Game 123 Overflow Thread
It's the Padres. We aren't out of this game until Tony calls for Wellemeyer from the pen. It doesn't matter that he's on the DL or didn't travel with the club. You can't let the opposition know who is or isn't hurt on the DL. You can't tip your hand like that. It gives them too much of an advantage.
I couldn't find any wizard pictures. Here's a Leprechaun instead.

Smoltz+Garcia=Less innings than a single normal starter next season.
Garcia might hit 30-40 innings this season, and will probably have enough conditioning for less than 100 next season. Smoltz will be lucky to break 100 as well. Assuming you get 200 each from starters 1-3 (a pretty optimistic assumption) you still need someone to pitch 150-200 more innings in the rotation. PJ or Boggs or even Otto could still break out and take care of that problem, but I won’t exactly be heartbroken if Pineiro just accepts arbitration.

Did you all see that guy that just pitched the eighth for the Padres?
That’s the guy I wanted the Cardinals to get when they were talking about right handed bullpen help. Maybe next year…..
She isn't crazy, she's just not impressed.
Oh, and could you get Mike Adams for the bullpen, please?
I missed it
Inning was too fast!
"I remember once talking to one guy on the Cardinals and asking him what Pujols was like as a teammate. He said something that’s really special, if you think about it. He said: "Albert is so good that you feel like you let him down when you screw up." I thought that had to be the ultimate line that could ever be said about a ballplayer. I build my baseball team around that ballplayer."

I know.
Almost no one ever does. When I mentionend him before the trade deadline, it was, oh, small sample size, oh, there’s always good bullpen arms, and I know all that. But Admas has been virtually unhittable all season-his season started in June because of an injury. I think Jeremy Affeldt is the only other 8th inning guy that’s been better.
He probably wasn’t even available. Even the Padres want to have a chance to win a game when they have a lead in the 8th.
She isn't crazy, she's just not impressed.
Oh, and could you get Mike Adams for the bullpen, please?
IF (and i know it's a BIG IF)
if Glaus really can play 3rd again, why would Tony put him on the bench? that ball little fella just hit he gets to, yet DeRo just watched it roll on by. i don’t get it.

why would Tony put Glaus on the bench if he can play 3rd? DeRo is less than impressive at the hot corner.

Has he made any plays?
I heard he started there, but he never made a throw his first game? Has he been actively fielding?

acording to the DFR he's playing
he had a throwing error at 2nd in his first game

Sounds like he's ready to go, then!
considering how much this club has brought guys back from the DL like an asshole in the past, I’m fine with him marinating in Memphis until rosters expand and then just randomly pinch hitting.

Pujols has neither RBI nor BA lead now
So baseball writers won’t be able to figure it out.
It sounds crazy BUT
I really think Albert needs 2-3 days of rest (in a row) to heal up a little and to maybe clear his mind a little. If I were Tony I would sit him out a series. Maybe sit him for a couple of games vs. the Nationals next weekend. With a 7 game lead I think I could live with Albert getting a little extra rest right now so he can gear up for the final month/playoff push.
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
To be quite honest, I never want to see Lohse again....I'm sick of watching him come up lame in a non contract year.
Is very bad to steal A-Pu's rum...is very bad.
Lohse is going to be the most hated Cardinal here real soon
and in the next season if he doesn’t start to get his shit together. Going to be interesting to see if he can stay healthy for more than 10 starts next season and what might happen IF Duncan is gone.
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I don't mind Lohse

by Hardcore Legend on Aug 22, 2009 5:22 AM EDT up reply actions
I don't hate him either
I’m pretty much chalking this year up as being unlucky for him and being stopped by freak injuries. I’m just praying that this will be a one year deal and he will be a good #3 starter next year. Although patience will start to wear real thin for many and probably myself if he doesn’t start to perform to the way he should that earned him that big contract. Not too worried……yet.
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
Lohse has been fucking unlucky
