but his numbers look just like the other non-Rasmus outfielders. Defensively he’s a clear upgrade over Duncan, which leaves Ankiel… as one of the three regular starting ofs.

though rasmus has clearly gotten better as the season has gone on (as he’s always done), ludwick is getting back from injury and i expect him to improve. as for duncan, for me that extra 20-25 points of OBP is worth more than giving up the same amount in SLG. obviously, the defense, you’re right about. i just have a lot more confidence based on the circumstances and what i can see that the other 3 will outperform ankiel going forward.

man on second, no out, the run expectancy is 1.189. Man on third, one out, 0.983. So every time that TLR calls for that play and succeeds, he costs the team 1/5 of a run. And of course, the sacrifice doesn’t always work.
It also gives the pitcher a free out on 1-2 pitches.
