They need to get him out of there. Seriously. Why do we have like 74 pitchers on this staff otherwise?

You may not care. That’s up to you.

If you want to not-care, that’s fine. But don’t assume Cardinals fans and VEB readers are only have English as a first language, and only live in the U.S. We all know that’s not the case. If you wanna give off a certain impression to those posters, that’s up to you. I’m not stopping you.

We could’ve just corrected the spelling and left it at that. Keeping it going wasn’t an “accident”.

Keeping what going?

Phonetic spelling? No one was making fun of anybody!

Look, I tend to be rather PC, but this is ridiculous. No one is insulting anyone.

People were phonetically spelling “words” to make the original faux pas less offensive. Yes, in English. But not at the exclusion of, or to injure, those who speak other languages. If they’re on here, they clearly speak English and could see what we were doing. Phonetic spelling is FAR different than mocking someone’s language or heritage. And who were we insulting? There was no distinction! It’s not like we decided to mock all Czechs or all Somalis. If we mocked someone, we mocked EVERYONE. That is called humor.

If I’ve offended any ESL speakers – which I very much doubt – I’m sorry.

Kinney has a sum total of 41 MLB IP

And a FIP of 4.37 over them. That’s not very good for a releiver. Since coming back from injury its up to 7.72.

McClellan has been the definition of lucky as a cardinal. His fip is almost 2 highter than his ERA so he has looked a lot better than he has pitched. A k/bb of 1.64 isn’t all that hot.

Grammar is the awkward high school stage of literature.

Eventually it outgrows it and realises it doesn’t need to fit in to be cool. Joyce had no care for grammar.

Why is that that...

1) Albert never gets to come up to bat as the tying or go ahead run in the 9th?

and

2) It is inevitable that a Cardinal strikes out to end the game when they are the tying or go ahead run at the plate in the 9th?

OT: computer still acting up

Although I got some good advice yesterday from spants and prophetjohn, my computer is still locking up whenever it goes to standby. We cut out some unneccessary start up programs and I downloaded and ran spybot. However, today, my startup is even slower and I am still locking up after going idle. the last time it happened, the screensaver was running and when I moved the mouse the screensaver went away, but the cursor stayed as the little circle instead of going to an arrow and when I attempted to do anything, firefox went to the background like I was going to the desktop, but nothing happened.

Everything is fine, as long as I don’t allow it to go into a standby state. Any suggestions??

this'll probably work

but you’re only eliminating the symptoms and not the problem.

if none of your security software is finding anything, the best thing to try is to system restore it back to a date when it was working well. failing that, you might have to back up your files and format/reinstall windows

unless anybody else has anything. the problem is admittedly a little vague

Of course, hope means being cut down on some street corner, as you run like mad, by a random bullet.

windows vista

haven’t had any complaints at all before this.

I have an option for allowing someone to connect to my computer wirelessly to assist, but it has to be someone specific that you invite. I thought that there would be an option to connect to someone in tech support to get the assistance. Maybe I’m overlooking something?

"Baseball is like Church, many attend, few understand" - Wes Westrum

by scoot on Jul 11, 2009 10:20 PM EDT up reply actions

nah, you could definitely do that

there’s a thing like that where i work, where they go to a website and make themselves available for me to remote into their computer.

okay, well i did a little googling and it seems like this might be a glitch with vista and its ability to wake the hard drive after sleeping. try this

start > in the start search box type “sleep” > click on the “change when the computer sleeps” option > change advanced power settings > click the plus sign next to hard disk > click the plus sign next to turn off hard disk after > change both both of them to never (1 below 0)

the names of what to click on might be slightly different because i’m running win7, but it should be essentially the same.

this way, your computer will still go into a low power state at sleep, but your hard drive will just be idle instead of essentially turned off

Of course, hope means being cut down on some street corner, as you run like mad, by a random bullet.

thanks

you are correct, the steps were a little different, but I figured it out and got it changed. Also, after doing another system restore it seems to be operating quicker. Hopefully with all of the changes it will remain that way. Thanks again for all the help, it is greatly appreciated.

Odd thing happened after restoring. Firefox was giving me an error, something about unable to run due to chrome incompatibility. Googled it, tried a simple fix from a forum somewhere out there and it doesn’t seems to have corrected it.

I was worried at first when coming back from the system restore. Sat here staring at a blue screen for about 5 minutes waiting for it to restart. But, everything seems fine now that it got restarted and I eliminated the extraneous startup programs. Thanks again for the help!

Not sure where to go from here, other than Az’s suggestion that you disable standby. Also, set your screensaver to be a blank screen as it will probably take less effort for the computer to handle that.

Are you running the newest version of Firefox?

yep, newest firefox

and I have disabled standby and turned off my screensaver. I guess I’ll let it ride like this for a couple more weeks til I get back to school and get a guy to take a look at it there.

A couple of other weird things going on- IE locks up if I try to use it (which I never do, so no big deal, right?) and the little news feed on my desktop is stuck- hasnt updated the stories since the 29th of June.

Bizarre.

This sounds like an OS issue.

Did you do the system restore before you had issues or after?

restored after the issues

Think I should restore further back and see if that makes a difference, or am I destined for a format and reinstall?

Might as well try it.

But yeah, sounds like a long day is in your future.

going through the restore points

the last date for an update to the news feed was the 29th. I had a driver install on the 30th. Im hoping that is the culprit. Going to restore to that point and go to bed . . . hopefully tomorrow will bring a healthy PC. Again, thank you for your help!

Is Pittsburgh really putting up a 5-spot on Philly?

You have to admire

Pinella for his aggressive posture by throwing Zambrano against Lohse in the first game.
The real “sub dialog” here is a threat to throw at Lohse which the press has made such a big issue about. I trust Lohse will fire back. I hope they won’t have him turn to bunt before Zambrano even starts the wind up like usual. I’m hoping they are calling this game from the dugout , no offense LaRue.
Nightcap will be tough if the Cubs capture momentum in the day game. Waino’s breaking stuff will be better in the nightcap on that field is the thinking I would wager. Lets get back to back complete games.

I'm watching Rookie of the Year for the first time

It is difficult to watch a game with this much cubby in it….

Think about it like this...

The Cubbies sucked so bad at that point in time, they had to sign a 13 year old just to get people come watch them play. Does that help?

absolutely!

Actually, When the cub’s batting coach started choking, I laughed my face off!

And the 13 year old runs the bases much like I imagine Boog would if he could!

Cheers!

Any chance that Wonderbrad rides the Memphis shuttle for a while? If that works, Dick and Dunc sure would look good in Batavia Muckdog duds!
