I know
but the ‘stache is definitely making a comeback. I started this “mustache contest” thing to coincide with my department’s annual chili party and it just turned into something ridiculous.
I think you’re right though- people will rock the ‘stache, but include something else (e.g., tiny piece of beard, sole patch, etc.). I say – and our contest rules agree with me – that it doesn’t count as a mustache unless it’s completely unattached.

There isn’t going to be a trade for Halladay. All of the precedents have already been set. If you don’t recognize them, study the last 12 months of Cardinal history. We are changing to a farm based organization. Hoping DeWitt gives away money is one thing. Hoping he gives away his business plan is a fine wish indeed. The Cubs new ownership may have a play. The Brewers? Have no idea. We need to have a RH bat so that were not aced by the Manny Parras of the world. Hope for that.

If the Cardinals traded for Freddy Sanchez.
If Troy Glaus Returns.
If Mark DeRosa returns.
Vs LHP
Sanchez – 2B
Glaus – 3B
DeRosa – LF
Vs RHP
Sanchez – 2B
Glaus – 3B
Skip – LF
If Glaus doesn’t return
vs LHP
2B Sanchez
3B Derosa
LF Skippy
If DeRosa and Glaus doesn’t return
vs RHP
2B Skippy
3B Sanchez
LF Whoever
I dunno, if we traded for Sanchez and got Glaus back, we would be able to increase total wins on the team by replacing Ankiel/Duncan with Skippy in LF and Skippy at 2B with Sanchez. Sanchez also gives the flexibility to play 3B vs RHP should Tony keep Skippy at 2B, which gets the hell rid of Joe Thurston.

but Toronto is trying to run a business. They are just saying we can’t win now. They will wait until they get hope for their fans in future years.

Lopez got along fine with Albert
How about Shu to left Lopez to second, Move Rasmus to the five hole. Thats probably achieved with AA prospect and the salary attachment.

felipe lopez is a good name to keep an eye on. i will confess to being too harsh on him
in the off-season. i think he’s still benefiting from his .355 BABIP and his defensive stats are better than his history. on the other hand, he’s always been at least serviceable at 3b, which is where he’d make sense.
another ex-card name to keep in mind is russell branyan. both could be valuable “down the stretch” folks with good bats and at least serviceable defense. branyan is a much bigger stretch at third than lopez — he would provide comparable defense to thurston.

in fact, judging by the last time I saw Branyan in a Cards uni:
Ankiel ≥ Branyan

Question for you HC
At what point do you think Glaus makes a decision about his future. He won’t show before the deadline which makes him a FA. If the Cardinals take control of the division, are they going to invite him to cherry pick a few at bats in the playoffs for his 2010 resume? If he looks bad on a return, it will hurt him next year money wise.

I like your thinking

At this point there's a question to be asked.
Did Shelley and Chris have an older brother? A first born? Has he been seen since birth?
On days like this I have to wonder if a young child might have been sold. After all, this is ridiculous. Not Albert ridiculous. But ridiculous. Also, I’ve never seen Dave Duncan smile. I think during the 2006 world series pile-up he was in the dugout frowning.

Of course Dr. Paletta will clear her in the morning as a precaution, so it totally won’t take 6-8 weeks or require a DL stint, at all.

Boggs went 8 and only gave up a run tonight...
Wallace was 2 for 4 with a couple RBI to get his average back above .300 in AAA.
Mind you it’s his first good start in awhile, but isn’t it time to give Boggs another look in the Cardinal rotation? He was decent early on, and he absolutely can not be worse than what he’d be replacing in Wellemeyer.

Makes sense to me...
also it’d be nice for him to have another quality start with the big club to make him more appealing in a trade – of course, this could also have the reverse effect if he gets rocked.

i don't get the Boggs hate
It looks like he has good stuff, at least from a tv camera perspective. If his approach is at least serviceable, I see him as a quality 3-4 starter.

call me crazy, but...
I think this is THE year that we KNOW the cardinals have a shot at making a run for a title. Carp is healthy and Pineiro and Wainwright are pitching like aces as well. Pujols is having an absurd year even by his standards. If we get the lineup cleaned up a bit or add Halladay this team could be unstoppable down the stretch and thru the playoffs. If it means sacrificing a future #3 or #4 starter to win a WS, then its really a no-brainer.

too bad the Cubs
didn’t play today AND lose by more than two runs; if so I could have pointed out the sorta surprising fact that only five of the 16 NL teams have a positive runs scored differential.
Which is another way of saying that with today’s 5-1 loss, Milwaukee became the 10th NL team to dip below even in the seasonal runs scored / runs given up category.
The Cubs remain at + 2 however, so there are still six teams on the plus side.
Three teams have cracked the century mark, Dodgers on the plus side and Washington and Sad Diego in the negative.

I was thinking, man, Wright better not commit errors at third.
Then after today, it seems Brandon Inge has been voted into the last spot. At Busch. With Albert and Yadi in the lineup. Hooray errors!
