Well there's 7 games...
So we can’t split. And you have to concede Wellemeyer’s start on Sunday, so you’re 0-1 already. So in order to win more than we lose, we need to go 4-2 in the other 6. That seems tough. I’d be pretty thrilled to go 3-4 in this stretch…

New to the Board
Since we are in a rain delay, I figured I would introduce myself. I’ve been following on the board for some time now, but would like to become a little more active in posting. I came out of the womb a Cardinals fan and have lived and died by Cardinals baseball since then. I live in Arkansas right now and make the trip to St. Louis 2-3 series per year to watch them play. However, I never miss a gam on TV unless there are extreme circumstances. I love hashing out situational baseball during the games and hopefully I can bring something to the table here on the board. I look forward to chatting with you guys and becoming more involved.

Any of you watch SNL?
There was an episode this season (one of the few I watch) that had Bradley Cooper on it. It was excellent. It had the ’I’m On a Boat’ digital skit as well as the “Have Sex With Your Wife” bit.
But there was another skit where they were all drinking and singing that song “I Wanna Be Next To You”.
I can’t find it online. Anyone know where to go? I tried Hulu.

i thought that i would like it… it plays decently, but there are too many stupid mistakes… for instance… they bragged about how they had improved the progressive lighting from the previous year, but they screwed it up and now night games start in the dark… it gets dark in the 3rd inning of a game that starts at 4 oclock…it seems like nobody who has ever actually watched a baseball game were in charge of designing it

The first thing that a pitcher has to understand is that Albert is better than you.-- Jim Palmer
I've never been able to get into the Mogul series.
I had a copy a couple of years ago but it seemed a little bit restrictive.
OOTP is really easy to customise. My fictional leagues in the past have been some of my more enjoyable games. FaceGen pictures make everything very shiny.
I’m about 71-45 with this year’s Cardinals squad, minus a few trades. The weird thing is Albert leads the league by huge margins in most categories (AVG, BB, H, 2B, OBP, R RC/27, VORP) yet has only 17 HR through mid-August (Khalil has 23 and Ludwick has 30).

Halladay and Holliday
Just trying to clear this up…I’m actually studying for the Arkansas Bar Exam as we speak and have not had time to track all of the “rumors.” I read the ESPN article and all P-D articles regarding the Holliday trade potential today. However, I heard that ESPN Radio had us giving Wallace and other prospects to Toronto for Halladay, Wells and Cash. Can anyone confirm this, have anymore information?
Go Cards!
GolfHog44
that has to be just a rumor.
there is no way in hell that we trade for any package with wells.

I'd imagine
it’s either they keep his salary and the other teams sends more prospects, or the other team keeps some prospects, but gets his salary.

Go Cards!
GolfHog44
huh.
if toronto views wells as a negative value, that might reduce the package we gave to offer, but i think the overall consensus is that the cardinals are going to play second fiddle to the phillies in the halladay sweepstakes.
The first thing that a pitcher has to understand is that Albert is better than you.-- Jim Palmer
That string of...
$20 odd million per year from 2011 to 2014 is just brutal. I’d wring Ricciardi’s neck if I owned that team.
here's a good article about wells' trade value.
The first thing that a pitcher has to understand is that Albert is better than you.-- Jim Palmer
I think they overstate...
the burden of his contract and understate the value of Halladay.
First of all, Wells is earning $12.5 million in 2010, not $21 million.
Second, he’s better than a .5 war player going forward. Get him out of CF and he’ll be a latter stage Luis Gonzalez type – 1-2 war.
Third, the value of wins isn’t linear. Halladay gives us the priceless marginal wins needed for a championship. A rotation of Carp/Halladay/Waino/Pineiro/Lohse wins the pennant.
Fourth, this focus on surplus value gets taken too far. If you pay me 50 cents and get 50 cents of production, that’s terrible. Period.
Also, it assumes that they won't take any of that contract
Texas paid 30% of ARod’s contract just to get rid of him.
If They paid half of Wells contract, I’d consider it…if it got us Halladay.

I never got into a Link to the Past
My first gaming system of any kind was the N64. OoT remains the only video game which I can actually get nostalgia thinking about. Epic stuff.
N64 was your first?
I had the original nintendo when I was about 8, and SNES when I was like 12 or 13.
Super Nintendo still probably has the best games I ever played:
LoZ: A Link To The Past
Chrono Trigger
Super Metroid
Final Fantasy 3
Super Mario World
Earthbound
Super Mario Kart
So many excellent games for that system.
Parents wouldn't let me get a video system until the 64
So I missed out on NES and SNES for the most part.
You forgot Turtles in Time, though.

you are right. We probably have to take the first 2 to win the series since Wellemeyer is going in game 3. Maybe we can score a ton of runs off of Blanton, but he has been on a roll. I think our best chance to take a game is in game 2. The starter there has technically been replaced by Pedro. You can’t be that good if Pedro is replacing you. Also, Pineiro has been rolling, so maybe he can throw another gem and we take game 1 as well. Should be a good series. I just remember them beating us 20-2 last year.

as dan so adroitly informed us,
yes, their combined record is 15-4. i liked how he talked up blanton as being amazing, and not the other two, who are arguably better pitchers.
The first thing that a pitcher has to understand is that Albert is better than you.-- Jim Palmer
as i recall
blanton was amazing against us… or rather, we were crappy against him
"He ran hard, but he didn't run fast. He runs like he's mad at the ground." - opposing broadcaster describing Yadi's speed.
blanton pitched to us well,
but i thought he was a league average pitcher…happ is much better, or at least has the potential to be.
The first thing that a pitcher has to understand is that Albert is better than you.-- Jim Palmer
you're right
but league average – or worse than average – seems to be what the Cards struggle against. And left-handers, of course.
"He ran hard, but he didn't run fast. He runs like he's mad at the ground." - opposing broadcaster describing Yadi's speed.
I have a rule this year...
If the starter has a 7+ ERA, we won’t score. If the pitcher has a sub-3 ERA, we won’t score. If between 3 and 7, we win.

What's the verdict on this game, folks?
Have they called it?

If this game is called…does it technically end Wainwright’s streak of pitching into the 7th inning? What has it been, like 16 straight starts or something like that?
