Game 121 Open Thread: Cardinals at Dodgers

St. Louis Cardinals at Los Angeles Dodgers, Aug 18, 2009 10:10 PM EDT

Boggs Billingsley
1-1, 3.78 11-6, 3.73

If you hadn't seen his minor league numbers you'd be forgiven for thinking Mitchell Boggs is a much more exciting pitcher than he really is—in his MLB stint in 2009 he's struck out nearly a batter an inning and walked five per nine while neutralizing the home run, a fine impression of another major league Mitch.

The command problems are probably real; let's hope not-Wellemeyer can keep the other stuff around, too.

Yes the SEC does suck at basketball

I will not argue that with you at all.

3 teams in March Madness last year, an 8-seed, a 9-seed and a 13-seed (tournament champion). And we only really deserved 3 teams (probably 2).

Should be better because there’s a ton of talent in the region. Basketball is at best second-most important to every school except Kentucky (maybe Vandy and Miss State). Calipari will give the SEC at least one elite team (until he gets sanctioned by the NCAA).

Most people when they retire are around 60 or 70, Farve is only about 40. Think of how different taht is to the human psyche. He still feels like he can do his job, and the Vikings happened to want him desperately.

so I hope he gets his revenge. Especially since he had to go play in New York last year because the Packers refused to grant his wish and send him to Minnesota.

You'd have to be a fool to trade a QB to a team in your division without a QB.

It was the right thing, IMO

Favre really hamstrung that organization with his flirtations with retirement. It really hurt their ability to plan longterm. They were fortunate that so many teams foolishly passed on Rodgers, otherwise, they’d be in awful, awful shape.

if Pujols is 40

and OPSing .650 he should just deal with the fact that he’s under contract and can’t dictate what the team does with him any more. If they release him, fine. But he shouldn’t be pissed off if the Cards tell him 1st base and the 3-hole isn’t is by right, and then hold it against the team.

It’s like the Ozzie Smith situation. Ozzie’s grudge against TLR is ridiculous.

Favre hasn't been a franchise QB for several years

His 2007 was an aberration.

The difference btw the Pujols and Favre comparison is that the Packers shouldn’t have just released someone who had trade value, especially in a capped league.
