Baseball is Just a Game
I love this game and the team but this is far from the end of the world.
There are better days ahead.
I hope we pull in a Matt Holliday or two.
All I can say about Boyer/Barton/Herron etc...is that this farm system is so full of mediocre players we need to purge the duplicates from our prospective talent.
It's healthy to clean out the lower ranks and turn them into major league players that can make an impact.
Potential is useless unless it is realized.
Rasmus and Greene rock.
Motte or Perez if not both will be valuable.
Dump the rest and let's move on to better days ahead.
Everyone wants to be like the Rays but how long did they have to suffer as a chew toy for the rest of the AL East before they amassed enough quality prospects to be competitive?
We have an established franchise.
Players want to come here to compete and win.
Rookies want to stick with this club and play every last remaining game of their career as a Cardinal.
If it takes parting with a DJ tools or a Wallace or Boggs then so be it I want to see winning baseball not an "oh just wait till we draft 3 or 4 uber prospects for nothing and they develop in an unfathomable 3 months into superstars and we smash the entire league with their divinity" approach.
You don't get something for nothing.
Go get us a Holliday or Dunn.
Get a God Damn third baseman not a MIF or an OF who used to play third but a bonafide"I was meant to play there and I am good at it and I can hit" third baseman and maybe a fill-in 5th starter/longman and lets get on with winning this division and on to the post season.
Go Cards.
Boo MIFs who play 3B and crappy Left Fielders.
Game On.

This site rocks.
I didn’t put the links into Holliday or the Rays but it linked them for me. I love SB Nation almost as much as I love Cardinals Baseball.
"Rasmus doesn't hit lefties. Instead he bashes them over the head with their own bleeding arm he just raced to the mound to rip off before the ball arrives to the plate. He then smashes that baseball with the pitchers bloody arm over the wall because he does not hit lefites he bashes them." Ted Lilly
i love you too Red
i love you too

oh really?
I just wrote about how obnoxious I find that (the links, not your post), haha.

1 for 4 with a K
sounds about right.
- "I went at it and didn’t slow down, so it kind of bounced off me." -Lil' Dunc
slounds better than when he was hitting here
a .250 hitter sounds pretty good. not to mention he hasn’t swung a bat in quite a while
Am I the only person.....
That really wonders how much “help” Khalil could have gotten in such a short time? I mean, I was expecting him to be out for more like a month, maybe 6 weeks, getting counseling, or fully allowing some new meds to take affect. What could have changed in such a short time?

I should note.....
That I’m rooting for the kid. Just think it may have been in his best interest to be out a bit longer.

i agree
i wasn’t really holding my breath to see him again this year. but it’s impossible to know what is and was going on in his head. i have a hard enough time knowing what goes on in my own head. so i’m all for taking his word for it until he prves otherwise
agreed
this looks a bit like the same story of the last couple of years – rushing guys back before they’re ready. I wonder if he should just have had a month off from all baseball activities.
Maybe they’d have given him longer if he was here for more than a year – realistically, in 6 weeks’ time, he’ll still presumably require a rehab assignment, and then can only help us for barely the last month and a half of the season, maybe 2. I suppose that must be their thinking. I’m not expecting much out of him, though. Anything would be a bonus.

but really
as frustrating as this team was to watch this last series, it’s far from over. yadi will hit, ankiel will hit better, ludwick will hit, a move will be made, khalil greene will be back, kyle lohse will be back, albert will go on the tear of his career, colby will break out and win rookie of the year, wallace will be called up
this team is pathetic right now, but they are still in the nl central race and they are better than the brewers what with that pitching rotation.
i disagree
Ank & KBot are toast. Tony won’t let Colby play enough to break out. Walrus will not be called up this year & will have to have the spring of all springs to make the team next year.
and above all, no move will be made. they’ve fooled & lied to me way to many times in the past to believe this time is any different. i don’t for one second think MO will trade for anyone who will help this pathetic O.

nah
wallace will come up in september (unless he’s not hitting). a move will be made if its available. k-bot, maybe. ankiel will hit. he’s always been streaky. he will have a run and he will hit at least 20 HRs unless he hits the dl for an extended period of time. that’s when we trade him. if khalil hits, he probably gets trade, too
but go ahead and doom and gloom, i don’t mind
you say doom & gloom
i say reality.

sounds more like
they recognize that we need help, but help wants too much.
beating CLE tonight might help make DeRosa cheaper, though. Go Carp!

it's okay, you don't have to lie
it’s okay to enjoy saying i told you so
and i concede that no big trade will be made. let’s hope a small, smart one can be made.
i still stand by my comments about the team we currently have

i’d give anything to be wrong, anything.

yeah
we need to be happy that we haven’t completely lost it.
I don’t think all of those players will be back like you said, but I do think this team will be back to a normal hitting team again. We DO need to make a trade or two, but we’re going to get better than this even without a trade.
On with the (good) youth movement!
Completely unrelated
but I’m really not a fan of this new SB Nation linkfest going on. Why does every team need to become a link? I keep getting fooled into clicking because I think it’s a useful link that the writer put in. Ugh. Obnoxious schemes to make money . . .

what a difference a few months make...
… after April the team could do no wrong.
the unexpected Glaus injury hurt us much more than we thought. remember March and April? we thought we had a great recipe: no need to rush Wallace because we had Glaus for another year, and he was fantastic last season. after this year, if Wallace wasn’t quite ready, we thought we could easily get by with Freese/Mather/Craig for a year or so. we had TONS of OF depth… how would we find time for all those guys? K. Greene could only improve from ‘08… his BABIP was bad, and anyway his defense was solid so if he was even mediocre with the stick he’d be a positive for the team. Miller and Reyes were great LOOGYs and should help the team a lot. Luddy might not be quite as good as was last year, but he’d still be a major contributor.
quite frankly, we should be thankful that Thurston has done as well as he has, and that Ryan and T. Greene have done as well as they have.
where does that leave us? well, it’s not even mid-June yet. Luddy could regain his stroke. Dunc could find his April form, or something close to it. Rasmus looks poised for a breakout. the bullpen could gel, 2006-style. Freese or Mather could come back to life. Khalil could get settled and become productive again. Lohse can come back healthy and be the solid mid-rotation guy he’s paid to be. there are some definite potential positives here, and we’re only a few games out of the division lead.
this is not yet a lost season, but it’s going to be a battle the rest of the way. my expectations for this team were fairly low, and so far they’ve performed about as well as i’d expected. it’s not a lost season yet, and the team needs help, but i don’t think we’re a trade away. we just need they guys we have to get healthy and perform according to projections. if they do, we’ll have a chance.
Yeah
it does seem uber-ironic, given the talk of depth in the winter, that the two positions we really need to trade for are (drumroll)….. 3B and OF.

We’ve really gotten fucked this year on offense. OTOH, our starting pitching has been much better than expected.

not usre why it didnt work ah well
it was a clip from mr baseball..baseball is a game games are supposed to be fun
I can't believe i gave up a homerun to that punch and judy hitter-major league 2
While I find setting peoples' shoelaces on fire in the dugout to be hilarious
I bet Tony would find it about as funny as the Chief found it. Perhaps less.
There's no "I" in team. There's also no "I" in "B-g Mac Land".
No, Baseball is not "Just a Game"
Baseball , like the El Birdos, SON TODOS!
Baseball ( the Cards in particular), a chosen few family and friends, and a fine woman, are the three most important things in life.
I am not so sure on the order of ^ things though.

I'm really pulling for khalil
especially as I think his “failure” in the first 2 months was overstated…

Overstated
and almost completely (bad) luck-driven.
"If I prepare myself, my stuff is good and I'm going to get outs. That is a fact." - Chris Carpenter
Everyone must be overlooking
The fact that we have more OFs than we need. We need some middle infielders, not some more outfielders. We’ve currently got 5 on the roster. We’re having issues at short and 3rd, both offensively and defensively.
Welcome to Baseball Heaven.
yeah
we’ve got 5 OFs to man 3 spots
we have 5 MIFs to man 3 spots
and we know the outfielders are hitting so much better than the MIFs
