Announcing is an interesting field
Most people who do it were ok, not great, players and fired coaches/GM’s. They then sit up in the booth and criticize people who are usually better than them. It’s funny to me for some reason.

hey
you all know that’s exactly why tony pulled colby instead of skip.

and uh, Colby's a rook

you know what i mean
It kind of sounds like he’s [Duncan] just running around like a puppy out there – full speed ahead in random directions. – BTown Birds Fan
not really
because it sounds like you are suggesting that Tony PH for Cobly because he doesn’t like rookies in pressure situations. Which makes no sense because the pinch hitter is also a rookie.
Did you mean it another way?
yes, i meant that he wouldn't pull Skippy for a RH PH
doesn’t matter who the PH RH is, if TLR’s going to pull a LH batter, it won’t be a vet. we all know it. he wanted his lefty/righty match up even if it meant hurting the clubs chances of winning & he got it.
It kind of sounds like he’s [Duncan] just running around like a puppy out there – full speed ahead in random directions. – BTown Birds Fan
alright, lets review the situation
you have two left handed hitters. You have no outs. You need one run. You have the greatest hitter batting 3rd. You need a man on base infront of him.
Your two hitters have the following numbers.
hitter number 1.) .346 OBP and a .304 OBP against LHP
hitter number 2.) .321 OBP and a .220 OBP against LHP
You have 1 Right handed batter on your bench. Who do you PH for?
Taking into account their defense and BABIP against LHP:
#1.
"I usually don’t read other peoples sigs." -Cuttah
first
Defense does enter into because you need offense. If you don’t score here you are not going to win.
Without looking I will bet Colby’s low BABIP against LHP {by the way, it’s not like Skippy’s BABIP is sky high. If anything it is also low} is a direct result of him having a lower LD% and a higher rate of Fly balls and weak ground balls.
dones't Colby have less than 50 ab's vs lefty's too?
anyway, the move didn’t cost the Cards the game, but it does drive me nuts. Colby is the second best hitter on the damn team, and a better all around player than Skippy, he’s just not been doing it as long as Skip has. you can throw every number in the book at me showing Colby should have been PH for over Skip if TLR wanted a RHB in there, but that still makes no sense to me. you don’t take your second best player out of the game in the late innings. and you really don’t take him out just so another player who isn’t half the player he is gets to hit just because he so happens to hit from the opposite side of the plate.
everyone here knows why TLR pulled Colby for T. Greene & not Skip. and it had nothing to do with splits. TLR still feels a player who can play more than one position, MI & OF. is still more valuable than a player who can play just the OF. even if that OF only player is on his way to being a freaking awesome OF. it just so happens Colby is young & TLR has his record of not liking young players. so that’s why i got mad, because he still does stuff like this & i don’t understand it. and the only thing i can come up with that makes sense is A. Colby’s a rook, and B. he only plays the OF. otherwise, i’ll obsess about this, i’ll go even crazier. and no one wants that.

by Power Slurve on Jun 22, 2009 9:55 PM EDT up reply actions
This is my issue with instant replay....
How is this any less damning than a home run? How is it any less important? Either all or nothing I say…and all isn’t feasible.
the issue becomes
the speed of the game. If everything is reviewable they are worried the time of the game may be extended by 30 minutes.
I understand their excuses.....
I just don’t buy them. A blown call at first is just as bad….replay is flawed.
no way to make the right call
from the ground. The ump was just out of position on the play. That’s a bad umpire. On homeruns no matter what your position there are just some you absolutely cannot judge.
I agree.
But then I start thinking Denkinger, and wishing we could send replay back to 85, and then I get depressed.
Course, if the officials are biased enough, the replay doesn’t matter anyway.
Most are too biased to admit they made a mistake
The NFL is evidence of this.

how about
We are 7-3 in our last 10? And history has shown us that we can beat the Mets in a 7 game series.
and...
we were using our #5 pitcher, according to performance, and nearly came away with the win. And Ludstick had a homer. and…

OK, i know i rip on the WWL a lot for how much they suck
and we all know they deserve it. but i’m about to give them some big time props. well not the entire WWL, but one of the SC anchors, John Anderson. dude just dropped an epic line about tonights game. he said, and i’m pretty sure i’m quoting here
Carlos Beltran was put on the DL today, so he wasn’t available to get caught looking at strike 3.
freaking awesome. even his co anchor Steve Levy was cracking up laughing. well done John. well done.

Anyone else ready for the Colonel to not be pitching for St. Louis anymore?

He needs to regain his confidence or take a seat. His lack of fire surely bleeds over to the rest of the team everytime he steps onto the bump.

what? lack of fire?
just because he’s laid back & doesn’t go all apeshit like AL used to on the mound has nothing to do with his performance on the field, or how his teammates play behind him.
his lack of command & his lost velocity on his fast ball are why he’s having problems.

It appears to me like he would rather be anywhere, but pitching. Once he gives up a hit or two it’s like he knows that he can’t get out of it. Walkin’ around with his head down and stuff, what a puss!

If he has no command and no velocity, then why the hell is he still pitching at the major league level? Unless management is just like, “ehh what the hell is one guaranteed loss every 5 games.”

Albert Watch 2009
So, going into tonight’s game, in the last 10 Albert had this line:
33 AB (40 PA)
13 hits (.394 avg)
7 BB – 4 IBB – (.500 OBP)
2 doubles – 8 homers – (1.182 SLG) & (1.682 OPS)
11 runs – 17 RBI
1 steal and 5 K’s.
To add more
In June: an .826 SLG and a 1.221 OPS
Oh yeah, that’s with a .216 BABIP (WELL below league average.)
So far in Interleague play:
.400/.563/1.057/1.620 Yes, you are reading that correctly, I triple checked it.
That’s with a .292 BABIP (still below league average, if I remember correctly.)
His BABIP is so low because he's hit so many HR
