Game 109 Open Thread: Cardinals at Mets

St. Louis Cardinals at New York Mets, Aug 4, 2009 7:10 PM EDT

Pineiro Santana
9-9, 2.84 12-8, 2.96

Santana's strikeout rate is still low, for him, but his last start was his first game over a strikeout an inning since May, when the nosedive began. He's a good enough pitcher that he's still great striking out six per nine, but since every Met making more than the league minimum this season is living under the constant fear of tearing a rotator cuff opening a door or something Mets fans are justifiably concerned about it.

Joel Pineiro—well, I don't know anymore. No idea. Just keep doing what you're doing.

I'd like to see Luddy back hitting 4th

he went in the crapper as soon as they moved him down in the order.

Of course its probably because he feels more pressure to produce and stay out of Holidays shadow. Even though he was producing all July long like no one else in the league, adding a “name” as even he described Holiday can cause you to press.

Milt Thompson FTW!

Holliday feature

It was an “exciting moment” for him. “Great baseball city, great stadium, core of the team is in its prime.” “Fun to be around.” It appeals to him, apparently. Time to assess Operation Midwest-Nice. Turn it up to eleven, please?

Chris Carpenter is reminded of MV3 + Larry Walker.

Is there a fanpost/encyclopedia entry for all the player nicknames y'all use on here?

Us sporadic posters need a guide to the madness! :)

Pineiro vs. the Mets this year:

2 starts, 2 wins including a complete game 2-hit shutout, 17 IP, 1.06 ERA, 0.65 WHIP, .151 BAA, and of course no HR allowed.
BUT…his K:BB ratio is 0.3333. Only 1 K in those 17 IP, but a full 20% of his 15 BB on the season came in those two games.

OT: So I just got back from Cancun yesterday

Missed the entire Houston series, but did see the highlights. In other news, the resort I was on only served Dos Equis. They call Corona a ‘gringo’ beer.

I see Rasmus in the lineup, interesting. I need the Morpheus let’s rock picture.

At least, he’s not listed on most sites (Yahoo, ESPN, MLB.com), although he apparently was listed somewhere because he was in the lineup posted in the earlier thread. Looks like Ankiel is starting in CF.

In the past month+ we’ve faced Lincecum, Cain, Oswalt, Wandy Rodriguez (2x), Gallardo, Santana, Billingsley, Haren, Lilly and a few others. We seem to be getting teams’ aces. seriously, i'm not trying to be a jerk but how can a hitting coach who doesn't like oppo hitting have a job?

isn’t every players natural inclination to pull the ball? shouldn’t coaching players to go w/ the pitch, etc., be one of the hitting coach’s main jobs?

then again, maybe they don’t matter much

pick a start in may, june, or july

and pineiro would’ve killed to have 4 runs. and he would’ve cruised to a win.

We finally score for him, vs Johan freakin’ Santana no less, and it’s fly ball fest which is a terrible idea w/ this outfield tonight
