This has the look of good times

Since we traded for Mark DeRosa, I've been feeling more optimistic about this team. My feelings increased with the Matt Holliday trade, and the surprise of Julio Lugo. The team is finally starting to play like they could go places. We're up 5 on the Cubbies, 8 on Milwaukee and 9 1/2 on Houston.

The starters (with the exception of # 5) have been performing well. The bullpen is holding it together. The offense and defense are much better. Had you said that we'd be where were are now in June, I'd have thought you were nuts. I never would've figured that we'd trade for DeRo, Lugo or Holliday, and that the Cubs would run away with the Central again.

This excitement has been created by the wildness (and awesome walk-off shot) by everyone's favorite CF, Corky Ramus (er, Colby Rasmus). But, with this, I have a feeling like I haven't had since the good ol' days of 04 or 05. Believe!

I'd Stack....

….the Cards against anyone in baseball right now, but I am cowcerned about our 5th starter and the right side of our ‘pen still. And you have to worry about running into a pitching buzzsaw like ’Frisco in a short series. But overall, the whole herd agrees that we are in a happy place right now. The one thing we had been missing, over all, was come-from-behind wins, and now we’re getting those too. Let’s keep up the pressure and win, win, win!!!

Rah! Rah! Rah!

I’m with you, “zoomzoomj88”; there is magic in the air and it’s pervasive nature began with the walk-off at the hands of our Rookie of the Year candidate! Assuming that Lohse never recovers sufficiently to bring his E.R.A below a mediocre 4.00, we actually have only three marquee starters. Although I am expecting less than spectacular results at the 5th spot by the aging Smoltz, I have no doubt that he will certainly be an improvement over Wellemeyer and Boggs. I anticipate that he will be a sensation in situational roles from the Bullpen and that the competitive influence of a Hall of Famer will be inestimable for the clubhouse. Despite the need for a viable 4th starter and the need for a middle relief stud, I am a believer!
