Game 77 OvermaFlow

Hooray Dero! Boo lefty's still shutting down the O.

Star-divide

Pinata had anther QS. too bad his D let him down. Dero just made a diving catch in left (so much for him playing 3rd uh MO? guess Tony didn't get the memo) and the home town crowd rejoiced. Thursty still sucks even if his sprints to 1st remind us of the glory days of David Eckstein. T. Green has no idea what he's swinging at. KBot is down in the dumps again. all in all, just another day at the ball park for your 2009 St. Louis Cardinals.

oh, and i almost forgot

Albert Pujols is ridiclious.

I wondered why DeRo

Ludwick’s are correct: http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=1260&position=OF

but I was wrong about Holliday’s wOBA, it’s .359. I was right about the ISO though, and Ludwick has more home runs in less playing time

another factor is that Holliday plays better defense

"better defense" is arguable.

Their career UZR/150’s in the corners are about the same, and Luddy has the arm to play RF.

It is simply ridiculous….it was like a trainwreck and I couldn’t look away. He said pretty much every synonym for “marijuana” during his ranting bit and it was so absolutely awkward that it might’ve been the funniest thing I’ve ever seen on ESPN (besides “Who’s More ‘Now’?”).

also

once everything’s working properly again get a hardware router. They’re like 50 bucks and are a cinch to hook up, it’ll take you longer to go to the store and buy one than it will to set it up. Seems to cut down on the amount of crap your computer has to deal with dramatically.

ooh

that’s a tough one.

Sometimes what these gadgets will do is hide alternate copies of taskmgr.exe or msconfig.exe with the extension changed from .exe to .com. Since C comes before E in the alphabet, when you type in “msconfig” in the Run window, it runs the alternate copy instead. If you can find those and delete them you may be able to get back to the msconfig window.

by nota bene on Jun 28, 2009 5:22 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

one other thing to try

Google for a hosts file hack. The hosts file (it’s just called “hosts”, with no extension at all) lives in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drives\etc folder. It’ll have a list of IP address and what URL corresponds with them. Factory default is just 127.0.0.1 = your computer. You can get lists of evil websites and set them all to read 127.0.0.1—so any time your computer (for whatever reason—malware or kid brother looking for pwerno) tries to access one of these sites, it looks only on the local computer and not on the internet.

There are some drawbacks to this approach but it works pretty well….it might possibly short-circuit some of the other goofy stuff that’s happening.

by nota bene on Jun 28, 2009 5:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

when something is protecting itself like that

(it’s restarting the computer in safe mode when he tries to run HJT!), it’s a good bet there’s a separate exe or dll that’s configured to run automatically whenever Windows starts up.

You have to find the problem

Than manually disable in Task Manager than run AVG anti virus

I disagree

LaRue’s run doesn’t matter really. Why risk the 2nd out of the inning there in sending a wicked-slow runner?

by goodymobb on Jun 28, 2009 5:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Firstly, because you score when you can in obvious situtions like that

second, because if Thurston is at 3rd and not 2nd, it would have eliminated the force at every base.

by Hardcore Legend on Jun 28, 2009 5:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Still not convinced

LaRue couldn’t even take 2nd earlier after singling and when the runner drew a throw from the OF to home. LaRue is slow.

If LaRue stays on 3rd, Thurston stays on 2nd, and Dunc at 1B, a little old single probably plates 2 runners (Thurston could likely get in from 2nd). And Schu just struckout, so anyway, not risking an out by sending LaRue (or Thurston getting hung up) leaves us with only 2 outs and a chance.

I just don’t like gambling outs when you have so much ground to make up.

there's no if ands or buts about it

Joe Thurston scewed up there, just like he always seems to do on the basebaths. they went from getting excited about having the bases loaded with the top of the order coming up to 1st & 3rd 2 outs and their egos walking to the car.

How did the pig corner the breakfast market?

Egos walking to the car?

And as far as ‘top of the order’, it was Skippy and the pitchers spot. We were 2 hitters with 1 out away from Pujols batting.

He ended up with a K

but Schumaker has been as hot as anybody not named Pujols lately and who’s to say he sees the same pitches if the bases are loaded with one out. Molina was on deck and he’s been known to get a clutch hit or two. to deny momentum as part of the game is naive

You seem to be particularly upset about this game

so I won’t continue to prod you but think about his: If LaRue’s run was so meaningless that we need not risk send him home…why would the Twins attempt to throw him out at home, especially since he already rounded 3rd by the time they picked up the ball?

How did the pig corner the breakfast market?

by STLRegalia on Jun 28, 2009 5:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Because Oquendo has made bizarre basepath

decisions for the last 4 years on a routine basis. Thurston absolutely should have looked up to see where the runner was at but his only concern was going 1st-to-3rd on a ball he knew he easily could.

Oquendo held LaRue out of fear, I guess. Still has visions of Beltran gunning down Eckstein Opening Day 2007 or something. Usually these decisions seem to be made to get Albert more runners on base.

I know that as soon as that ball slowed down on the grass in CF, I didn’t give LaRue a second thought because he should have cruised in standing up at home. Instead, he’s glued to 3rd with Thurston only 5 steps away.

by Hardcore Legend on Jun 28, 2009 6:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Absolutely

no way Gomez goes to the plate. Gardenhire would have eaten him alive for giving up the double play. No team would have tried that save Ankiel playing cowboy. That doesn’t even take into consideration Mauer is at the plate. These guys are schooled.

This is sloppy base coaching. Someone addicted to the Albert Pujols circus. Thurston got a great jump, which he may have needed to beat a double play. The run was conceded.

by OperaCard on Jun 28, 2009 9:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm fine pressing your luck

when it will matter, but to do so with your slowest guy (non-Molina division) with the top of the order coming up and needing a buttload of runs doesn’t seem like a good bet IMO.

You had bases loaded, 1 out with Skip coming up against a reliever who was basically on the ropes. You also had Yadi (I think) on deck and then Albert.

No we probably weren’t going to finish the rally, but that doesn’t excuse falling on the sword yourself. Whether Oquendo should have sent him or not is immaterial. The fact is he held him up and all Thurston needed to do was take a look at the guy 60 feet in front of him with his hands up, and we have the tying run at the plate with 1 out.

I just don't get it

If I do something totally stupid at my job, I make sure that I never do it again.

Thurston just continually makes the same mistake over and over again.

if you're completely unqualified

for your job, you better make sure that you show up to meetings on time and make a fresh pot of coffee when you finish it. Don’t do stupid things that bring your shortcomings to the forefront

there was still a glimmer of hope

as long as schumaker doesn’t pull a Rasmus and GIDP, Molina, a clutch 2-out hitter comes up with Pujols on deck, and then anything is possible.

How did the pig corner the breakfast market?

Thurston is garbage. I don't want him in Memphis, Palm Beach, or anywhere

I want him out of this organization. He’s a bum. A waste of a roster spot.

Is very bad to steal A-Pu's rum...is very bad.

Bold Prediction: We take 3 of 4 from the Giants

The real Mark DeRosa era of Cardinals baseball begins tomorrow.

i was hoping when i got called at work by

yer dog that Thursty was on his way down..I thought DeRO was gonna be the man at third…

instead a 5th OF? They need to keep T green up, send down Joe..

I can't believe i gave up a homerun to that punch and judy hitter-major league 2

one needs to go

And as horrible as Thurston’s been of late on the bases and in the field, Tyler Greene hasn’t done much to inspire confidence at the plate (or in the field, today). Tyler does absolutely nothing offensively.

I think Thurston COULD be a useful bench player, but why he continues to see so many starts and so much playing time is beyond me.

IMO

the young guys hit then they jack em around sit them for a bit then try them again…look what happened with Barden, Im not all that convinced it was “they figured him out”

Yeah, there's a little too much lineup tinkering

for my tastes. Similarly, what I’d like to see is Ludwick in the 4th spot and Colby in the 5 spot for about 2 weeks (of course that would be hard to do now) to see if those guys can get into a groove with regular PT.

I think I’d like to see:
Schu/Ryan
DeRosa
Albert
Lud
Raz

Yadi
Ank
P
Whoever’s playing 3B

with the bold guys not going anywhere, no matter the matchup.

by goodymobb on Jun 28, 2009 5:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

or how about...

ryan ss
shumaker lf
pujols 1b
derosa 2b/3b
rasmus cf
ludwick rf
molina c
thurston 2b/3b and only if he stops screwing up simple plays and if not i say we go find someone else in the minors or a cheap trade for someone even like maybe.. david eckstein…

The question with T. Greene

Has always been whether he will get on base enough. That seems to just be the “con” with him. I don’t think usage has much to do with it in this case.

Tony Talks?

Jesus, did anyone else stick around for Tony’s comments? That might’ve been the shortest Q & A I’ve seen yet. What was the point of that? No one says anything about Thurston’s play?

I don’t know what I want; I don’t necessarily want everyone to pile on (that happens enough on its own) but can someone ever ask Tony about something that seems to make absolutely no logical sense whatsoever?

by goodymobb on Jun 28, 2009 5:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

what? you mean the STL media chickened out & didn't ask why a shitty player is still on the team?

shocking. someone get Guinness on the phone. stat!

The dude is a hard-ass by most accounts and he’s been in the game for however many years…I think they can take the kid gloves off once in a while.

Can someone implant Thurston's wife with a baby like every 3 or 4 days for the rest of the season?

Thurston

is the only one who did his job. You guys should be embarrassed.

by OperaCard on Jun 28, 2009 9:20 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He did what was probably logical, but didn't do his job

Yes, most everyone would agree that on a soft grounder up the middle, the guy from 2nd has to try and score. I know that, you know that, Joe Thurston knows that.

But his job is to look up at his 3rd base coach. He failed to do that.
