okay that's it
i’m officially done supporting duncan. horrid defense and the guy does nothing offensively. sit his ass as well. pathetic
I had a bad feeling
the second Al started being a prick about how the Brewers are such pricks. I am sure the irony of what he was saying was lost on Al though.
He was a little before my time
But as I understand it, Al was a guy who made a big display of himself every time he came out on the mound. That, to me, makes it even worse. Much worse. He is pretty much the epitome of everything he rails on the Brewers for.
I hate the way the Brewers act too, but Al is the last person I want to hear from on the subject…especially if he’s going to essentially act the same way on the air, and do it with a 3 run lead in the 4th with Wellemeyer pitching. At least the Brewers wait until they about have a game wrapped up.
by Merry CRasmus on Jul 8, 2009 9:47 PM EDT up reply actions
No kidding
Al was in his prime when I was in grade-school, and I still thought he was really weird and kind of a jerk.
The whole punching the glove and stomping around act was ridiculous and seeing video now that I’m older makes it worse.
But he says he was doing it to get guys out…so it was okay. No…no it was not Al. Go away.

What the hell did we save the bullpen for?
So we can watch Todd Wellemeyer piss away the game?
DFA this scrapheap reject.
Thompson's just as terrible
Dump them both, keep the 13th pitcher and have bullpen game every 5 days.

A) Strikeout
B) Strikeout, catcher to 1B
C) Foul Tip Strikeout
D) Strikeout looking

Frightfully timely blurb on tonight's home plate ump
Dreckman first got the Padres bench in an uproar when he was all over the place with his floating strike zone, something he has also crossed paths with Braves manager Bobby Cox over. Bruce Bochy and his staff on the Padres bench were then miffed when Dreckman failed to ask help from the 3rd base Ump on an apparent Chipper Jones check swing that would have been a 3rd strike. Thrid Base coach and bench coach Tony Muser and then Bochy were ejected when Dreckman went ape and all 3 had a heated argument at home plate where he tossed them both.
I don't know who's K zone is worse

The Brewers have won 8 games just like that this year
I call them luck wins. Without them theyre pretty mucha .500 team.
man, Wellemeyer is awful. I guess if your pitchers give up 9 walks, you are bound to lose. Also, if the all world mvp doesnt do a damn thing against you (.200 ba vs Milwaukee this year), that doesnt help either.
Yawn.
Are you tabulating their “luck” losses too?
by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Jul 9, 2009 12:56 AM EDT up reply actions
My shadow
dont mind them (TSCC and OP), they feel they need to protect the image of the overachieving Brewers world wide. Its that whole 2nd class city, undeappreciated chip on thier shoulder that keeps them going.
All I did was ask a question.
Would you care to answer?
by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Jul 9, 2009 9:13 AM EDT up reply actions
Fair Question
I have not kept track of that.
I will say that the loss on Friday would have been considered a lucky loss.
So isn't it at least possible that the games you've quantified as lucky wins...
… have been counter-balanced by an equal or greater amount of lucky losses and that your belief that if it weren’t for luck they’d be .500 might be inaccurate?
by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Jul 9, 2009 12:33 PM EDT up reply actions
Its possible
But I cant answer to that question. An issue for next year…
If you can prove otherwise go for it.
I havent been keeping a record, just a guy I am keeping a tally for here at my job, but some of the wins I have put in that “lucky” category are: Twins 2 error winning runs score game, Giants ball takes weird hop in bottom of 9 off of Hardys bat to stay in game, Pirates Braun bloop hit (the MRI game),and there was an earlier game against the Cubs at MP that was won because of an error, last nights game….ball hit an inch more up the middle or Molina having his glove a half inch closer to catch strike 3….
Yes its a game of inches, but luck is luck and I simply believe that the Brewers have been very fortunate this year. Their Pythagorean W-L is testament to that.
I can't prove otherwise.
I am of the opinion that you’re entitled to your opinion about the Brewers being overachieving to date. I’m also of the opinion that you’re attempts to identify “lucky wins” by some nebulous standard you have yet to define, is a load of crap, particularly since, as you’ve acknowledged, that you’ve made no attempt to determine if “luck”, however you define it, has cost them as many games as it’s given them.
The comparison of their actual record to their Pythagorean record is a much more credible argument and much less subjective. While I question your objectivity in general (because you’ve been caught passing other’s work off as your own) and on the Brewers in particular (since virtually every opinion I’ve ever seen you voice on them is negative), I understand the Pythag system and I think it’s a relatively reliable (if not fool-proof) gauge of a team’s likely future performance. Whether the Brewers actual record will fade to something approaching the Pythag record remains to be seen, but your anecdotal attempts to point out games you think the Brewers probably should have lost is a lot of nonsense.

That should be fun.

Seriously?
His changeup is one of the best pitches in the history of baseball. That ain’t garbage. It leaves hitters 1/2 between both, no matter how hard his FB is. You still see guys late on his 86 mph FB because they’re thinking CU. Plus he commands the shit out of that fastball.

my point is it's sooooo slow
they should kill it. his FB is only in the mid-low 80’s, so a 75mph change up shouldn’t be that hard to square up on & drive all over the park. right?

I HATE TODD WELLEMEYER
Got DeRosa. Thurston still sucks.
I don't know who the blame
Such is the case whenever the Cards lose, but I don’t feel they were outplayed.
well I think it is rare u can pin a loss on poor umpiring
but in this case the ump screwed us 2 innings in a row…. Motte on the 3-2 fastball and Yadi on the 0-0 pitch
The Redbirds are of the highest priority to me... As it should be
he added so much randomness to the game.
Cards didn’t have good command, but so many walks between the 2 staffs. The game isn’t supposed to be decided by bleeders made more damaging by shitty strike zones leading to walks.
So...
The Brewers score the winning run on an infield single from Prince Fielder, while Yadi ends the game with a hard hit ball with the bases loaded, and the Cardinals lose ANOTHER close game at Miller Park. What a fucking shock. I never thought I’d look forward to a series at Wrigley, but here we are…

That Wellemeyer pitched?
Got DeRosa. Thurston still sucks.
I still don't understand having Colby bunt...
Skip is already in scoring position with NO ONE out, and you effectively take the bat out of your second-best hitter’s hands. Albert is getting walked either way, so you’re basically trying to set up a situation where you can get a sac fly from Ludwick. Colby may have very well gotten Skip to 3rd by swinging away, or he may have gotten a hit and driven in the fucking run, or he may have walked and forced them to pitch to Albert after all. Instead, you put him in an 0-2 hole by asking him to lay down a bunt, he strikes out, and the entire inning turns into a clusterfuck.
V, b.
Yea just tell him to pull the ball and the same result happens but with a chance to tie it
Got DeRosa. Thurston still sucks.
Exactly...
Even if he gets it down, you’re putting yourself in a horrible position. That’s because if Ludwick fails to get the run home with one out, it’s up to Chris Duncan, and that’s simply not going to end well. Luckily he worked a walk to get it to Yadi, so it didn’t look like such a poor decision. But you’re basically taking the chance away from Colby and giving it to Ludwick, and if fails it falls to Chris Duncan. That doesn’t make any sense.
V, b.

Yeah, that offer is a bit high I think.
Although, if it convinces Pujols that we are trying to win so he’ll take a bit of a discount, I’d do just about anything.

Does anyone know where that list of Cardinal players free agent status and stuff was?
I saw it once and can’t find it again.
It was very helpful
Got DeRosa. Thurston still sucks.
Are we sure Tony called for the bunt?
If he did, shame on him. We’d have been just as successful telling Skip to steal 3rd off of Hoffman’s terrible holding runners ability and his super slow eephus ball.
Either he did or he didn't have the talk with colby after his first attempt
Colby doesn’t strike me as the “small ball” type.
got back from the game questions
Was the strike zone as tight as it seemed all night, especially with 2 strikes?
Why on earth did ankiel get IBB’d (Al input especially.)
Hoffpauir looked decent in his AB, Duncan looked pathetic all night.
Haven’t got on gameday yet as mlb will not load. but there were at least 4 walks that IMHO should have been ringups especially with wellemeyer out there it would go from 1-2 ro borderline ball and then walk.
Chuck Norris doesn't need a bat.
he just roundhouse kicks the ball out of the park.
so was i the only one who had problems in the 9th inning?
the site just stopped working for me & it wouldn’t even load on chrome.
