Game 81 Open Thread -- July 2, 2009

San Francisco Giants at St. Louis Cardinals, Jul 2, 2009 7:15 PM EDT

Cain Wellemeyer
4.00 FIP 4.84 FIP

I'm out of town so if Wellemeyer's been bumped from the rotation, I either don't know it or can't change this. Dare to dream! Cain shut us down earlier this season but the Giants are one time that has a more difficult time scoring than we do. Cain has 9 wins and an ERA around 2.50 but he is walking around 4 batters per 9 innings and is benefiting from a .266 BABIP.

Dublin Dr Pepper

To start off off-topic, did anyone venture out to find Dublin Dr Pepper today after it was discussed in yesterday’s open game thread?

Went to Straub’s for the first time ever and bought 4. $1.79 each…they taste good, sweeter, a bit more flavorful, but they lack the crisp bite that regular Dr Pepper possesses, so based on price and availability, I’m gonna have to stick with the norm.

What do you mean yesterdays thread? That was today. I rember because Cain was pitching....

"Rasmus doesn't hit lefties. Instead he bashes them over the head with their own bleeding arm he just raced to the mound to rip off before the ball arrives to the plate. He then smashes that baseball with the pitchers bloody arm over the wall because he does not hit lefites he bashes them." Ted Lilly

He's heating up...

just in time for the trade deadline. I say ship him out for an ace. Package him up and get Haren, Halladay, or King Felix.

He won’t be another Barton… He’ll hit. But there won’t a be a place for him to play. We’ve got a historic season by Pujols going. Carp and Wainwright are seemingly healthy. Time to go for 90 wins and another pennant.

i like you man, but your crazy

we need runs. i know, i know. pitching wins championships. but this O can’t make it to the playoffs, let alone win a ring. let him stay down for another month, and if he’s still mashing, bring the kid up & put him at 3rd.

I mention Molina directly and not Pujols just because we all know Pujols is a lock; and therefore only an act by God himself could cause a player to gain 2 million votes within one day to surge past him.
