Every single time

I see the names Duncan, Ludwick, and Ankiel, my brain envisions them at peak performance. I see last year’s Ludwick, old Chris Duncan, and the good version of Ankiel.

Then I watch the game and am disappointed.

OperaCardLite

The Giants have skilled enough hitters to attempt a short swing, “singles are preferred” approach to get Carpenter into a stretch, take advantage of his aggressiveness to score two runs and take everyone else out of their game. Oh yea, Cain isn’t going to challenge Pujols like the gentleman gamer Randy Johnson and the dashing Timmy L. You will see the exact same tactic this evening against Wainwright. How you you defend this if you were the skipper.

Outfield especially seemed energetic. Thurston seemed tense (imagine that). Nothing else really stood out, good or bad, besides Albert Pujols being ridiculous.

Pitcher Batting 8th makes sense tonight if

Thurston was batting 9th with everyone else sliding down one spot as Thurston is definately the worst hitter in this line-up! Sorry for bringing up a dead issue related to Pujols in the clean-up spot but it does seem odd that with all the freaking line-ups that we have seen that we have not seen Pujols in the clean-up spot. It is even more odd when you consider how terrible everyone else has done hitting in that spot. Pujols just might be the only guy who could handle the pressure of hitting in that magic spot. I know it will never happen – I’m just bored and upset that I will probably get to watch Thurston do something stupid tonight. I just hope he does not get picked off base tonight – internet might go down.

missed the day thread

didn’t take the time to go through it and see if this was discussed already, but. . .

What do you guys think the effect ison the young pitchers psyche with all of this bringing guys up for a single appearance and then sending them straight back down after that one not so inspiring appearance? These guys are more than likely extremely nervous already making their major league debut, but can you imagine the increase in pressure if they have the impression that if they do not have a lights out performance in that first game that they are going right back down I-55 that night?

Holy cow, albert has a home run in one out of every 9.7 non-IBB PA’s this year. Still was a bad move to walk him, though, and in retrospect might have cost the giants the game (though no one will ask “do you think that cowardly walking pujols in the first inning cost you the game, loser”?)

Ludwick's bat waving

I brought this up in another game day post maybe a week? ago or so. I’m sure others have brought it up too, but-

Ludwick this season after coming back from the DL seemed to have added additional movement to his already wagging bat. Missed the last game or three when he seems to be doing better..does it look like it’s calmed back down to normal? It seems a minor tweak like that could be the thing to fix his swing.

ugh duncan

not to knee jerk, as he’s been this bad for approximately 18 months now…. can we PLEASE PLEASE not have him on the major league team??? PLEASE? He was very good for a total of 6 months, after an undistinguished minor league career. I really feel it’s grossly unfair for people to take pot-shots at those who attribute his position on the roster to nepotism – I really cannot see how he can conceivably be justifying a position anywhere NEAR an MLB team without it. He’s basically unproven, has done nothing for two seasons, and is replacement level right now. He’s the Brandon Backe of outfielders.

he has another year I think?

he also has an option so should be in memphis right now. I’m not that opposed to him being back next year as long as TLR and Duncan are gone – no nepotistic selections then, and I feel he might gain a bit of power after a year from his surgery. He sucks now but he might just be a 1-2 win OF again next year. Honestly, I can’t see him being much more than replacement this year…
