not really

because it sounds like you are suggesting that Tony PH for Cobly because he doesn’t like rookies in pressure situations. Which makes no sense because the pinch hitter is also a rookie.

Did you mean it another way?

by Evilfrog on Jun 22, 2009 10:10 PM EDT up reply actions

yes, i meant that he wouldn't pull Skippy for a RH PH

doesn’t matter who the PH RH is, if TLR’s going to pull a LH batter, it won’t be a vet. we all know it. he wanted his lefty/righty match up even if it meant hurting the clubs chances of winning & he got it.

It kind of sounds like he’s [Duncan] just running around like a puppy out there – full speed ahead in random directions. – BTown Birds Fan

by gdm426 on Jun 22, 2009 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions

alright, lets review the situation

you have two left handed hitters. You have no outs. You need one run. You have the greatest hitter batting 3rd. You need a man on base infront of him.

Your two hitters have the following numbers.

hitter number 1.) .346 OBP and a .304 OBP against LHP
hitter number 2.) .321 OBP and a .220 OBP against LHP

You have 1 Right handed batter on your bench. Who do you PH for?

by Evilfrog on Jun 22, 2009 10:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Taking into account their defense and BABIP against LHP:

#1.

"I usually don’t read other peoples sigs." -Cuttah

by Alxfritz on Jun 22, 2009 11:09 PM EDT up reply actions

first

Defense does enter into because you need offense. If you don’t score here you are not going to win.

Without looking I will bet Colby’s low BABIP against LHP {by the way, it’s not like Skippy’s BABIP is sky high. If anything it is also low} is a direct result of him having a lower LD% and a higher rate of Fly balls and weak ground balls.

by Evilfrog on Jun 22, 2009 11:28 PM EDT up reply actions

dones't Colby have less than 50 ab's vs lefty's too?

anyway, the move didn’t cost the Cards the game, but it does drive me nuts. Colby is the second best hitter on the damn team, and a better all around player than Skippy, he’s just not been doing it as long as Skip has. you can throw every number in the book at me showing Colby should have been PH for over Skip if TLR wanted a RHB in there, but that still makes no sense to me. you don’t take your second best player out of the game in the late innings. and you really don’t take him out just so another player who isn’t half the player he is gets to hit just because he so happens to hit from the opposite side of the plate.

everyone here knows why TLR pulled Colby for T. Greene & not Skip. and it had nothing to do with splits. TLR still feels a player who can play more than one position, MI & OF. is still more valuable than a player who can play just the OF. even if that OF only player is on his way to being a freaking awesome OF. it just so happens Colby is young & TLR has his record of not liking young players. so that’s why i got mad, because he still does stuff like this & i don’t understand it. and the only thing i can come up with that makes sense is A. Colby’s a rook, and B. he only plays the OF. otherwise, i’ll obsess about this, i’ll go even crazier. and no one wants that.

ankiel threw it in front of the runner, but 10 feet up the line

molina caught it and apparently brushed the runner with the tag as Castillo ran by. Ump was not in between Molina and Castillo. If he was standing on the 3rd base line extended he would have seen the contact

This is my issue with instant replay....

How is this any less damning than a home run? How is it any less important? Either all or nothing I say…and all isn’t feasible.

by RiverRat on Jun 22, 2009 9:55 PM EDT reply actions

the issue becomes

the speed of the game. If everything is reviewable they are worried the time of the game may be extended by 30 minutes.

by Evilfrog on Jun 22, 2009 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions

I understand their excuses.....

no way to make the right call

from the ground. The ump was just out of position on the play. That’s a bad umpire. On homeruns no matter what your position there are just some you absolutely cannot judge.

what? lack of fire?

just because he’s laid back & doesn’t go all apeshit like AL used to on the mound has nothing to do with his performance on the field, or how his teammates play behind him.

his lack of command & his lost velocity on his fast ball are why he’s having problems.

So, going into tonight’s game, in the last 10 Albert had this line:

33 AB (40 PA)
13 hits (.394 avg)
7 BB – 4 IBB – (.500 OBP)
2 doubles – 8 homers – (1.182 SLG) & (1.682 OPS)
11 runs – 17 RBI
1 steal and 5 K’s.
