Tim Alderson, a guy with front of the rotation potential.

Lineup (courtesy of P-D)

All right handed lineup; Ludwick in CF so Stav can start in RF

1. Julio Lugo, 2B
2. Mark DeRosa, 3B
3. Albert Pujols, 1B
4. Matt Holliday, LF
5. Ryan Ludwick, CF
6. Nick Stavinoha, RF
7. Yadier Molina, C
8. Brendan Ryan, SS
9. Joel Pineiro, P

Ludwick is starting in CF

because Ank and Rasmus’s injuries are barking…

or so i’m guessing.

Either that, or Tony predicts that Joel will not let a ball out of the infield tonight.

is it wrong that i hope Stav goes ohfer 5 tonight so he can finally be put out of our misery

an 0-5 night would have to push his OBP damn close to below .200. If that happens they just have to get rid of him and give Craig a chance. Right? Right? Right!

by The_teague on Jul 29, 2009 7:39 PM EDT up reply actions

he is just plain terrible, I just can’t see anything worong with Stav going 0-5 and the Cards winning.

* sarcasm might be involved in this comment

by mattyfrommo on Jul 29, 2009 7:45 PM EDT up reply actions

because

1.) he is a Cardinal.

2.) it would be more fun for him to go 5-5 with 2 HRs and 4 RBIs than to see him go 0-5.

3.) It’s not like if he does good the cardinals are going to trade Rasmus for a LOOGY.

Routing against him just makes you more bitter every time he goes out there. I understand that odds are against him of sticking around the Majors for any length of time. Even as role player. But I don’t see that as a reason to rout against him when he does get his cup of Joe.

It doesn't really matter at this point

it’s not like either of them will have much playing time. Might as well have stav be a good fill-in guy for now, so we can win games.

There was a feeling throughout the game that it could possibly go scoreless into perpetuity. The Giants may have two good pitchers, but that’s pretty much all (even with new acquisitions). I wouldn’t worry about them in the wild card anymore.

question, if lugo does well (and is free) why not move him? i see kg coming off rehab friday and ending up on the roster. gotta do something besides send the stick down and bring boggs up.

not likely. KG is just as likely to hit for three days and then "relapse" as anything else.

even if he hits, lugo is with us till next year. KG is gone at the end of the season.

i guess it would depend on what lugo fetches, but if we got him for chris duncan, it’s because the sox thought they couldn’t do better. do we need a dunc-equivalent at any position? what could we get that would be better than blaine boyer, 2.0?

lugo is probably more valuable as a platoon partner at 2b and backup ss than in a trade.

Remember last year when Torre

did not make Manny cut his hair, but ask that he make it more “manageable.” Soon thereafter Manny did indeed make it more manageable. Makes you wonder why Torre has acquiesced so far this year. No way that ’do is manageable.

These are the types of reasons that I despise Manny. He holds out; he gets suspended; he won’t do the one little thing his manager has asked of him.

I just noticed...

that Brendan’s BA is up above .280 now, which reminded me of this story.

A grad student in the stats dept. at my college is into that whole sabermetrics thing so I was talking to him back in the winter, and he happened to mention that he knew Brendan Ryan somehow and that he was working really hard this offseason on his offense.

At the time I couldn’t help but think, “Yea? I bet he’s lost 15 lbs of fat and added 25 lbs of muscle.”, but here we are, in July (August soon) and Brendan’s batting .280+ and starting at SS (in St. Louis, not Memphis).

I guess some leopards really can change their spots, or whatever the saying is. Let’s hope it lasts for many seasons.

but just before the season started I thought Wellemeyer was for real, and that we should add another starter to bump Pineiro from the rotation.

I really don’t remember any of the good guys (except Snake Eyes, I think. If he was a bad guy, then disregard).

I only remember the villains. Sinestro, Cobra Commander, that one weird chic, those two weird twins, etc.

In short, I haven’t seen any of those characters, except Snake Eyes. So, no, I’m not excited.

correct in that situation.

Franklin got one with a 5 run lead the other night because the tying run was on deck in the eighth. If he comes in with 2 on, 2 out, and up five and finishes it out, no save.

Ball looked like it was out...

turns out Manny caught it at the top of the wall…..then tossed the ball into the stands

Boog hit it to the wall

Manny leaps up and catches it then tosses the ball in to the stands. Great pick by Manny

long fly ball to left

dan called it as gone. manny made a jumping catch and turned around rather matter-of-factly. then throws the ball in the stands. it was confusing. but out. misjudged the jump.

UGH

god, Manny has to make a slight effort now. ESPN will call that the greatest catch ever eventhough he barely jumped.

wait, why did people say it was a homer?

what is going on?

Didn't Tony say in his book

that a manager can effect the outcome of maybe 5 games a season if he’s lucky? So far, the 1 run in the game is on him.

When SoonerFan wakes up in the morning and reads the box score to check

what happened in the game, can he please explain to us all why we bunted so Stavinoha can bat with a runner in scoring position?

Hes at the game.

That was a drag bunt though

……notice he was running out of the box when he squared and his footwork was designed to get a quick break to first. It’s very possible this one was on the player.

Now, why in god’s name was Rasmus benched so we could get Stav in there? That’s an entirely fair question.

and we aren’t PH’ing for DeRosa, Pujols, Ludwick or Molina so who were we saving Rick and Colby for?

Kershaw is over 100 pitches now

Maybe Tony thinks Rasmus should play now that they’ll bring in a right hander.

That or he just now noticed that he accidentally put Stav in there and shifted Ludwick to left. One of the two.
