Mock Wainwright
4.40 FIP 3.35 FIP

For the second time this morning, the preview applet here erased all the work that I put in so I'm just going to say that Mock's been a lot better than his 5+ ERA implies. His BABIP's much too high considering the fact that he's given up just a 14.5% LD rate. Wainwright's terrific.

Saw this in last night's game recap

at Yahoo: “Despite losses the last two nights, Washington (14-13) can clinch its first winning month since September 2007 with a victory in the series finale Sunday or on Monday in San Diego.”

Pity the poor Nats’ fan. As near as I can tell no other team has to go back nearly that far to have a winning month. Even the Royals and Pirates have had winning months this year, and Baltimore did it late last year.

Does anyone else think we should still be looking for outside relief help?

Or are we resigned to having to move Smoltz to the bullpen?

Does anyone know if we’re looking at all?

FWIW (maybe nothing) Brad Penny just got dumped from the Red Sox too.

I respectfully disagree with you on two points:

1) Pujols was originally an infielder who was moved to the outfield.
2) The Gold Glove he won should solidify him as a 1B only from here till the end of time. Unless Tony goes crazy and puts him at 2B or SS in an emergency like he has in the past, Pujols should never see anything outside of the infield.

Bob Feller is THE prime example of a cranky old man...working with him a 8:00 AM has to be one of the most dangerous jobs in America.

by mtzxc on Aug 30, 2009 3:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Let me explain my sarcasm just a little bit more...

Technically Pujols should be a infielder playing the oufield playing the infield. Not just an outfielder playing the infield. I mean it’s just that more impressive to say he’s playing out of position twice right?

Bob Feller is THE prime example of a cranky old man...working with him a 8:00 AM has to be one of the most dangerous jobs in America.

Colby is like a gazelle out there

I half expect him to stot on the way to home.

That reminds me of the great Looney Tunes bit where the two mice, Boyd & Hubie, are whispering to the sleeping bulldog, (in perfect Howard Cosell-phrasing) “You are a gazelle, you are a gazelle.” “Yeah, I’m a gazelle.” “And HERE COMES THE LION!”, with Claude the cat approaching wearing a fake mane. Classic.

@ MIL
ATL
FL

MIL

we’re 77-55 now….we have seven series (21 games) against Milwaukee, Chicago, Houston, and Cincy, so we should expect 14 wins from there….we get to play the two NL East teams at home, so that helps. The series in Colorado looks like our toughest.

We could end up taking a run at 100 wins though….seriously. I don’t think we’ll get there, but 95 is certainly realistic.
