This just in -- the Cards' medical staff seems to be about as good as I am at diagnosing injuries and Colby Rasmus is pretty good. We're halfway home!

Wow
Kick off this post by noting that Thurston just swung at a 3-0 at his FUCKING CHEST!!!
He read VEB today and saw that I supported him (sort of) by saying, among other things, that he walks. Then he swings at a ball at his throat, as if to say EFF YOU REDBIRDNATION I DON’T NEED YOUR EFFING HELP!

No, no, no.
06 was payback for 68, right? The whole, Ford/Granderson, thing, the underdog winning the series, blah blah blah… so, I say we’re still owed for 85. I’ll take payment this year, thank you.
no way
the 06 WS was the result of two things: the Cards got swept by an inferior team in 04, so the GOB knew they owed us one. Then that chuckefuck in USA Today said “Tigers in three,” and the GOB were compelled to act.
The Kenny Rogers game was their way of keeping the Detroit fans’ hopes up.
Nope, I think we’re getting punished becase of some iffy managerial/roster decisions. The GOB don’t like 8-man bullpens, apparently. And maybe they were Barton fans, too, who knows.
hahah
ugh the ’04 WS was awful.
ok so we’re even w/ the GOB for ’06 one way or the other. what do we have to do to get back in the their good graces!?!?
Thurston first.

but seriously, the Wallace thing is pretty hilarious
the idea that he’s not ready is laughable. Ready as in what? Defense? Offense? Baserunning?
I gauran-damn-tee he can outperform Joe Thurston on every conceivable f’n level. 10 errors or less at 3b? check. Not running into outs at 3b? Check. Hitting greater that .211 w/ 1 hr? HUGE F’N CHECK!! He’s a better option than Thurston, period. And i realize I’m preaching the choir
here's the mindblowing thing
Ankiel’s OPS so far = .656, which is actually < Thurston’s (.674).
That doesn’t reflect the baserunning brain seizures, or the fact that Ankiel is not a defensive liability. But having both those guys in the regular lineup is really hurting the team. Imagine where we’d be with replacement level guys in those spots.

Liquor sales of any kind in grocery stores?
In the entire state? That’s just ludicrous. I mean, it’s not like Trader Joe’s is peddling bath tub firewater or something, it’s just beer and wine. I understand if certain cities or counties wanna go that route (I went to college in Irving, Texas, which just recently voted to end its dryness) but man oh man is that silly. You’re right, it would be a perfect match.
Albert Pujols does not have "down" years. He has "~6 WAR" years.

They sell 3.2 beer in grocery stores
but that’s it. Every supermarket around has a liquor store sharing its parking lot.
They got rid of the no Sunday liquor sales blue law last year. This legislative session there was a HUGE fight about selling full-strength beer in grocery stores. Liquor stores won this time around, but I think it’ll fall in the near future – and the way will be paved for future alcohol sales in stores.
"He ran hard, but he didn't run fast. He runs like he's mad at the ground." - opposing broadcaster describing Yadi's speed.
They're in Massachusetts
Any given franchise is only allowed to have three stores with beer/wine sales in the state of Massachusetts., and Trader Joe’s has 16 stores here (obviously 13 of them have no alcohol sales). Not being able to sell alcohol definitely doesn’t seem to be a deal breaker for them, so hold out hope CO.

it's because of the rehab
from what I understand.
It has nothing to do with the actual tendon replacement (or is it a ligament? I dunno, I’m an English teacher), but rather all the work they go through to come back.
I believe if the average pitcher who wanted to improve and had no need for Tommy John just did the rehab, they’d probably get the same results. But again, that’s just what I’ve come to understand from hearing random other people who SEEM to know what they’re talking about. There are evidently a lot of people that frequent this board that know more about the human body than me with my freshman year of H.S. biology class background.

he's just over 100
and even better, he hasn’t thrown a lot in an inning. he has a big frame, i think he’s ok for 110 – 120 pitches when he’s on.
i have no facts to back this up.
i'd rather a Jo-El ish 64 pitch outing
but, i’d like to see some stats on pitcher per inning, means and std. deviations on those, as opposed to overall pitch counts. saying, that i think 15 pitches for 9 innings is easier than 8 pitches, followed by 30 pitches, etc.

it’s not really the absolute # of pitches, it’s the amount of stress in any given inning. The only time the Brewers have seriously threatened to score was the 2nd.
10 pitch inning for the 8th
whether it’s crazy or not, it worked just fine. I wouldn’t have let him go back out, but there it is….
true, i'm glad he's still cruising
but it’d be a shame if his arm was tired for the next start is all i’m saying
with a 5 run lead it's not worth risk imo
you wouldn’t even be burning one of the more important relievers. but he’s a big guy and young yet so he’ll prob be fine vs the cubs.

correct
Saves:
Rule 10.20 in the Official Rule Book states:
Credit a pitcher with a save when he meets all three of the following conditions:
(1) He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his club; and
(2) He is not the winning pitcher; and
(3) He qualifies under one of the following conditions:
- (a) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or
- (b) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat, or on deck (that is, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batsmen he faces; or
- © He pitches effectively for at least three innings. No more than one save may be credited in each game.
He would have needed one more base runner to qualify for (b)

That was a terrible performance by the closer
he comes in to a game and throws what, 1…maybe 2 pitches? How is he supposed to get his work in now? Plus, he put the game in jeopardy by letting the ball be in play. If he had slowed down, taken the time to work the hitters over and struck out the next two batters he could have gotten his work in and taken a safer route to victory.

win and we didn’t have to use the pen (for all intents and purposes) and the starter was still going strong in the 9th. I’m fine with that.

yeah
he should be OK to pitch tomorrow, since he didn’t really work.
Warming up itself is work, but not I think it’ll be OK. Still would have rather seen anybody else in the bullpen.

it's Ludwick I'm watching
I think our fortunes ride on the ’wick. And our pitchers not running into luggage.

true
but it seems that luddy is heating up…. rasmus hopefully continues to be hot… and the pitching is set to be good to go

Ludwick appears to be back
So there’s that. When Lohse comes back at least the pitching will be solid for the most part.
Lot of holes still. But the Brewers don’t worry me at all unless they trade for a starting pitcher.
but it goes the other way too
seems to me we’re in another one of these sick starting pitching runs. Maybe Ludwick will go on a tear. Maybe Molina/Schumaker/Ankiel will get a hold of some pitches.
Sounds pessimistic to me
I’m ready for an 04-esque run w/ Colby, Lud and Albert as the MV1, ROY1, and dude1. Patent pending.
"I usually don’t read other peoples sigs." -Cuttah
Holliday as Walker?
As long as Walrus isn’t involved, and it means Ank/Dunc never start again, I approve.
"I usually don’t read other peoples sigs." -Cuttah
No dice.
Luddy and him are the same player. I’m not paying a redundant piece for a costlier redundant piece.
"I usually don’t read other peoples sigs." -Cuttah

agreed
i asked cause luddy is still in the rumors and i see no reason to make the trade if it involves him or wallace
haha i have no idea really
I doubt Mo gives up Luddy for him not that he’s heating up so I just don’t think the deal gets done
D Jones (or Jay)/Todd/Duncan/C grade pitcher
/overpaying, but I think it’d be worth it.
"I usually don’t read other peoples sigs." -Cuttah
i could live w/ that tho i'd miss Jones
wonder if (shudder) Todd is the PTBL in the DeWristo deal though

then it could be a good idea

That's not really overpaying all that much
Hell, if we don’t re-up Holliday, and he doesn’t go to a team signing two Type A’s, then it’s not a bad deal at all.
Is very bad to steal A-Pu's rum...is very bad.

trading Jones
would be a HUGE mistake and I suspect we’ve already traded Todd.
Jones may turn out to be a star and I’m not trading him for 2 months of Holliday.
When was the last time
The cardinals traded away a PTBNL who was in AAA and already had a cup of coffee at the major league level?
I'm really high on Jay
so trading Jones wouldn’t hurt me as much.
I just think the Cards have such a great window right now to take the central, they have to make another move — even if it takes losing a Jones & Samuel/Todd — and it has to go along with Ank and unc not starting anymore.
Maybe it’s not getting a new OFer (Holliday, Wells, Rios) If it’s getting a 2Bman (is anyone even on the market?) and moving Skip back to left, that’s fine. Taking those two out of the starting lineup is the most important thing now.
"I usually don’t read other peoples sigs." -Cuttah
I still think the best trade we can make
is Wallace/Lohse/Duncan/Jay/ LaRussa
for
Halladay/Rolen/Gaston
Rolen moves Thursty to 2b, Skip back to left, and Ank to even more time on the bench.
but hey, your proposal has a much better chance of actually happening

Stress Test of Mobile Posting
Success!
I’m not much of a texter, but the posts went in pretty cleanly. Sucks that my Blackberry doesn’t page down quickly, only other niggle was a wide-ass image that made it damn near impossible to get the cursor all the way over to the scroll bar.
Brew Crew fans are not very imaginative with their jeers. Mostly limited to them giving me and my brother crap about our custom BP jerseys that have our last names rather than actual Cardinals, butchering the pronunciation to try and get a rise. I reassured them that 2-3 more beers before diving home should make the rest of the pain of losing go away nicely, TYVM.
Brother is taking the return driving duties, so don’t worry about me posting while on the road home. Gonna sleep with a smile on my face tonight — GO CARDS!

What luck… Does he have another PA for the cards?
the cardinals luck at 3B this season is just unreal
First Troy Glaus goes down, then David Freese, then Joe Mather, then K-bot, now Derosa. Barden and Thurston were simply awesome in the first month, but they aren’t going to recapture that. It just really really really sucks. Here’s hoping Wallace starts blasting some homers and driving in a serious amount of runs in AAA
