Game 52 Overflow

Rain, Rain, go away.  Come again on a Todd Wellemeyer start day.

If someone could tell the Cardinal batters to use bats instead of their purses to try and hit the ball, it would be much appreciated.

but he’s also played a lot more than Barden, thus more blame…

V, b.

by LukeMP1186 on Jun 2, 2009 10:36 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

well he's not really that good there defensively

hence my thought about about playing him at 2b and getting an actual 3bmen. or as others have suggested let Thursty excel in the supersub role

by kalmavet on Jun 2, 2009 10:36 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

some of it comes from

Thurston starting a LOT more than Barden.

There’s an argument to be made—I don’t know how much I believe it now, although I would have agreed to it readily for most of the rest of the season so far—that if Barden had gotten this much playing time that he’d be OPSing as well or better than Thurston is now.

That’s where some of the Thurston criticism is coming from, I think….

by nota bene on Jun 2, 2009 10:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

and Barden seems to have a better glove

I like Thursty, i just think he does not need to be our starting 3B

* sarcasm might be involved in this comment

by mattyfrommo on Jun 2, 2009 10:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Thurston is OPSing .805

He has essentially replaced Troy Glaus so far. It’s very unlikely that Barden would do any better. The problem is, Thurston is historically not a very good player and doesn’t project to do very well in the future. Most people feel that his season so far is a fluke, and we would be better served to get a “real” third basemen.

This is his first real chance to play ball in his career even though he has dominated AAA for a few years now. Only because he has been stuck behind amazing 2B’s.
