Game 108 Overflow
That umpire just gave the entire Cardinal Nation a swift kick in the groin. The 3-0 pitch to Joe Thurston was a blatant ball low and away. Joe Thurston then proceeded to swing at bad pitches for strikes 2 and 3. The 1st strike wasn't his fault but that doesn't absolve him of the bad at bat after that.
Still, as an umpire, you just can't screw up a call that badly.

Colby won't bat
you know Tony saved Ludwick so he can use him against the LOOGY next inning after Skip bats.
but why in the world does skip get to bat?
he’s AWFUL against lefties.

i've said it twice today already
but i hate our approach at the plate right now
we consistantly take the first pitch as a very hittable strike, then we decide to swing at a bunch of low and away stuff resulting in pathetic groundouts!

if you're an ump in the MLB, you gotta have come consistency.
i’m not saying get every call right, but at least be consistent. as you can see from above image, hohn is not.

They're graded.
There are definitely umps that are good and umps that are terrible, and lots of umps in between.

But then Christmas comes, New Years, contracts are signed, trades are made, free agents are signed; and then baseball, like the rose beneath the April snow will force it's way to the front again. because if he walks, no harm,
but if he singles, then ludwick has gained an extra base. of course you risk a DP for a linedrive out or a strikeout/throw him out, like what happened, but i think its a fair risk.
however, maybe it wasnt worth the risk since we are down by 2, not 1. i dunno. i dont mind the call though.

When the guy who’s had pretty much the same swing for eight years — hurt or not, under pressure or not, tired or not — suddenly does something differently, we ought to know why.
It could be anything from catastrophic to temporary. That’s my real worry… no one is indicating that they know.
I should say, though… that is not going to change how much I like Albert. His baseball smarts will remain impressive long after his body’s broken down. It’s a pleasure to watch him anywhere outside of the box.

3-0 and swinging
I don’t care if it was a strike. Fuck.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.
we have no approach at the plate
no discipline at all

One of the more frustrating games all year.
Go die in a fire, Houston.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.
I'm more frustrated
about the fact that with all these acquisitions, our offense still looks terrible.
To be fair
A lot of that has to do with the fact that Albert is going through I would assume the worst stretch of his career.

really?
i thought the third loss to houston in our last series was more frustrating. i dunno, but im not really that down at the moment. yeah, we lost and played poorly offensively, but i wouldnt call it the most frustrating.

We got 3-hit in a game against a guy making his first MLB start
We wasted a good Wainwright start
Chlorophyll? More like borophyll!
Whether this one or the last one in Houston...
Why do the most crushing losses seem to come against the Astros?
"Who is John Gall?"
its definitely bad,
but for some reason i have just accepted it to some degree. i dont know why, really. at least its not versus the cubs.

This isn't the first good start we've wasted
this game is no worse/more frustrating then the game where Carp had a no-no going into the 8th (I think) and we were still losing.
to be honest, it kind of is
him and holliday we’re a combined 0-7. that can’t happen if you expect to win the game. raz did his job.

And many of the other people who did not hit or get on base.
"If I prepare myself, my stuff is good and I'm going to get outs. That is a fact." - Chris Carpenter
While true
it is still MUCH more on Alberts shoulders. He is the franchise player, he is the run producer, he gets paid the most money, it is his job to produce more so than other players.
He failed miserably today.
True.
But I think we forget that Albert is human. He is one guy on the team. Yes, he’s the biggest guy on the team, but he’s still just one guy.
Nearly the entire team had a shit approach at the plate. So it’s not just Albert slumping; it’s Albert slumping when everyone else is swinging at everything.
"If I prepare myself, my stuff is good and I'm going to get outs. That is a fact." - Chris Carpenter
I agree with you
the whole team sucked at the plate today, but that’s what a franchise player is for, to come through when the rest of the team sucks. Which is why I feel this loss is on Albert.
Just as this loss is on Albert, there are many many wins from the first half of the season that were on Albert as well.
It goes both ways.
Yeah.
I just think we’ve been majorly spoiled. We’re all a little freaked by what’s going on with the mang. But some of us are being a little bratty about it.
I’m not going to assign losses to him because it’s a meaningless exercise when everyone sucked. It’s a meaningless exercise when you think about where this franchise would be without him. I guess I’m just going to cut him some slack because, well, he’s more than earned it.
"If I prepare myself, my stuff is good and I'm going to get outs. That is a fact." - Chris Carpenter
man
I just can’t understand how a guy can have the best half season of his career (quite possibly the best half season of any non-juicer), and then suddenly just completely and totally lose it.
damn you baseball, damn you to hell.
It fucking sucks. There's no way around it.
"If I prepare myself, my stuff is good and I'm going to get outs. That is a fact." - Chris Carpenter
so he is never allowed to have a bad game or a slump?
i understand that he is expected to be the mang, but this is a bit absurd, imo.

Only, Molina, WAINWRIGHT, and Luwick escape blame.
Pretty much FML any time Todd Wellemeyer touches a baseball.
And Rasmus.
He took two walks.

It's gonna be AWESOME...
when the Brewers knock Bud Norris out in like the 4th inning in his next start.
V, b.
naw, he'll shut them down
and then blow up the next time he faces the cubs.

he was pretty good in his 3 innings versus the Cubs
3 IP / 3 H / 1 ER / 4 K’s
at Wrigley in his first major league appearance.
In the long run, this kid may actually be pretty good. He led the PCL in ERA and Strikeouts I think this year.
I'm new to this Twitter thing, but I'm loving it!
Here’s an update re: Wager Mateo straight from Luhnow himself.

No, that’s an mlb.tv premium printscreen. The quality is, obviously, very good…and considerably better than that delivered under mlb.tv basic. If only they’d fix the blackout rules.
Not sure
But if it is inches, that means the plate is ~2 inches wide. Which is not correct.
Chlorophyll? More like borophyll!
The reason I ask...
…is that if the box represents a 17 inch wide strike zone, then by the rules of baseball a ball just outside the box is a strike and not a ball.
Well his last name IS Norris
We should consider ourselves lucky we didnt get roundhouse kicked in the face.
Norris's minor league stats were pretty good,
before you consider the fact that he put them up while wrestling alligators in a tank in the middle of the baseball diamond.
15=/=25
The Brewers just lost Cory Hart to an emergency appendectomy.
Out a minimum 2-3 weeks, more likely the entire month of August. Yikes!
She isn't crazy, she's just not impressed.
That sucks for him
But it’s not that big of a blow for the Brewers. He wasn’t exactly lighting it up this year, with a stat line of .264/.335/.433 and an OPS+ of 102. That’s almost exactly league average.

i have found the source of Albert's slump
Apparently David Cook gave up a home run to Albert Pujols in an American Legion Baseball game.
Who was blowing things up at the All-Star pre-game? Oho.
