this is what I've been saying all along

Albert has not looked right to me since the beginning of July. Weak grounders. Weak pop-ups. He lights up Harden and Garland to keep the average numbers crooked, but I’ve been vaguely worried about him for a while.

by Yadi2Second on Jul 26, 2009 3:17 PM EDT reply actions

like I said

Remove those two pitchers as outliers. And keep in mind some of those “walks” are in fact intentional.

We’ve been watching Albert for a long time… does that look right to you?

Albert is supposed to have the softest hands in baseball, and the best hitter's eye

But he’s vulnerable to pressing. That looks like a month’s worth of Trying To Do Too Much.

And of course, nobody coaches Albert, because Albert knows his swing better than anybody else.

They’re 10.5 games back from their division and in fourth place. Beltran could be out of the year, and they have shown zero promise of turning their season around.

Houston has a...

yes because what the Astros team did in 3 months during 2002 has a huge sway on how the rest of this season will go down

it’s just luck, SOMEONE’S got to win an abnormal amount of 2nd half games, they’re just one of 30 teams.

There is no way as good a chance they win the division as anyone else. They have like a 5% chance of winning the division according to most metrics (or, given their mediocre team, common sense).>… Berkman’s out for the foreseeable future, and we’ve just added HOlliday.

we weren't to know he'd be this bad.

his contract had more value to us if he turned out to be decent, than it would as trade bait. Also, we all thought Pineiro would suck this year and Welly would be a useful #5. I think most of us would’ve traded pineiro for a bag of balls on a salary dump. Pitching is a difficult thing to predict (Roy Halladay excepted…)

another thing i can't understand about TLR

he burns useful relievers in low-leverage situations. Like the 8-1 win on friday, he had fucking KMac and Motte pitching when the game was won, then we actually NEEDED to use Motte yesterday. And now Reyes is pitching – the game is pretty much gone. Just turn the ball over to Hawk or something.

Felonius Monk - bitching to contact since 2008

by Felonius_Monk on Jul 26, 2009 3:32 PM EDT reply actions

i suppose thats true

it’s just so frustrating that he kept welly in for TWO INNINGS after he should’ve been pulled, lost 4 runs, and now we’re practically out of it. If we were gonna use our proper relievers, they shoulda been in for the 5th. Wellemeyer was clearly struggling to get anyone out 2 IP ago…

Felonius Monk - bitching to contact since 2008

by Felonius_Monk on Jul 26, 2009 3:35 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah

we have 13 relievers so we can win games in which the starting pitcher goes 4 IP and gives up 3 ER. I was really, really mad to see Welley hitting in the top of the 5th.

Wellemeyer

When I saw Wellemeyer was scheduled to pitch, I knew we would lose today. I don’t know what is wrong with him, but he needs to go to Memphis and work it out. We have just added three good players for offense (DeRosa, Lugo, Holliday), and we have a pitcher who continues to pitch in REAL games as though he is throwing to a friend at the Home Runn Derby! Yet Tony trots him out there just like he did Mulder a couple of years ago. Then Tony leaves him out there until it is too late for the team to come back. We need to get better starting pitching and better relief. The Cubs are winning right now, so you know who could be in first place tonight if the scores stand as they are now posted. Yuck!

They are a team of streaks. They will go on a 5-10 game winning streak and take first back, then lose 3 in a row, then win 4 in a row, etc…it’s just gonna be fun at times and not fun at times, but we’ll win the Central in the end.

The Royals gave up a leadoff double and a basehit. The pitching matchups with the Dodgers:

Wolf vs. Carpenter
Billingsley vs. Wainwright
Kershaw vs. Pineiro
Kuroda vs. Lohse

I feel good about Lohse facing the worst of the 4 Dodger starters in the series. I don’t think I’m being greedy in believing we can win 3 of 4. I wish we didn’t see 2 lefties, but I feel like we’re much better equipped with Holliday, Lugo, and a healthy DeRosa. Carp and Waino will also go against the Astros, so I’m predicting a 5-2 homestand. Get excited…

but it’d be different to me if they weren’t rentals. Sure we could resign them, but that requires using resources too. I wish that if we were hell bent on trading all of these guys that at least one of the moves would have included a cost-controlled player or someone signed for a couple years.

It is stupid to offer him arb if he still can't throw

He seriously might get $15M+ from arbitration. But if we just resign him and he regains his value at 3B some what. Hopefully he is still a Type A by the end of next season

But I pretty much have memorized anyhow

Holliday – A
DeRosa – B close to A
Ankiel – Nothing close to B
Pineiro – Nothing close to B
Glaus – A
Wellemeyer – B

ankiel is actually a B (as of 11 July)

with very little shot at becoming an A. But his performance lately (1.036 OPS since the ratings were compiled) couldn’t have hurt.

Pineiro was very close to “B”, basically just needs to be rated better than 1 more guy to make it.

Welley is actually a high B with a shot at being an A… wow…

Amazingly, Elias rates Carlos Lee above Albert Pujols. That’s awesome.

Back in 2003, March

I had just graduated from Boot Camp and was staying at the Philly Omni Hotel with some of my squad. We went to a pub not far from the hotel and were shooting pool upstairs, above the bar area. About 30-45 mins after we got there, a big ruckus started down below. Before we knew it, the Police, Paramedics, and Fire personnel were out front and we couldnt get out. Im not sure what happened to start the brawl, but a man was beaten to death inside the bar, and another died shortly after being placed on a gurney. Philly is not a town I ever want to live in.

C'mon you Redbirds, lets prove em' wrong, again!

Guys, don't worry. Wellemeyer felt good and had control of all his pitches. Everything is fine

“On Utley’s hit, I thought it was a popup and it went out to right,” Wellemeyer said. “Against Howard, I threw a 2-2 fastball, which was a two-seamer down the middle. He caught it.”

Wellemeyer said he tweaked his calf before coming out in the sixth, but was all right. What bothered him was the result.

“I still felt very good,” Wellemeyer said. “I felt like I had command of all my pitches. I got ahead of a lot of guys. The line doesn’t look good. We lost the game. As far as mechanics, I felt very good.”
