Game 79 Overflow Thread

If anything, the 6th inning should show us that the game isn't entirely out of reach (bad Tyler Greene GIDP aside).  That said, this team seems to invent new ways to take themselves out of the game on a nightly basis.  Can't score runs?  With Carpenter on the mound they score 3 (I don't follow DanUp's fancy writing rules about numbers being typed out) but the defense unravels (well Ankiel's defense at least) to allow a bunch of bloops, bleeders and blasts for San Francisco.

As always, be careful with your comments.  The game threads are a little more casual but the community guidelines still apply.

I would enjoy a line up of

C – Molina
1B – Pujols
2B – Thurston (I guess, better than T. Greene)
SS – Ryan
3B – DeRosa
LF – Schumaker
CF – Rasmus
RF – Ludwick

I’d like to see that lineup everyday for a month and see the results.

OT: Cards fans from a Brewer fan's perspective...

I’m on vacation in an area outside of both the Brewers and the Cards’ home markets. I’ve been wearing my Brewer hat every day, and on 3 separate occasions I’ve been approached by Cards fans who noticed my hat. All three were very cool folks and I enjoyed talking to them. The last conversation ended with a “see you in the playoffs” from the Cards fan, and a “hey, anyone but the Cubs” from me, with smiles on both sides.

Maybe you guys aren’t so bad after all… :)

Just thought I’d share….

when the little girl died after getting hit by a puck here in columbus

the NHL added more netting. MLB should take notes & do the right thing before something like that happens in a ball park.

and oh by the by, any good lawyer will tell you those disclaimers on the tickets aren’t worth the paper they are printed on. i know for a fact people have gotten teams & MLB to pay medical bills & lost wages, etc after they have been hit by balls & bats. the WWL even did a story on it. and the little girl who died family got a settlement from the NHL as well.

The Cardinals are in the bottom third of relief innings pitched.

They have 8 relievers. What is it going to take to make this end? The Mariners just poached a useful player from the Nationals for nothing. Give me 10 minutes and I can find at least 2 players in AAA that could be had for nothing, are right handed and would make a useful addition to our bench.

The 8 relievers really REALLY has to stop. Someone should be fired over it in all seriousness.

All having good years in AAA, all marginally useful players, all more valuable than the 13th man in the bullpen.

me too

i’d like to see what being around Albert all this time would have done for him.

what about his best friend who plays 2nd for detroit? does he have anything left?

no matter if they add a righty, we still have the T.Greene/K.Greene/Thurston/Boog/Skippy MIF clusterfuck that’s taking up roster spots along with the 13 man pen. Az is right, someone should be fired for this mess.

Two things

1) We aren’t a very good team. We’ve been below .500 the last two months. I hope we turn it around after these next 2 weeks of very important games, but if we don’t..I hope the front office realizes just how bad we are and doesn’t do something foolish like the Mariners of a few years ago.

2) If they plan on trading Brett Wallace, why not go ahead and screw Billy Beane over and start Wallace’s arbitration already?

DeRosa wrist injury

link

ST. LOUIS — Three games into his Cardinals career, Mark DeRosa is hurt. He and the club are just hoping it’s not too serious.

DeRosa injured his left wrist on a swing in the fourth inning of St. Louis’ 6-3 loss to San Francisco on Tuesday night. He remained in the game for one more inning, but removed himself before taking another at-bat. He is expected to be re-examined on Wednesday.

“I took a swing there my second at-bat and felt a little tweak in my left wrist,” DeRosa said. “I went in to hit off the tee after coming in from playing the field, and it just didn’t feel right. I felt like I should come out of the game and get it looked at.”

sigh. this is horrible on two levels

1. I live in STL and I’m a lifelong cardinals fan.
2. I’m in a NL-only fantasy league where DeRosa clears waivers (as a new player) tomorrow and I had top claim in on him, which I may now have to withdraw.

I mean he could be lost for the season like Rickie Weeks, or have a lesser injury but not come back with power. It was his lead hand.
