Tony La Russa v. Twitter
TLR is suing Twitter for trademark infringement and dilution, cybersquatting, and misappropriation of name and likeness over a fake Twitter account that contained "vulgar and apparently Cardinals-related references." The fake page was removed by Twitter following the filing of the lawsuit.

thanks for posting this.
The fake Twitter page included La Russa’s photo and a handful of vulgar and apparently Cardinals-related updates. One line of the “profile” suggested it was all a fake: “Bio Parodies are fun for everyone.”
Hmm. vulgar cardinals related updates. >looks around the blog.< all right, who did it?
more seriously, if the site indicated it was a “parody” and the posts were transparently not tony’s, i don’t see how you could succeed in that kind of suit. more likely, having the site taken down was the real aim.

not to reply to myself, but if you follow the links through it eventually will take you to the
complaint in the case, which has a printout of the twitter page at the very end, with only three posts, all of them stupid. and the “jokes” are tasteless and not very funny. when the linked article said “vulgar” I was thinking, you know, dick jokes, crass but amusing 12-year-old humor. the twitter page actually consists of gems like “if josh hancock were still alive he would have gotten that guy out” or “well, not a good road trip but no DUI’s and no dead pitchers.”
it didn’t seem like the work of an impudent VEBer, mocking tony’s quirks and idiosyncrasies. it seemed like the work of someone who knew the cardinals through a handful of espn stories — namely, tony’s dui and hancock’s death. almost like . . . maybe . . . a cub fan?
