Carlton Fisk, most likely
Carlton Ernest “Pudge” Fisk (born December 26, 1947 in Bellows Falls, Vermont) is a former Major League Baseball catcher who played for 24 years with both the Boston Red Sox (1969, 1971-1980) and Chicago White Sox (1981-1993). Known by the nickname “Pudge” due to his 6’2", 220 lb frame

did anyone else notice Al’s incorrect statement about Ludwick’s called third strike passed ball? “Just think, if Albert hadn’t been thrown out you’d have runners on 1st and 2nd with no out”……too bad there’d be a runner on 1st if Albert HADN’T gone…thus an automatic out at the plate. Maybe he meant if Albert had made it to 2nd? …I hope thats what he meant

Whatever Happened To Being TOUGHER...
…on your own son, or the son of your coaches, so as to make it absolutely clear that you aren’t playing favorites?
I’m just saying.
Remember J-Rod?
It turned out that he had a HUGE hole in his swing, and as soon as opposing pitchers figured that out, he was sent down and was never heard from again.
The same thing should have happened to CD, but hasn’t.
I Could See Giving Him to the ASB to see...
…if he could get it back together.
He hasn’t, so we need to move on and stop throwing good money after bad.
J-Rod got sent down because he was hurt
serious knee injury he never recovered from.
Same principle applies, though.

I think 3. His swing had really degraded. I forget what he was doing, but it was bad (and obvious).
On the plus side
Lohse wasn’t awful. Served one up to CLee, but all in all a better effort than his previous start.

Why do we always get shutdown by mediocre pitchers?
Its not even just lefties anymore. Petit on Sunday? The guy hadn’t gone six innings all year. Moehler? Really? I mean these guys are mediocre at best. We should be killing them, even with Duncan or Ankiel in the lineup.

Dropped 3rd strike woulda kept Ludwick off base and still woulda had 1 out with a runner at 1st… Can’t assume HE singlehandedly cost us the game…

you really think albert wouldn't have been on 2nd on that dropped third strike?
While it’s no guarantee that Ankiel still gets a hit after Albert moves to second, it’s a lot more likely that we score a run somehow with a man on 2nd.

I dont wanna jinx it, but the Pirates are BEATING the Brewers. Hasn’t it been like 6 years since the last time that happened?
I’m still much more worried about the Cubs and Brewers than the Astros. The Astros will fade, they have a much shittier team than we do.

Can you talk a little bit about what happened when you missed the opportunity to make that crucial lane change at mile marker 117? This Pirates game
The Pirates were beating the Brewers badly. They’ve lost to them 17 straight times.
Earlier this year, Jeff Karstens drilled Deputy Douchebag after he hit a HR. Braun was so pissy about it he called out his teammates in the papers for not throwing at the next Pirate batter. Well, Karstens batted and they drilled him in his elbow. He threw down his bat and said “This shit is over now” but Jason Kendal grabbed Karstens and told him to march to first. Karstens looked at him like he was high and the benches cleared. The pitching coach started jawing at Kendall and wanted to kill him.
Anyways, Karstens had to leave because of the swelling and the Pirates went to the 9th.
Felipe Lopez got his 4th hit (going 4-for-4 with a walk) in his Brewers debut and the Braun hit a HR two batters later to make it a 8-5 game. The Pirates ALMOST blew this one.
Crazy game in the rain.

could the cards have screwed up the 2b situation in the off-season any worse?
i’d be ok w/ lopez at 2b and skip in LF right now. we’d still need some power it’d be a huge upgrade from what we are using now
Lopez's defense is so bad
it should never be forgotten.
by Hardcore Legend on Jul 21, 2009 12:11 AM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
well yeah but we still are playing bad defenders are over the place
is thurston’s at 3b better? skip’s at 2b better?
Defense: Lopez at 2b + skip in LF > skip at 2nd + duncan in LF (different when Ankiel plays)
OR
Lopez at 3b + skip at 2b + ankiel in LF = improved offense and defense overall though yeah that’d be a pretty bad infield defensively. Still, it’s not like Thurston at 3b + skip at 2nd is any better
not to mention we’re paying Kennedy for no reason and now Lopez is a brewer (not a huge deal, it’s them getting a pitcher that i worry about it but it does seem to heighten the 2b offseason clusterfuck)
Glaus Rehab
I was at the Memphis game tonight. Glaus started in LF. I’ve never seen such desparity in the sizes of the LF and CF (Shane Robinson) as in tonight’s game. I laughed.
Anyway, Glaus was 2-4 w/ a 9th rbi. He caught all the routine fly balls that came his way. His arm was never remotely tested, nor were there any hits to the gap, etc. that would’ve required him to move a whole lot out there.
All in all, i’m encouraged by how he looked at the plate but have no read whatsoever on his ability or lack thereof in LF.
Oh my boys and girls....
Ankiel had the highest WPA for the Cards tonight…
…what’s this world come to?!
Hmm
