Anyone know when was the last time
the Cardinals came from 3 runs or more down to win after the 6th inning?
There was Gibson in the Reds' dugout, visibly manhandling about three Reds and tossing them bodily out of the dugout and onto the field...He was the toughest athlete mentally I ever saw, and the greatest competitor. JACK BUCK

Rosterbaiting!
One day, two moves. Hurts the minors, helps the majors. Perhaps realistic moves?
Perez, Lynn, and Salas for DeRosa; Duncan, Jay (preferably) or Jones, Anderson, + (1 or 2)Random(s) (OAK’s picks) for Holliday.
I’m signing off on it.
You only lose from the Majors Perez (who’s velocity drop concerns me) from the pen and Dunc from the crappy OF rotation. Ankiel becomes the official 4th OFer (I’d prefer trading him for anything). Jay or Jones is gone which sucks but you have to break some eggs, etc; and Anderson doesn’t seem to have much of a future in the org right now, as unfortunate as that might be.
Lineup:
Schumaker
Rasmus/DeRosa
Pujols
Holliday
DeRosa/Ludwick
Ludwick/Rasmus
Greene
Molina
Pitcher

I was at the game tonight
A couple of drunken thoughts, which you all probably have seeing as the event was televised….
1. Thurston should be released. If when he’s put in defensively he fails and when he’s put in as a pinch runner he fails, as he’s not good enough to start, he simply has no value as far as I can tell. He’s a liability in every spot
2. Brendan Ryan rules. He’s had a great series and a great season, for what it’s worth. He’s becoming an everyday player and a valuable one at that. I wish there was power but with his defense, if he can get on base like he is, he may be our best bet this season and moving on
3. Kinney looked horrid. I thought he found his groove in Memphis but apparently not. And the whole bullpen sucked. Hawksworth is probably not a major league pitcher and I’m getting sour on Perez the more I watch him
4. Citi Field is very nice. I’ve never been to the new Busch as I live in Brooklyn but it’s a big field and the views are really great. Good food, nice atmosphere. I don’t want to look at my next bank statement though…
5. I don’t get why Thompson was taken out after 66 pitches…maybe there’s another reason? He wasn’t great but blowing the bullpen seemed odd and now we need to hope Carp kicks ass tomorrow
6. Mets fans are annoying….probably more so than Cubs fans because at least Cubs fans are funny. Mets fans just seem dumb…booing Pujols, cheering for Alex Cora…it made my head explode.

This post went without notice
There is such levity in this group. Life in good riding the first place wave.
I’m curious to know how many folks think we will do better than split this series? Or if valiant war horses like Carpenter and Wainwright survive this kind of offensive support, to pitch in Sept and October? A buzzard of any breeding wouldn’t have landed on the mets this week.
I see Carp pitching against Santana tomorrow for the split. Thats always easy. Pick a winner there.

Tomorrow may be a day of change. Santana has struggled lately, but he was playing talented teams. We can’t hope to do much because we have terrible left handed hitting, and terribly impatient RH hitters. That leaves Carpenter as the war pony pulling a wagon filled with dead shoulders. There is danger here and its not a just loosing. If that pony breaks down or injures himself it will become a sad season. I would like to know who is going to step up here. Last year Johann showed us very little of his better pitches and crushed us. This team has little chemistry. They are all weakly self interested or completely broken down. The Mets suck. If Vegas shades the Mets, and the O/U is less than 6, what does that say about this team?

vegas has the odds overall even tomorrow
Some places (cal-nev) have us as much as 25 point favorites (per vegasinsider.com, can’t link b/c the url breaks sbnation…)
Anyway, Carpenter vs Santana has the potential to be a game for the ages, regardless of who the batters are on either side; if I wasn’t in the middle of a gawdawful thingy@work right now, I’d be on an airplane to NYC.
Obviously you think the team has flaws, but every team has flaws. What are you trying to accomplish?

We have some wonderful players Sleepy
We also have some very flawed talent by major league standards. The miss plays today, especially by the young players is a sign of a deteriorating dugout. Thursty is now following Barden into the “am I every going to be a big leaguer” void. Ryan and Rasmus are both self motivated individualists. They are unlikely going to be responsive tomorrow. K. Greene has his problems and being caught in a low energy team effort isn’t good for his health. Albert looked truly bummed tonight. Ankiel won’t play. They will play Duncan on a wild hare that he finds a mistake. The mets have a bunch of kids trying to show well. Carpenter will challenge and some of them are hitting breaking balls, even his maybe. Tony has no better lineup choices today than he had last night. O/U is seven, Cards slight favorite. The Mets will be slapping, bunting, and hit and running. Will we? Can we? You can’t sacrifice with Pujols batting 3rd. They walk him every time the bag is open without hesitation. We aren’t very good. Wait till the Twins see Pinero and Welly. They will kill us. Yes , the will crush the sinker. Moving Ankiel seems to be tied into any trades. I don’t see that as a positive.

we won't play the Twins until the WS
the brewers do, because they are Minnesota’s “natural rivals”, but our “rivals” are the royals. And the tigers, lately, for whatever reason.
If we do play the Twins, in 2009, it’ll be the culmination of an awesome season…

...or just the three-game series we have scheduled with them this weekend
