLR isn’t paying attention to that. Where’s Joe Thurston? Why not both Rasmus and Ankiel in the OF?

Also, just for clarification, is that season or career? Just curious.

that with the lesser teams we will be facing in the next month, we will be facing a bunch of no names that always seem to shut us down?

by Hollirosa on Aug 4, 2009 7:51 PM EDT reply actions

Gotta start somewhere.

In the past month+ we’ve faced Lincecum, Cain, Oswalt, Wandy Rodriguez (2x), Gallardo, Santana, Billingsley, Haren, Lilly and a few others. We seem to be getting teams’ aces. I’d rather deal with no-names. It does seem like teams are stacking lefties to face us. Ugh, I’d hate to face the Phillies in the playoffs.
