Or will he just have to get a run-of-the-mill nine inning-er?

we always knew he was a hella fielder, he’s just a slap hitter. Which is fine as long as his OBP isn’t in the basement.
As an addendum
he’s making some outrageous plays at SS this year. We shouldn’t necessarily expect this to continue year in year out.
Future Redbirds - tracking Cardinal prospects for Cardinal Nation
why not?
Ryan’s kind of a character off the field, maybe he likes being in front of an audience. Besides, his glove is why he’s on the team at all, his bat isn’t what kept him in the majors over Tyler Greene.
Plus he gets lots of in-game practice with the pitch-to-contact staff….
in BP I saw he was working a whole lot with Oquendo
And like, every other coach who wasn’t throwing BP.

You think the Cards have problems w/r/t medical issues, diagnosis, treatment, etc.
Look at the Rotowire news on Carlos Beltran:
Tired of waiting for his right knee to get better, Beltran has increased his workouts in an effort to return to the Mets sooner, the NY Post reports. […] Beltran said Monday the bone bruise on his knee has not improved but he has begun hitting, throwing and running in a pool to strengthen the leg and try to get back on the field. An MRI exam two weeks ago showed no improvement in the bone bruise, and doctors advised Beltran to continue resting the leg. Beltran felt rest was not helping and since he has not been feeling the sharp pain that he did a month ago, he is going to try and take the next step in his recovery and run outside the pool. Doctors told him the bruise likely is not going to go away until he can shut it down completely, so it would not be surprisingly if Beltran did not return this year or is very limited if he does.Sounds like a great idea, Carlos.

Well, that's one less Gold Glove winner in the OF this season...
Which means we should have someone new winning the award, and possibly two since McLouth isn’t that great of a CF to be honest.

But the truth is, who the hell knows, since it’s more about perception than actual ability.
Kemp probably deserves one. Nyjer Morgan leaps to mind.
FWIW, Rasmus has the second-best UZR and UZR/150 in the NL, behind Morgan.
I know Ras is one of the best this season...

It was sort of halfway in between
Truth is, if he had a prescription from a real doctor, it’s legal.
Whether the prescription itself was legit, well…yeah.
It's HGH for a professional athlete
What Manny took was “legal” — just not for a professional baseball player
"I think he's the best hitter of all time. I think there has never been a better hitter than him. And I know I didn't see them all, but I just don't think there could be." - Adam Wainwright on The Mang
HGH wasn't banned in baseball until January 2005
Ankiel got his supply in 2004, with a prescription. Again, validity of the prescription you can question. But what he did was technically not against MLB rules.
I also make the point
that at that point in time his career was in the gutter and I could see him grasping at every straw he could to keep it alive. I’m pretty sure all of us would do the same if we were faced with losing our livelihood.
True and I completely agree...
…but this mini-thread started when hittmeier said that Cards fans are purists and don’t like guys who “cheat,” but when confronted with the fact that the Cards players have been busted using PEDs of one kind or another but are NOT booed he tried to explain why their situations were different.
To me, NO PED users should ever be booed for that reason b/c NO team was clean.

wasent ank using before it was illegal?
im not sure im just asking. I think that if it was not illegal i have no problem. Thats why i have no problem with mac even though he embaressed himself. To me if it was legal and you aren’t using its just like choosing not to drink a protein shake or take creatine thats just my opinion though
Yes
As I said above, Ank took HGH in 2004 with a prescription. HGH was banned in baseball as of January 2005.
k then thats why i have no problem with him
and do with manny because what he took was illegal when he took it. Right?
That is true
…but the fact remains that Cards fans (as with all others) have a very obvious blind spot to their own players’s malfeasance.
BTW…anyone taking any of several anabolics was violating the laws of the United States of America, which are probably more important than the rules, or lack thereof, of MLB. If Mac took anabolics he may not have done anything “wrong” by baseball standards but he WAS violating the laws of the US to get better at baseball.
I’m not on a high horse here b/c MLB turned a blind eye to steroids and created a system where it was to a player’s benefit to ‘roid up…I just tire of the “There were no rules in baseball though!” argument w/r/t many PED’s.

but...
was mac taking anabolic everything iv head is that he wasen’t. anyone taking anabolic steriods to me is the same as someone doing heroine because it is illegal in the country. I agree that all fans have a blind spot for their own. But if manny is STUPID enough to get caught now and get the 50 game he deserves everything he gets. And i actually liked manny and still do not hate him
so you'd rather him hit a HR
in a 0-0 game?

Rasmus has the obvious edge in HRs
11 to 3 — R and RBI are close and McCutchen leads in SB 9 to 1. Rasmus also has 100 more ABs; it’s not unheard of for someone to think McCutchen will have the better season.
