Around SBN: SB Nation interviews Jerome Bettis

Moved it just for you spants. I guess you didn't read the part before about this was just a "for fun" idea. Not serious. Loosen your belt dude, who do you think you are going off like that.

My wife and I were talking about all the different line ups and came up with this one, just for fun, based on order of jersey number...so it would look something like this. Some players may be skipped simply because the fielding position is already filled

#4 Molina C

#5 Pujols 1B

#7 DeRosa 3B

#13 Ryan SS

#16 Duncan LF

#22 Thurston 2B

#24 Ankiel RF

#28 Rasmus CF

#29 Carpenter(or other pitcher)

See that was fun!

I posted this comment on the Musial Fanshot, but I really should have put it here:

It’s a safe bet that quite a few others felt the same way Spants did about your Fanpost, TNCardsFan. It has nothing to do with her being "too serious," and everything to do with the fact that Fanposts are intended to actually have some substance, regardless of whether there’s also humor intended. No one wants to see interesting Fanpost discussions pushed off the front page by something tossed off in 30 seconds about how we should do lineups based on uniform number, shoe size, astrological sign, etc.

I really wish there was something about the intended purposes of Fanposts and Fanshots in the community guidelines (or maybe there is and I missed it), but until then people who put up substance-free Fanposts can expect responses similar to the one you got.

Yep

I’m happy to move my post, but there’s no reason to be rude about an unwritten rule that somebody doesn’t know about.

I wasn't trying to be rude.

I was letting you know why no one was commenting on your post. I went back and forth on whether to comment. My instinct was no, and I should’ve trusted it b/c you took it WAY personally. In your original post, I even discussed the history of the batting order and uniform numbers… No mention of me adding to your discussion, though.

You’ve been around a little while, but probably not very active. I know the admins did a post clarifying FanShots and FanPosts since you’ve been here. Apparently, you didn’t see it. Here’s an admin post from June 12, 2009 that links to the guidelines for FanPosts.

In any case, I did not attack you personally. I don’t recall exactly what I wrote, but it was probably brief and didn’t explain enough to you. For that, I am sorry.

agreed

They should really clarify the difference between Fanshots and Fanposts.

That said, Fanposts do state in their FAQ:

Q: What’s the value of writing a good headline? Can’t I just write any old thing?
Headlines are the critical first impression of your posts. Most visitors find your headlines before they find your blog and the way in which you craft that introduction to your content determines if they click through to read the rest.

A: People click on headlines that make them curious, that match terms they’re searching for, or that mention the game/player they’re thinking about. Descriptive headlines improve search engine optimization, so more readers find you.

*
Q: I can’t publish without running Auto Tag & Link? Is it mandatory?

A:Yes. We believe very strongly that good tagging is crucial for bringing attention to your writing and for building a stronger fan-powered network. Our hope is that the automated process makes it easier for you to focus on what you do best: starting and engaging in conversations about the sports and teams you love.

That’s almost journalistic standards. Whereas the FanShots are nearly WYSIWYG in their ease of posting. But I find “can’t I write just any old thing” is a good off-the-cuff guidepost.

It also makes more sense to look at other blog communities who don’t care about what ends up in either type of posting. If VEB as a community wants to go in that direction, then that’s that. If not, though, then yeah, a little conscientiousness is probably preferable.
