With the way the Cubs have been on the road

I would be shocked if they got a split, so I say 3-1 Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers. We should at least get a split against the Padres. Pinero and Carp should win, not sure about Lohse, and Smoltz, well, I’m excited he’s a Cardinal.

I think a 7 or 8 game lead coming back from Cali is within reach.

Carp healthy, Franklin having the year of his life, Boog’s breakout defensive year, Pujols in his prime and healthy > some amount of Wallace at some unpredictable time somewhere in the future for some unknown length.

smoltz tidbits

14.8% – hr/fb ’09
9% – hr/fb career
3.80 – era zips ros
3.44 – fip zips ros
6.19 – k/9 ’09

this is well better than wellemyer/boggs/walters/thompson. i could actually see it working out. i think his era and fip are pretty unfairly inflated. i still don’t want him in the rotation if we only need a fifth starter like 4 more times all year. we need a setup man more than a fifth starter.

Thurston’s got a pretty good chance to make the team….unless we’ve got a better LH utility man (and utility man/emergency PH is all Thurston is qualified to be on a ML team) he’s gonna make it.
