Decent AB for Snazzy Razzy
Did Lugo just pull a Cerrano?
I'm the guy that does his job, you must be the other guy.
If we don't work out an extension or re-sign Holliday through arb
we better get down on some nice draft picks, and to start let’s sign ours from this year.

We picked the best talent available to us in the draft in 2008
I’m sure when Lunhow and co. choose Wallace the premise was he might never see Busch in a Cardinals uniform. You sign talent like that even if you can’t use it yourself, someone else will need that piece eventually.

Tony: Back to the bench, Cody! You were holding down the fort until Rick had two good games!
Colby: Wait, so 2 good games for Rick>several months of good play from me? Oh, and my name is Colby, not Cody.
Tony: No, it’s Cody, I’m sure of it. Plus, you’re not ready to handle the pressure yet, even if you did play better for, well the whole season. Rick has experience, you don’t.
I hope this is not the case.

Wood River is the worst smelling town ever. Not the people, just the town.
Canton, IL has the worst smelling people.

It's no canton
Canton is down river of Peoria which smells like ham and vodka from the distilleries. Canton gets Peoria’s waste.
So Canton smells like the crap from ham and vodka.

the fact is
we still have enough left in the farm system to make a trade for a decent starting pitcher. A Doug Davis type or better
I don’t think we should, but the fact that we still have enough pieces to make a move like that, means it isn’t empty
if we can make it to the end of the year with Welly not sucking too bad
he can go to the pen for the playoffs. I know I wouldn’t want to face Carp/Wain/Pinata/Lohse in a five or seven game series…..
How many of those are good?
Really, really good? Most seem to be the “meh” sort of major leaguer, useful pieces, but nothing special.
(Exception of Shelby Miller, who hasn’t signed, AFAIK).
1. You sound like a jerk.
2. Few players in the minors are “can’t miss” superstuds- if they were that good they would be in the majors so,
3. They are judged on potential, and the list above (plus garcia) includes four pitchers who have the potential to become average to above average ML starters, one very good OF spec, one very good MI bat and one good MI glove, among many others. This is still one of the better systems in baseball.
Decrease runs scored?
Maybe.
Decrease winning? Never seen that proven.
-SFTU
What about Roberto De La Cruz?
Bad start in rookie league but he’s only 17
we gave him 1 mil last year out of the dominican
The poster formerly known as JoeyBombs.

Pujols-Holliday-Luddy may very well be better for the next few months than those three ever were
Hate the trade, but enjoy the results. They’re gonna be suhweet.
Nah
OPS: 1.072 Apu, Edmonds 1.061, Rolo 1.007. All of them .400+ OB. Plus Rolen and Edmonds were gold glovers at two premium defensive positions.
Apu-Holliday-Luddy is still sick to the max though.

Whats amazing
is how good that team was while barely having a dominant starting pitcher.
that was a fun summer.
"I usually don’t read other peoples sigs." -Cuttah
Pujols is so much better now than he was then
And there’s no reason to think that Luddy and Holliday can’t both post 1.000+ OPSes for the rest of the year.
Hell, Luddy’s OPS in July is 1.130. Holliday’s is .986.
This could be some serious MV3 nonsense right here.
Each of the MV3 played gold-glove defense as well.
We have the one, and the other two are above average, but our MV3 is really Carp, Waino, and Pineiro.
Decrease runs scored?
Maybe.
Decrease winning? Never seen that proven.

And we have two CF's
One who runs through walls, and one who doesn’t have to. Both great guys to have on your team.
That's the thing...
pitching like this, with a lineup like this….- Welley, and we’re seriously talking BEST.TEAM.IN.BASEBALL.
I think Pujols/Rolen/Edmonds > Pujols/Holliday/Ludwick
but Carp/Waino/Pineiro/Lohse/Welly > Carp/Betty/Soup/Woody/Matty Mo, I think.
And I think I like our bullpen better this year, overall.
I like Carp/WW/Pin/Lohse
but really Welley throws that rotation under the bus. I might need to go check, but Matty Mo, and hell, even Marquis , were never as bad that year as Welley is now.
Top 3 of this rotation is much better, but the other 2 were a big reason that team won 100+
* sarcasm might be involved in this comment
by mattyfrommo on Jul 24, 2009 11:17 PM EDT up reply actions
ofcourse now that I look back on it
there is a chance that Marquis really was Welley bad
* sarcasm might be involved in this comment
It's possible to come close to that...
Holliday and Pujols can win a gold glove and with all three in the line-up heating up this could be a beautiful end to the year.
"Rasmus doesn't hit lefties. Instead he bashes them over the head with their own bleeding arm he just raced to the mound to rip off before the ball arrives to the plate. He then smashes that baseball with the pitchers bloody arm over the wall because he does not hit lefites he bashes them." Ted Lilly
I still have that mag.
I miss them, but:
Schu/lugo
DeRo/rasmus
Pujol
holliday
ludwick
rasmus/dero
yadi
raysn
carp/wain/joel/lohse/me
is just as good as 2004. In fact, the rotation is much better.

How many noticed
Colby on the top step mid 7th, hat on. Holiday was tired from traveling all day and Tony was going to give him a break. Albert got out so Holiday didn’t get his last at bat. Tony call Colby back. Quize
1) Was Holiday any less tired?
2) Was Tony avoiding any possible appearance of defensive platooning?
3) Did he suddenly just want to see one more at bat?
4) Was he not worried about how the rookie might feel?
5) All of the above
OK I'lll bite......QUIZE
I DVR’d the game, and you’ve really been pissing me off, so I looked. Started at the top of the7th, and scored it.
Lugo 3B 3-2 count
Dero 7F 2-1 1 RBI
Pujols BB 4-0
Holliday 2B Pujols to 3rd (First pitch. He got the memo)
LUD 5-3 no one advances. (See above)
Yaddi BB 4-0 Bases Loaded
Ank weak single to third (2-2 count) Albert scores bases loaded, still 2 outs. I have yet to have a Colby sighting.
BRyan 9F 2-1 count
End of inning.

I'm the guy that does his job, you must be the other guy.
Funny...
We fill 3B and LF with good players and we have a team.
Who would have saw that coming?
"Rasmus doesn't hit lefties. Instead he bashes them over the head with their own bleeding arm he just raced to the mound to rip off before the ball arrives to the plate. He then smashes that baseball with the pitchers bloody arm over the wall because he does not hit lefites he bashes them." Ted Lilly
Oy
Aramis and Lee both hit homers for the Cubs today.
It’s gonna be one hell of a race for the rest of the year. I’m psyched.
I'm concerned about the Cubs, too...
But I would be pretty worried about Ted Lilly’s shoulder if I were them. You never know when Harden is going down, so losing Lilly would be a major hit. I wonder if it’s a one start thing or if it’s more serious…

Kernshaw currently has the 8th spot. But if he doesn’t pitch another inning he’ll drop out of the top 10 and our two guys go up.

An NL Central executive got off a plane Friday and heard that the Cardinals got Holliday.
“Wow!” he sighed into the phone. “That’s a heck of a top three, with [Chris] Carpenter and [Adam] Wainwright.”
No, not Roy Halladay. Matt Holliday.
“Oh,” he said. “I feel better.”

I was thinking about it tonight
and it creept into my wandering mind that Pineiro might be my favorite Cardinals player this year. I don’t think this disorder is yet recognized by the DSM-IV, but should I seek psychiatric help? In all seriousness, though, this story is just incredible—from a broken down, worthless pitcher resented and mocked by the fans, to performing as one of the very elite pitchers in the league.
And how about our young Ace Danny Haren?
He completes that quad-set by leading the league.
