Game whatever overflow thread

This just in -- the Cards' medical staff seems to be about as good as I am at diagnosing injuries and Colby Rasmus is pretty good. We're halfway home!

Wow

Kick off this post by noting that Thurston just swung at a 3-0 at his FUCKING CHEST!!!

He read VEB today and saw that I supported him (sort of) by saying, among other things, that he walks. Then he swings at a ball at his throat, as if to say EFF YOU REDBIRDNATION I DON’T NEED YOUR EFFING HELP!

No, no, no.

06 was payback for 68, right? The whole, Ford/Granderson, thing, the underdog winning the series, blah blah blah… so, I say we’re still owed for 85. I’ll take payment this year, thank you.

by fuegophil on Jul 7, 2009 10:00 PM EDT up reply actions

no way

the 06 WS was the result of two things: the Cards got swept by an inferior team in 04, so the GOB knew they owed us one. Then that chuckefuck in USA Today said “Tigers in three,” and the GOB were compelled to act.

The Kenny Rogers game was their way of keeping the Detroit fans’ hopes up.

Nope, I think we’re getting punished becase of some iffy managerial/roster decisions. The GOB don’t like 8-man bullpens, apparently. And maybe they were Barton fans, too, who knows.

but seriously, the Wallace thing is pretty hilarious

the idea that he’s not ready is laughable. Ready as in what? Defense? Offense? Baserunning?

I gauran-damn-tee he can outperform Joe Thurston on every conceivable f’n level. 10 errors or less at 3b? check. Not running into outs at 3b? Check. Hitting greater that .211 w/ 1 hr? HUGE F’N CHECK!! He’s a better option than Thurston, period. And i realize I’m preaching the choir

by kalmavet on Jul 7, 2009 10:05 PM EDT up reply actions

here's the mindblowing thing

Ankiel’s OPS so far = .656, which is actually < Thurston’s (.674).

That doesn’t reflect the baserunning brain seizures, or the fact that Ankiel is not a defensive liability. But having both those guys in the regular lineup is really hurting the team. Imagine where we’d be with replacement level guys in those spots.

Liquor sales of any kind in grocery stores?

In the entire state? That’s just ludicrous. I mean, it’s not like Trader Joe’s is peddling bath tub firewater or something, it’s just beer and wine. I understand if certain cities or counties wanna go that route (I went to college in Irving, Texas, which just recently voted to end its dryness) but man oh man is that silly. You’re right, it would be a perfect match.

They sell 3.2 beer in grocery stores

but that’s it. Every supermarket around has a liquor store sharing its parking lot.

They got rid of the no Sunday liquor sales blue law last year. This legislative session there was a HUGE fight about selling full-strength beer in grocery stores. Liquor stores won this time around, but I think it’ll fall in the near future – and the way will be paved for future alcohol sales in stores.

They're in Massachusetts

Any given franchise is only allowed to have three stores with beer/wine sales in the state of Massachusetts., and Trader Joe’s has 16 stores here (obviously 13 of them have no alcohol sales). Not being able to sell alcohol definitely doesn’t seem to be a deal breaker for them, so hold out hope CO.

i know that this is stupid

but… since we always hear that the pitchers come back stronger than ever from tommy john surgery… that we should just do the surgery at the very first sign of trouble… might as well

it's because of the rehab

from what I understand.

It has nothing to do with the actual tendon replacement (or is it a ligament? I dunno, I’m an English teacher), but rather all the work they go through to come back.

I believe if the average pitcher who wanted to improve and had no need for Tommy John just did the rehab, they’d probably get the same results. But again, that’s just what I’ve come to understand from hearing random other people who SEEM to know what they’re talking about. There are evidently a lot of people that frequent this board that know more about the human body than me with my freshman year of H.S. biology class background.

Regarding the Disabled List

and our medical staff that was being discussed earlier. Jeff Zimmerman did an analysis over at BtB awhile back.

The Cardinals are right about in the middle of the pack in terms of total trips to the DL and total days lost on the DL. So if there really is something wrong with out Medical Staff, it isn’t being played out in the numbers…

Saves:
Rule 10.20 in the Official Rule Book states:
Credit a pitcher with a save when he meets all three of the following conditions:
(1) He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his club; and
(2) He is not the winning pitcher; and
(3) He qualifies under one of the following conditions:
- (a) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or
- (b) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat, or on deck (that is, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batsmen he faces; or
- © He pitches effectively for at least three innings. No more than one save may be credited in each game.

He would have needed one more base runner to qualify for (b)

That was a terrible performance by the closer

he comes in to a game and throws what, 1…maybe 2 pitches? How is he supposed to get his work in now? Plus, he put the game in jeopardy by letting the ball be in play. If he had slowed down, taken the time to work the hitters over and struck out the next two batters he could have gotten his work in and taken a safer route to victory.

I can’t wait for the Ryan Franklin era to be over!

I'm really high on Jay

so trading Jones wouldn’t hurt me as much.

I just think the Cards have such a great window right now to take the central, they have to make another move — even if it takes losing a Jones & Samuel/Todd — and it has to go along with Ank and unc not starting anymore.

Maybe it’s not getting a new OFer (Holliday, Wells, Rios) If it’s getting a 2Bman (is anyone even on the market?) and moving Skip back to left, that’s fine. Taking those two out of the starting lineup is the most important thing now.

that's true about dero

i recall seeing a picture of him his first day with the cards with a heavily taped wrist

Stress Test of Mobile Posting

Success!

I’m not much of a texter, but the posts went in pretty cleanly. Sucks that my Blackberry doesn’t page down quickly, only other niggle was a wide-ass image that made it damn near impossible to get the cursor all the way over to the scroll bar.

Brew Crew fans are not very imaginative with their jeers. Mostly limited to them giving me and my brother crap about our custom BP jerseys that have our last names rather than actual Cardinals, butchering the pronunciation to try and get a rise. I reassured them that 2-3 more beers before diving home should make the rest of the pain of losing go away nicely, TYVM.

Brother is taking the return driving duties, so don’t worry about me posting while on the road home. Gonna sleep with a smile on my face tonight — GO CARDS!

Don't argue with stupid people. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. - anon.

BlackBerry

pages down by hitting B to get to the bottom, and spacebar to scroll faster.

my BB has been dog ass slow all day

i finally got logged in, but it took way too long for the pages to load so i stopped trying

You should

get QuickPull v2. It simulates a battery pull and you can set it to run while you sleep. It clears up memory.

there's a network problem in ohio today

so all BB’s are having problems. this happens about two or three times a month up here.

i’ll do what you suggest though. it can’t hurt.

Dang - two

or three times a month? That’s ridiculous, and not in the Albert way.

RTFM

My own fault for trying to be tech macho. Thanks for the advice!

Oh and BTW: technically this hasn’t been Solanus tonight, rather his twin brother. Thought someone would have caught on by now with the lack of WPA references. You people are slacking…

Sol doesn’t have a BB, and he insisted on scoring the game, so I took care of the commentary. Hope it was insightful, or at least not totally useless.

On my blackberry

I use OperaMini and not that crappy browswer RIM gives you. Page down is Space bar, page up is the e button.

I updated to the latest firmware (4.5) and the scrolling flies.

If your BB is going slow, it’s likely because you’ve got a ton of text messages or emails saved to it. Back those up and clear them out.

I use both

browsers.

done & done

thanks man, i’ve been hearing about opera for a while & i now i see why people kept telling me to get it

and i did clear that one message folder that i had no idea was full. i have a 8330 Curve & i didn’t know the message folder on the apps screen had every message i’ve ever gotten since i got the phone in november.

btw, my bro in law is the one who told me verizon has network issues every month. i’m on his work plan, so i can’t call & complain to verzion, i call him.

the cardinals luck at 3B this season is just unreal

First Troy Glaus goes down, then David Freese, then Joe Mather, then K-bot, now Derosa. Barden and Thurston were simply awesome in the first month, but they aren’t going to recapture that. It just really really really sucks. Here’s hoping Wallace starts blasting some homers and driving in a serious amount of runs in AAA

When did FSNMW start

with the immediate replay? They did it at least once last week too. Hadn’t noticed it before then.

Anyhoo, for those wanting to bask in the glory of another Cardinals victory, first pitch is coming soon.

I never would slip you Mickey! It is merely rhinoceros horn. This makes the champagna bubble.
